Chapter 145: Black Blade, Black Ship, Black Hammer, Black Man
Chapter 145: Black Blade, Black Ship, Black Hammer, Black Man
Boom!
"Smash the darkness with thunder!"
Beneath the dark and foreboding sky, Ross embraced the raging storm, standing on the deck with his arms wide open and shouting excitedly.
In the sky above, lightning danced like silver snakes, flashing within the clouds, illuminating the sky, and turning the heavens into daylight.
It was already daytime, to begin with.
The enormous waves in the sea mirrored a tsunami, rising like mountains and falling into deep valleys. The fierce wind whipped up, generating raindrops as big as beans, hammering the sails as though they were under constant gunfire. Regular canvas would have certainly been torn apart by now, succumbing to the unforieldess force of the wind and the chaotic rain.
Amid the raging tempest, the Death Harbinger tilted precariously but remained afloat, refusing to succumb to the fury of the storm.
"That's enough!"
Reneetia flung open the door to the captain's room on the second floor and shouted at Ross and the demon clan on the deck, "Stop making a ruckus! Only you fools are causing a commotion. If you have nothing better to do, get inside and out of the rain!"
Ross turned his head, looking past his clan members to Reneetia, and retorted, "Lady Reneetia, we are demons, not fools."
"I don't care what you are! If you keep causing a ruckus out here, I'll make sure you become dead men!" Reneetia shouted, slamming the door shut with a dull thud. She stomped off, her face reddening as she muttered, "These guys are just like Ajin, a bunch of monkeys!"
"I'm not a monkey, Lady Reneetia," Ajin said meekly, raising his hand.
"Shut your mouth! If I say you are, then you are!" Reneetia glared at him.
This violent storm was already irritating enough, and now this bunch of curious onlookers was adding to the chaos with their shouting.
Even Ross, who had been relatively well-behaved until now, had been influenced by his fellow clan members within just a day or two, adopting their wild behavior.
After all, he was only eight years old, and in essence, not much different from the underground demons. Having never witnessed the splendor of the ocean before, he was easily led astray by the presence of his clan members. With his superior physical qualities, the stronger the storm became, the more he shouted and carried on.
Whoosh!
The howling wind sounded like a raging beast as it buffeted the captain's room, creating eerie sounds. Massive waves crashed against the windows, and the height of the swell even reached the deck, sending a surge of water rushing across it.
Fortunately, the demon clan members had heeded Reneetia's words and retreated into the ship's cabin. Otherwise, with such powerful impacts, no matter how many people had fallen into the sea, none of them would have been rescued in these ferocious conditions.
Reneetia's fingers sparked with electricity as she placed her hand on the floor, using her ability to right the ship, which had been tilting dangerously due to the force of the waves. She steered the Death Harbinger forward, facing the towering waves head-on.
"This is quite a storm," Hawkins commented, gazing at the waves that were practically licking the windows. His tone was calm as he added, "The force of nature is indeed awe-inspiring, but rest assured, our journey will not be hindered by any unforeseen events."
"Of course, there won't be any unforeseen events because I'm using my ability! It's me keeping us afloat, you old fraud!" Reneetia snapped irritably.
She had always been short-tempered.
It was just that in front of Sag and the two female executives, she tended to hold back a little. Others, including Hawkins at this moment, had been unfortunate enough to witness her outbursts.
"I am not a fraud," Hawkins replied, his tone as calm as ever, though an additional black line appeared among his perpetually furrowed brows. "And my hair is well-maintained, not like some dry, withered grass."
"Who cares what you are!" Reneetia rolled her eyes.
"Alright, Reneetia, Marika has gone downstairs to prepare some snacks. She'll bring them up soon, so calm down and have something to eat. The rest of you, don't provoke her any further. Ajin, once the rain lets up, go to the ship's cabin and discipline my servants. Make sure they behave."
Seated on his golden throne, Captain Sag smiled and poured himself a drink, unperturbed by the rocking of the captain's room.
Reneetia huffed but said nothing more, using her ability to maintain the ship's course as she walked over to a sofa and sat down.
At that moment, all the high-ranking members were present in the captain's room, except for Marika, who was preparing snacks in the kitchen. Although Ajin felt that he should be in the ship's hold rather than lounging in the captain's room, his status as a high-ranking member entitled him to be there, awaiting Captain Sag's orders.
As they ventured into the spring rainy season of the islands and oceans, the surrounding storm unleashed its fury with uncommon intensity. It was reminiscent of the hurricane they had encountered when they first entered the Grand Line, making it impossible for the crew to maintain control of the ship.
Only the demon clan, with their robust physiques, could withstand the force of the wind on the deck; anyone else would have been blown away.
