Chapter 145: Catching Wormtail 2
Chapter 145: Catching Wormtail 2
"Huh?" Fred paused, "Why would we want to check on Ron's dormitory? Mom didn't ask us to tuck him in at night either!"
"Do you know Peter Pettigrew?" Wied asked.
George thought for a moment and asked, "Who's that?"
"Follow me." Wied said.
The group moved to an empty classroom, and Wied spread out the live map, saying, "You can take a look for yourselves."
The twin brothers glanced at each other, and George tapped the parchment with his wand and said, "I solemnly swear that I'm up to no good."
The map's contents were slowly revealed, and the Weasley brothers immediately focused on the Gryffindor common room, carefully examining the tiny letters.
This was something they wouldn't normally pay attention to.
Soon, the two found their younger siblings, Ron and Ginny, in the common room, along with a few familiar names nearby.
Then they moved on to the dormitories.
Neville Longbottom was in the dorm, and so was Peter Pettigrew...
Fred frowned, "Who's this guy? What's he doing in Ron's dorm?"
"Not just in Ron's dorm," Wied added, "At night, their dots were very close together, I think he was in Ron's bed."
The twins' pupils shook, and they stared at each other, unable to speak for a long time.
"Peter Pettigrew... That sounds like a man's name?" George said, his face pale.
"Ha ha... Little Ronnie has a boyfriend?" Fred said dryly.
The two brothers looked at each other, struggling to make their usual jokes.
Of course, they didn't really think that their younger brother had found a boyfriend that no one knew about, sharing a bed every night without anyone ever finding out.
But if they ruled out this absurd possibility... the truth was even more terrifying!
"Let's go and see!"
Fred made a quick decision.
He glanced at the map again, took a deep breath, and headed toward the Gryffindor tower.
"Wait." Wied stopped them and handed over a bottle, "A vial of 'Swamp Water'... We don't know what that guy is capable of, so it's better to be cautious."
George took the vial and gripped it tightly, nodding silently.
Regardless of which house's common room it was, students from other houses were not welcomed. Wied waited near the common room door, keeping an eye on the map to monitor the situation.
Instead of a door knocker that required password answers, the entrance to the Gryffindor common room had a portrait of a fat lady.
She was drunk, and upon hearing Fred speak the password, she opened the door and let the two in.
There were quite a few people in the common room.
Lee Jordan greeted the Weasley twins enthusiastically, but they merely waved at him, looking deeply concerned.
"What's wrong with them?" Lee Jordan asked his friend.
"They might have caught a cold," the other student replied casually, "Look, their ears are smoking!"
Ron was playing Wizard's Chess with his roommate Dean, completely engrossed in the game and unaware of anyone entering.
As they climbed the stairs, Fred whispered, "George, I feel like the name Peter Pettigrew sounds familiar. Do you remember where you might have heard it before?"
George frowned and thought for a moment before shaking his head, "I don't have any impression of that name."
"It must've been a long time ago... I'm sure I heard it from someone." Fred said gravely.
"We can ask once we catch him." George said.
The two found Ron's dormitory, and luckily, the door was unlocked. They pushed it open easily.
Neville was sitting on the carpet, polishing his wand. Hearing the door, he looked up and froze.
"Huh? Did I go to the wrong dormitory?" Ron looked around in a daze.
Yes... This was indeed his bed and his dormitory...
"Want to play Battle Royale this afternoon, Neville?" Fred asked casually, scanning the surroundings. "Let's get Ron and the others from your dorm."
"They might be in the common room. Harry seemed to have gone to the library..." Neville scratched his head and belatedly asked, "Has the rain stopped?"
"It will stop in the afternoon," George replied distractedly.
Noticing that the twins were not even glancing in his direction, Neville felt compelled to add, "Ron isn't in the dormitory."
"Oh, let's take his hero rat. Ron needs it, right?"
As Fred spoke nonchalantly, he lifted the blanket that Ron had bundled up.
A dirty sock fell to the ground.
A gray, sparsely-haired rat curled up in a small nest made of old towels at the head of the bed, fast asleep.
However, when George reached for it, the rat scurried out and perched on the bedhead, its tiny black eyes fixed on the pair.
Fred quickly scanned the area around the bed; apart from this rat, there were no other creatures, not even an extra insect.
His heart sank.
"Come on, Scabbers! We're taking you to the game field to help Ron redeem himself."
Fred's voice was slightly forced.
George, standing behind, quietly loosened the stopper of the Swamp Water vial.
Scabbers, the pet rat, sat foolishly on the bedhead as if he hadn't understood a word they said. Fred suddenly pointed his wand at the rat—
"Petrificus Totalus!"
Bang! The spell hit the wall as Scabbers darted out of the way. George quickly smashed the vial of Swamp Water, but he was a step too slow.
The crystal vial shattered, and just as Neville was about to say something, he caught a whiff of a strange scent.
"Get it!" George shouted.
The rat darted out of the door like lightning.
Neville shook his head, feeling a bit dizzy. When he came to, the room was empty.
The Weasley brothers thumped down the stairs, chanting spells as they went.
But the tiny rat was much more agile than they were, dodging every spell and escaping straight into the common room.
Everyone stared at the Weasley twins in astonishment.
"Smash!"
A spell hit a vase on a cabinet next to the wall, shattering it.
"Fred, George! You're breaking school rules!" Percy shouted angrily. "No wanton use of magic in the common room! I'm deducting points from Gryffindor!"
"Stop babbling and catch that rat!" Fred yelled.
"Rat?" Ron asked, surprised to see his pet Scabbers being chased by his brothers. "What did Scabbers do? Even if he bit your things, he's just a rat!"
Ron reached out to block his brothers, but just then, someone opened the common room door, and Scabbers shot out like an arrow.
"Wait! Stop!"
The Weasleys, who had turned the common room upside down, rushed out one after the other, only to stumble into a mud pit.
Wied poured the life-and-death water down the throat of the unconscious rat and then placed it in a glass jar with a Securing Spell. Only then did he sigh deeply at the sight of the disheveled group.
Harry, who had just opened the common room door with a password, asked in confusion, "What happened?"
