Chapter 146: The Birth of a Legend (Third Update)
Chapter 146: The Birth of a Legend (Third Update)
Of course, this might raise a few eyebrows with Dumbledore, but Jerry didn't think it would be that bad. Dumbledore, while he values Harry the most, hasn't shown any particular bias against the young wizards of Slytherin.
As the most renowned wizard of the age, he should have the breadth of vision to handle this.
Even if Dumbledore did have some reservations, Jerry wasn't too concerned. After the Christmas gift-giving incident, Jerry had come to a realization.
Dumbledore's heart belonged to Harry, and there was no point in trying to win his favor. His best support would always be Professor Snape. Only by firmly aligning himself with Professor Snape could he secure more benefits in the future.
Sometimes, he even wondered if he should try to get Dumbledore to retire early and enjoy a peaceful retirement once he was stronger, paving the way for Snape to become the headmaster.
If Snape were to become the headmaster, Jerry would no longer have to hold back in many of his endeavors at Hogwarts.
In the second week after the Gryffindor versus Hufflepuff match, which was about a month into the school year, the Slytherin team faced their second opponent, the Ravenclaw team.
Jerry, once again holding his Nimbus 2000, joined the other members of the Slytherin team on the Quidditch pitch, just as before.
Perhaps because the match against Gryffindor had ended so quickly, many people were skeptical. This time, the stands were even more crowded. They wanted to see if Jerry's success was due to luck or if he truly possessed unparalleled skill.
Even Headmaster Dumbledore, who had not been present before, made an appearance in the stands.
He was accompanied by several adult wizards who were clearly not from the school, one of whom was wielding a magical camera, snapping pictures.
With a roar of applause and the sound of Madam Hooch's whistle, the match officially began.
And then it was over.
The Quidditch match between Slytherin and Ravenclaw was almost identical to the one against Gryffindor.
The game ended as soon as it began. The golden snitch had barely taken flight when it unwillingly found itself caught in Jerry's grasp.
The match was a foregone conclusion, and the players on both sides hardly had a chance to experience the thrill of the game.
Despite this, the enthusiasm in the stands was unusually high. No one was disappointed by the brevity of the match; instead, everyone rose to their feet, clapping and cheering. Some of the young Slytherin girls even screamed themselves hoarse.
"Jerry… Jerry…
Aaaaaah…."
For all the spectators, it felt like they were witnessing the birth of a legend, and this legend was not just a student at their school but was even in the same year, the same house, the same class, or perhaps even a friend.
Perhaps years from now, after they had graduated and entered the workforce, they could proudly tell their colleagues, children, friends, and relatives:
"Know Jerry Carmen? The greatest and most legendary Seeker in the world? I was in the same school as him, and I was there for his early matches. I was a witness to his rise to fame!"
This feeling was similar to a school soccer match where a player suddenly emerges, and every time the ball is passed to him, he scores a goal with absolute certainty.
Even if he were to kick the ball into his own goal.
Such a legend, you know, is destined to become the most legendary and formidable player in the entire World Cup. Even if his matches end as soon as they begin, watching him play will still leave you exhilarated.
This is the situation now.
After the match.
Jerry was planning to slip away from the frenzied crowd, as he felt that if he didn't leave soon, he would be overwhelmed by the excited young wizards.
Just a moment ago, he had been kissed by more than seven upper-year Slytherin seniors, and hugged even more times. Even wizards from other houses had come over.
Sometimes, when the atmosphere is just right, many people lose their rationality and do some rather crazy things.
He could tolerate being kissed on the cheek by the seniors, but when some overexcited older students tried to kiss him, he nearly sent one of them flying with a particle cannon.
To avoid a bloody incident, he took the opportunity to slip away when no one was paying attention, using a disguise charm.
However, just as he had barely slipped out of the Quidditch pitch, he was intercepted by Snape, who had flown down from the stands.
"You did well. Follow me to the headmaster's office!"
"Headmaster's office?"
Hearing that they were going to Dumbledore's office, not Snape's, Jerry was taken aback.
Going to Snape's office was normal, as for some reason, Snape had been treating him better since the start of the school year. Although he still kept a stern, expressionless face, he had been giving Jerry more private lessons in magic.
Jerry even thought that before long, Snape might teach him exclusive spells like the Shadowblade Curse, the Inverted Bell Curse, and the Flight Charm.
While he had already learned the Shadowblade Curse and the Inverted Bell Curse, he was very eager to learn the Flight Charm.
But Snape had said they were going to Dumbledore's office, which left Jerry confused.
Could it be that he had stolen Harry's thunder, making Dumbledore unhappy?
After some thought, Jerry decided that this was highly unlikely. Dumbledore wouldn't be so petty!
Snape's expression was always the same—expressionless. Even if Jerry was his favorite student, he rarely showed any smiles in front of him.
On the way, Jerry asked what had happened, but Snape only replied coolly that it was a good thing and they would know once they got to the office.
Hearing that it was a good thing, Jerry felt a bit more at ease.
They arrived at the Eighth Floor of the castle and walked down a long corridor to a stone gargoyle with closed eyes. Snape said coldly:
"Lemon Sherbet!"
The stone gargoyle immediately opened its eyes and jumped aside, and the wall behind it split into two, revealing a slowly ascending spiral staircase.
As they climbed the stairs, Dumbledore's office came into view.
It was a spacious, beautiful circular room filled with various whimsical sounds. On slender-legged tables, numerous peculiar silver instruments rotated, emitting small puffs of smoke.
The walls were lined with portraits of former headmasters and headmistresses, both men and women, who were lightly snoring in their frames. There was also a large table with clawed feet.
At the table, three people were sitting, and another stood by with a magic camera.
Among the seated, Jerry recognized only Headmaster Dumbledore. The other two middle-aged wizards, who looked to be in their forties, he did not know.