Thus, with a grand gesture, Sag ordered everyone except the navigators in the control room on the third floor to take shelter in the ship's cabin. Reneetia alone manipulated the Death Harbinger, navigating through the tempest.
Lily stood by Sag's side and estimated the time, saying, "We should arrive at San Popura in about two hours, but..."
"The City of the Spring Queen, San Popura, is a spring island with abundant rainfall."
It's not that the island is stuck in spring forever. Like the other islands, it still experiences the four seasons, but the temperature tends to make each season unique.
Take Summer Island, for example; its winter is exceptionally short, sometimes even imperceptibly so. Conversely, Winter Island can be bitterly cold even when summer and spring arrive.
As for Spring Queen Island, where the City of San Popula is located, it enjoys a mild climate and benefits from the maritime train tracks, which bring a variety of seeds to the island, resulting in abundant produce. Among the ports on the island, San Popula is the most prosperous.
Their plan to rob this place is indeed a sound one.
However, as Lily had guessed, the storm changed as soon as they entered the sea area.
"I've told you, Lily, there's no need to worry," Sag waved his hand and smiled confidently. "This ship will not meet with any mishaps, and as for the City of the Spring Queen, we have nothing to fear. This massive storm will serve as the perfect cover. Even if we start looting, others won't be able to react in time. By the time the Navy realizes we're here, we might have already ransacked Carnival City and made our escape, ho ho ho ho!"
Sag dismissed Lily's concerns about the potential destruction of San Popula with a laugh.
Such a formidable downpour would, at most, result in a violent rainstorm for the city, perhaps causing some minor disasters, but it was far from being able to wreak havoc and destruction.
Lily pursed her lips and, seeing Sag's confident smile, decided to let go of her worries. After all, they were already on their way, and fretting about it now would be of no use. Perhaps she had indeed overthought this.
Whoosh!
Another gigantic wave rushed towards the second-floor captain's room, and within it, a horned sea beast emerged, roaring as it charged towards the window.
If the beast collided directly, not only would the window shatter, but the entire deck building would be punctured. The ensuing gush of water would flood the captain's room.
Upon seeing the sea beast, Ajin's pupils constricted, and he subconsciously wanted to rush forward and block the impact with his body.
Hawkins restrained him with a hand on his shoulder and shook his head. "Don't be hasty. I've told you, today we do not have the omen of death upon us. No accidents will befall us."
Bang!!
The sea beast's horn struck the window glass head-on. Its spiraling horn, capable of easily shattering the glass, was abruptly halted at the glass surface, and the tremendous force caused the ship to tilt outward. However, under Reneetia's dynamic control, the ship righted itself and regained its original position.
The sea beast only struck once before being swept away by the torrential waves. As for the window, a layer of pitch blackness now coated it.
This blackness extended from the window, covering the walls beneath it, the floor, and finally reaching Sag's feet.
"Pay it no mind!" Sag declared as he lifted his gem-encrusted wine glass. "With sufficient strength, these so-called mishaps and misfortunes will be trampled under my feet!"
"Is this what they call 'Haki'?"
Reneetia curiously observed the blackness, which resulted from the Haki. "It's so powerful."
Having mastered Observation Haki, she could now also perceive Armament Haki.
Previously, when Sag had unleashed his Haki to shatter Cone Mountain, its intensity had been too overwhelming for her to process. But now, she could finally observe it.
"Yes, this is Armament Haki," Sag explained. "It can harden and coil itself around one's body and grasped objects, enhancing their offensive and defensive capabilities. With prolonged use, it can even transform objects into the black that is visible to all, just like the tales of the 'Black Blade' on the high seas."
"Oh, oh."
Reneetia nodded thoughtfully. "So, does that mean that if one were to continuously use Haki on a ship, it would become a 'Black Ship'? And a hammer would be a 'Black Hammer'? And a person..."
She hesitated, glancing at Ajin involuntarily.
"I am not a black person, Lady Reneetia," Ajin quickly clarified, raising his hand. "I just have a slightly darker skin tone."
"Don't be ridiculous! If I say you are, then you are!" Reneetia glared at him. "Anyway, there's nothing to fear!"
Seated on his golden throne, Captain Sag smiled and took a sip from his glass, unperturbed by the rocking of the captain's room.
Reneetia huffed but said no more. She continued to use her ability to maintain the ship's course as she walked over to a sofa and sat down.
At that moment, all the high-ranking members were present in the captain's room, with the exception of Marika, who was preparing snacks in the kitchen. Although Ajin felt that he should be in the ship's hold rather than lounging in the captain's room, his status as a high-ranking member entitled him to be there, awaiting Captain Sag's orders.
