Chapter 145: Pidgeot Delivery Company
Chapter 145: Pidgeot Delivery Company
Speaking of Belle, Naoki pictured the young girl with her paranoia.
He casually asked, "How is Belle doing lately?"
Elro sighed. "She's still the same. She hides in her room all day, painting, and rarely leaves except for meals."
Naoki nodded. Suddenly, an idea came to mind.
"I might have a possible solution, but I'm not sure if it will work."
"Oh?" Elro asked eagerly. "What is it? Tell me!"
Naoki suggested, "Let your daughter start raising a Pokemon from an egg."
"I think she's not just afraid of Pokemon; she's afraid of the outside world. As you said, her childhood experiences have left her traumatized, making her believe that everything out there is dangerous."
"In this case, we can't rush things. We need to take it slow and start by giving her a Pokemon egg to care for."
"For her, a Pokemon egg won't be as intimidating. It's just an innocent egg."
"As she gradually gets used to the egg, if it hatches into a Pokemon, she might not feel as scared and may even accept the Pokemon that she herself hatched."
Elro listened intently, nodding along, his eyes lighting up. "Why didn't I think of this great idea?!"
Naoki smiled. "It's just a suggestion, but it might help you both."
Elro thought about it carefully and then asked, "In that case, what type of Pokemon egg do you think would be best for Belle?"
Upon hearing this, Naoki pondered for a moment before replying, "First of all, not an Aerodactyl egg, and definitely not one of those huge Pokemon that look intimidating.
"Mhm," Elro agreed. "And then?"
Naoki continued, "Secondly, it should be a Pokemon that's easy to approach and won't randomly spit fire or electricity, like Pikachu. It's a no-go because it'll discharge if provoked."
Elro nodded in agreement.
"Suitable Pokemon..." Naoki thought, and a few types came to mind. He suggested, "Ralts. They're small and humanoid, plus they can sense their trainer's emotions and thoughts with their psychic abilities."
"There's also Vulpix, Pokebi, Sunkern, Slowpoke, and Eevee..."
As he spoke, Naoki suddenly realized that Pokemon like Ralts and Vulpix were rare, and it would be difficult for ordinary people to obtain their eggs.
After a moment's thought, he suggested, "Then how about Eevee?"
Eevee looked harmless, and many people raised them as pets, so their eggs were more accessible.
"Hmm," Elro considered, excitement building in his voice. "I think you're right! Thank you so much for your help, Naoki!"
Naoki smiled, and as he saw Elro preparing to leave, he asked Pidgeot to follow and familiarize itself with the route. That way, they could start delivering milk early the next morning.
Pidgeot nodded in agreement and followed Elro to Cherrygrove City.
Watching them leave, Naoki wondered what he would do if more people from the ranch started ordering milk and Pidgeot couldn't handle the workload alone...
His mind drifted to the group of Pidgeot on Pidgeot Island.
Could he hire them to help with the work?
Naoki thought back to his last visit to the island and the Pidgeot that had wanted to leave with him. He felt this idea could work.
But he'd have to discuss it with Pidgeot first.
Taking advantage of the free time, Naoki went to freshen up, and by the time he returned to the house with his hair still damp, Pidgeot had landed back at the ranch.
Dragonite happily walked over and placed the bundle on the table. Naoki opened it and found a bunch of Berries inside.
He raised an eyebrow. "A gift from Elro?"
"Roar!" Dragonite nodded.
"Alright," Naoki understood that it was probably a token of gratitude for the suggestion he had given.
It wouldn't be appropriate to refuse, so he accepted the gift and set it aside as a snack for his Pokemon.
As evening approached, after delivering the package to Naoki, Dragonite prepared to go outside to admire the fireflies and stars. However, Naoki stopped it.
Dragonite looked confused. "Roar?"
"Dragonite, what do you think of the group of Dragonite on Dragonite Island?" Naoki asked.
Hearing this, Dragonite immediately became alert and suspicious.
It wondered, "What's going on? Does Naoki have his eyes on another Dragonite? That won't do! I'm his Pokemon! One Dragonite is enough!"
Dragonite shook its head vigorously, its expression turning serious as it began to badmouth the other Dragonite. "Roar, roar!"
Naoki: "..."
Although he couldn't understand the words, Naoki could guess the general sentiment of Dragonite's rant.
His Pokemon tended to be quite possessive.
After a moment's thought, Naoki said, "I'm not planning to catch them. I'm thinking of hiring them to help out at the ranch."
Dragonite tilted its head, perplexed. "Roar?"
"Well, I was thinking that if more people start ordering milk from the ranch, you'll be too busy and might get exhausted. That's when we can call on them for help with deliveries."
"And they're probably very unfamiliar with the world outside the island. You can be their leader, show them the world beyond, and lead them to town for deliveries."
Dragonite thought about it carefully, imagining itself as the mighty king of Dragonite, leading a grand fleet of Dragonite across the sky to deliver milk.
The once weakest Dragonite would become the leader of its own kind. The more it thought about it, the more exhilarating it felt.
Seeing Dragonite's softening expression, Naoki quickly asked, "What do you say? Want to give it a try? If they don't perform well, we can just let them go."
"Roar?" Let them go?
"It means they won't deliver milk anymore, and they'll return to Dragonite Island."
"Roar!" That's acceptable!
"So, is it settled then?" Naoki asked.
Dragonite nodded and happily hugged Naoki.
Naoki was truly the best! Worried about it getting exhausted, he wanted to call on other Dragonite for help! Could there be a better trainer in the world?
Dragonite was deeply touched.
Naoki patted its back and laughed. "Alright, let's not rush this. Go have some fun outside!"
This was just a future plan. Currently, with only two people ordering from the ranch, Dragonite could manage the workload.
Moreover, the ranch was still in its developmental stage, and having dozens of Dragonite at this point would bankrupt him.
He wished he could develop a recipe that provided a sense of fullness.
Speaking of recipes, Naoki recalled that in the Pokemon anime, May had once made "May's Poke-Blocks" based on a recipe from Professor Birch.
Those were special energy blocks that could satisfy even the big-bellied Swallow, a Pokemon known for its enormous appetite.
