Chapter 144: Successful Robbery in the Ruins
Chapter 144: Successful Robbery in the Ruins
Boom!
A thunderous roar disrupted the tranquil sea as dark clouds swiftly veiled the once clear sky, whipping up fierce winds and unleashing a torrential downpour.
"It's raining!"
On the deck, the excited Demon Clan members, who were undergoing basic training, raised their hands toward the sky.
Having already expressed their enthusiasm for swimming in the ocean, the sight of rain only added to their excitement.
Everything in this new world was a source of wonder for them.
The intoxicating liquor, delectable cuisine, and the magical flintlock guns that could fire bullets—all these and more piqued their curiosity, often resulting in exuberant exclamations.
Of course, the loudest voices didn't only belong to the demons.
In the captain's room, Sag, perched on a golden throne, shifted his derriere and then reclined comfortably, "Now, this is what I call a proper seat!"
The golden throne, acquired from the Anu Nation, now adorned the captain's chamber.
Naturally, sitting on pure gold wouldn't be very pleasant, so he had laid a pelt over it.
There was still plenty left from the hide of the bovine beast they had slain previously.
"We already have a bejeweled throne in the banquet hall on the first floor, and now a golden one in the captain's room on the second floor. Next time, we'll grab another for the conference room on the third floor. How about I get each of you a throne as well?"
Sag laughed heartily.
In the captain's room, there were only two others with Sag—two blonde-haired women with voluptuous figures.
One was Lily, who stood by his side, casually sorting through intelligence reports without responding to Sag's comment.
The other was Hawkins, lounging on a sofa and playing cards. He paused briefly upon hearing Sag's question and replied, "It's your call, Captain."
"Next time you say something like that, remember to close the door."
Sag rolled his eyes, "What were you doing in there? Did you summon a Bruais Whitトラgon or something?"
Hawkins was taken aback for a moment, "What's that? If you're talking about abilities, there's still room for development. Perhaps I'll be able to summon something in the future."
"No problem, keep at it."
Sag waved his hand dismissively and then instructed, "Lily, get a bottle of wine from my cabinet—the one called...what's it called?"
Lily promptly retrieved a bottle of wine from the cabinet and answered, "Romanee."
"That's the one."
Sag took the bottle, popped the cork with his thumb, and poured the wine into a gem-studded goblet, "Where's Retty?"
Maryka had gone to prepare some snacks, Sag was aware of that.
However, he hadn't seen Renetia since the morning after they had left the Anu Nation.
"She's in the cabin, working on building a motorcycle and thinking of ways to improve the ship," Lily replied.
The Death Comet was definitely due for some upgrades.
With too many cannons, they were short on crew members to operate them efficiently. Each cannon required a team of three, and even if they didn't man every single one, those on the sides would have to jump back and forth, aiming only in the direction of the enemy ship. Despite this adjustment, they would still need at least four hundred crew members to manage the original three hundred and eighty cannons.
Sag's current crew numbered just over one thousand two hundred, already exceeding the standard limit. If he were to follow the standard crew of one thousand, he would have to assign nearly half of them to cannon duty, which would leave him short-staffed elsewhere.
So, they reduced the number of cannons to two hundred, keeping the main forward and rear cannons unchanged while leaving seventy on each side. This way, about two hundred crew members could manage the cannons effectively.
However, the space left by the removed cannons still needed to be optimized, and that was what Renetia was working on in her free time.
"Let her tinker," Sag chuckled, "She doesn't have any experience building warships, so it's good that she's making adjustments. That way, when we switch ships, she'll be able to design something more in line with the standard specifications."
"Switch ships?"
Hawkins turned curiously, "This ship is great. Do you plan on getting a new one?"
Pirate ships were rarely replaced unless absolutely necessary, as they served as a symbol of the pirate crew.
"What's the plan with the ship, then? I'm not too fussed about it. If a better option comes along, we can make a switch. Old Hawk, a ship is built for sailing; it's people who need the ship, not the other way around." Sag nonchalantly remarked.
He didn't hold the ship in high regard, nor did he care much about the ship spirit.
While it was true that a pirate ship served as a symbol of the crew, even a new ship would retain the old symbols.
Take that idiot, Teach, for example.
Even after he'd made his fortune, he hadn't forgotten to display those wooden boards on either side of his ship.
And as for the Death Comet...
Boom!
Another thunderous clap rang out, the lightning flashing through the windows and illuminating the captain's room for a moment.
It wasn't a storm.
It was Renetia!
With her around, Sag could have any ship he wanted, as long as they had the materials.
And if they ever needed to switch ships in the future, Sag wasn't worried about a blow to morale. With his officers, the core group of Demon Clan members, and the old hands who had followed him since the East Blue, they could set sail at any time.
If he needed more crew...
Well, he could just recruit some.
He could find pirates in Mock Town, and there would be others elsewhere, too.
The bigger his reputation grew, the more elite members he would be able to attract. He had no worries on that front.
"How much longer until we reach Queen City of Spring?" Sag asked, taking a sip of wine.
"We should arrive tomorrow," Lily replied, her expression turning strange as she added, "Sag, I need to remind you that the Queen City of Spring is on a rainy island."
According to the intelligence provided by Donquixote Doflamingo, it rained all year round on that island, and everyone carried umbrellas. Sunny days were few and far between.
"So what?" Sag asked, confused. "It's just rain. What does that have to do with our robbery plans?"
Lily smiled faintly. "I think it might be relevant. Your storm..."
"It's not my storm," Sag interjected, emphasizing, "It's a natural occurrence. I'm just a little unlucky, so the storm happens to follow me around."
"Fine, your bad luck," Lily conceded. "But it might cause some unforeseen problems for us."
Sag smiled confidently. "I'm not concerned about that. With strength, you can overcome anything, Lily."
He turned to Hawkins and asked, "Old Hawk?"
Hawkins shook his head. "I can't make a prediction without encountering something specific. I'm not a prophet, but..."
He shuffled the tarot cards and laid out a few on the table. "The probability of a successful robbery is 99%, and the chance of an accident occurring is currently at 20%. We should be fine."
"See, Lily?" Sag laughed. "My plans never fail. Even if we enter the rainy season islands, the storm won't be able to stop us!"
"I'm not worried about us," Lily said. "It's the Queen City of Spring that concerns me."
She wasn't worried about the plan failing. But given Sag's luck, if even a tropical desert climate could bring about storms, then once they reached the rainy islands...
They might not be in danger, as the Death Comet was sturdy enough.
But the Queen City of Spring was another matter entirely.
Would the robbery succeed?
Of course!
Even in the ruins, they would be successful.
