Chapter 144: Obito vs. Kakashi
Chapter 144: Obito vs. Kakashi
"From now on, you need to engage in more battles to better understand the Breath Technique."
"Battles, huh? Ugh, I guess that means dealing with Kakashi, doesn't it?" Obito sighed, recalling Mu Yue's words.
Although Might Guy was close to his level, and Itachi could easily suppress him, both of them were currently occupied with their own Breath Technique training and didn't have time to spar with him, the fastest progressing student.
Obito could only think of Kakashi. He certainly couldn't challenge Asuma; with his current strength, it would be too easy if he didn't use the Breath Technique, but fighting without it wouldn't help his progress with the technique. That was a problem.
In the end, Obito realized Kakashi was his only option.
Kakashi's abilities were decent enough to warrant using the Breath Technique against him, and Kakashi didn't seem particularly busy lately.
Most importantly, Obito felt that he could now give Kakashi a run for his money. After all, he had managed to achieve a level of concentration with the Breath Technique that allowed him to focus and refocus.
If he hadn't felt that there was still some instability in his control, Obito would have called upon Hanabi Hyuga to witness his triumph over Kakashi and show her who the true genius of Konoha was.
With these thoughts, Obito couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"What are you doing, laughing creepily by yourself in front of my house?" Kakashi, drawn by the sound, appeared and asked, seeing Obito standing there.
"Where's the creepiness? This is the joyous laughter of anticipating victory!" Obito realized he had unknowingly walked to Kakashi's doorstep.
"So, you're here to challenge me?" Kakashi inquired.
"Yes," Obito nodded. "Kakashi, prepare for defeat. Just the other day, I ranked first in the Ninja Academy for the year!"
"Is that something to brag about? I got tired of that title years ago." Kakashi replied nonchalantly.
"Right, Obito, how many times have you come first? Surely not just once. I seem to recall being at the top of the class right up until graduation."
"Well, it doesn't matter how many times. The fact is, I've matched your achievement now." Obito gave up trying to outdo Kakashi in terms of academic accomplishments.
"With such confidence, I thought you might have already graduated and become a ninja. After all, we're the same age, yet I've been a Chunin for years." Kakashi continued.
Obito: ...
So what if he graduated at five and became a Chunin at six? There was no need to brag about it. What good did graduating early do? If he had graduated earlier, he wouldn't have met Teacher Mu Yue. Obito resorted to self-comfort.
"Kakashi, enough chatter. Let's get this battle started," said Obito, feeling that if Kakashi continued talking, it might affect his performance.
"Very well, let's begin. It won't take long to deal with you anyway," Kakashi said, leading Obito to his usual training spot.
"Argh, you'll pay for underestimating me!" Obito's anger surged, and he resolved to teach Kakashi a lesson.
Although only three months had passed, he was no longer the same Obito Uchiha who could be instantly defeated by a Body Flicker Technique.
Now, with his mastery of the Lightning Blade, his learning of the Fire Style: Breath Technique, and his acquisition of the Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu and Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson, his strength was on a whole new level compared to before.
"Begin," Kakashi said calmly.
He truly didn't take Obito's challenge seriously. If it had been Guy, he might have shown a bit more interest, as a previous encounter had revealed Guy's significant improvement in strength.
Whoosh! Obito's body disappeared from the spot and reappeared, throwing a punch aimed directly at Kakashi's abdomen.
Kakashi's pupils constricted as he was taken aback by Obito's unexpected speed. Caught off guard, Kakashi could only manage to quickly block the punch, causing him to be knocked back by more than two meters.
"Such strength and speed." Kakashi's gaze toward Obito changed.
If not for his rich battle experience, he might have truly been struck by Obito.
Kakashi no longer underestimated Obito. He swiftly drew a shuriken from his ninja tool pouch and threw it at Obito.
Obito directly used the Body Flicker Technique to dodge the shuriken and charged at Kakashi once more.
This time, Kakashi was prepared. As Obito rushed forward, he was about to be hit in the face by Kakashi's punch.
Kakashi's excellent offensive rhythm instantly turned the tables, forcing Obito to retreat step by step, his body covered in dust.
"Damn it, is Kakashi's taijutsu even stronger than Guy's?" Obito felt frustrated as he was beaten down.
Previously, when he opened his Breath Technique, he could go head-to-head with Might Guy, but now he was being suppressed by Kakashi, feeling unable to unleash his full strength.
Bang! Obito was seized upon by Kakashi, who landed a punch and a kick, sending him falling to the ground.
Obito quickly created distance, no longer wanting to match Kakashi in close-quarters combat. He formed hand seals and performed a Fire Style ninjutsu.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
Obito unleashed his chakra, spewing a four-meter-high giant fireball toward Kakashi.
"Earth Style: Earth Flow Wall!" Kakashi calmly formed hand seals, summoning a massive wall of earth in front of him.
Boom! The fireball smashed into the solid earth wall but failed to destroy it completely. Seeing the ruined dog head on the wall, Obito felt annoyed.
He had intended to force Kakashi to dodge and then seize the opportunity to rush in with his All-Concentration Breath and launch a surprise attack. However, Kakashi directly countered with a defensive ninjutsu.
"Breath of Fire, All-Concentration Breath!" Obito decided to give Kakashi another taste of the power of the Breath Technique. The speed and strength he displayed earlier were not his limit.
Obito leaped onto the wall and found Kakashi standing right there. With the enhancement of the Breath Technique, Obito performed a nature transformation as he charged toward Kakashi, his palm erupting with flames aimed at his opponent.
Seeing Obito's fierce approach, Kakashi swiftly sidestepped, creating a small gap between them, causing Obito's flames to miss.
Witnessing Kakashi's cautious movements, a thought flashed through Obito's mind, and he prepared to attempt a one-handed seal to release a ninjutsu, something he had not successfully done before.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson!"
Obito swiftly drew three kunai and placed his left hand behind his back to form seals discreetly. He then threw the kunai at Kakashi. Although only two of the three kunai were imbued with flames, it was still a success.
As Obito threw the kunai, Kakashi also threw two kunai at him.
Obito sidestepped, dodging Kakashi's kunai, and laughed heartily. "These aren't ordinary kunai; they explode! Let's see how you dodge this, Kakashi!"
Boom! The distance was too close, and although Kakashi successfully dodged the kunai, they exploded right beside him.
"I win!" Obito thought with delight.
This degree of power wouldn't cause Kakashi severe injury, but the subsequent battle would surely be uncomfortable for him.
