Chapter 144: Milk Delivery with a Surprise Guest
Chapter 144: Milk Delivery with a Surprise Guest
At 4:30 in the afternoon, the chicken soup was ready.
Naoki lifted the lid off the earthenware pot, and a rich aroma of chicken filled the air, mingling with the fragrant scent of wild mushrooms.
Bubbles burbled in the broth within the pot, a layer of shimmering oil floating on the surface. The chicken and mushrooms were plump and glossy, soaked through with the delicious soup.
[Braised Chicken and Mushrooms (A)
: A dish made by stewing freshly picked wild mushrooms with three-yellow chickens. The soup is delicious and loved by some Pokemon.
Dish Effect: Glossy Coat lv3. After eating, a Pokemon's fur will become sleek and glossy, reducing shedding, and maximizing health.
Evaluation: The perfect dish for autumn!]
Glossy Coat?
"It seems to only be effective for furry Pokemon," Naoki thought. "Not bad. It'll be perfect for the Furret and Eevee at the ranch."
Other breeders had to go to great lengths, feeding their Pokemon countless energy blocks to achieve this effect, but now it seemed that a single dish of braised chicken and mushrooms would do the trick.
Naoki picked up a piece of chicken and savored it.
The meat was tender and flavorful, firm yet juicy, infused with the aroma of wild mushrooms. It was perfect.
Golurk, who had been napping in the sun outside, suddenly twitched its nose as it caught a whiff of the enticing scent.
"Agas!"
Golurk immediately straightened up, and the nearby Salamence and Rhyperior also caught the scent, their eyes lighting up as they floated towards the house, unable to resist.
Hearing the commotion behind him, Naoki turned off the stove and carefully placed the hot earthenware pot on a small dining table using a pair of heat-resistant gloves.
"Be careful, it's hot!" he reminded the Pokemon.
The pot was indeed scorching, and since none of the Pokemon were adept at using utensils, they could only stare longingly at the food.
Naoki thought for a moment, then brought out several small bowls from the kitchen and began serving the chicken into them.
The Frosmoth, Eldegoss, and Solrock didn't seem interested in the smell, so they took a few glances before continuing their play outside.
The Glaceon and Sandshrew, however, looked like they were in culinary heaven, as evidenced by the drool dripping from their mouths.
For instance, the Glaceon was eyeing the steaming piece of chicken in front of it, wanting to use its claws to pull the meat closer, but it scalded its paw in the process.
After a moment's thought, the Glaceon blew a gust of cold air at the meat, quickly cooling it down before popping it into its mouth.
The other Pokemon, witnessing this, turned their gazes towards the Glaceon.
"Buui?!" The Glaceon's heart skipped a beat as it realized it had become the center of attention.
Rhyperior looked down at the meat in front of him, then at the Glaceon's now-empty bowl.
"Gaora..."
"Buui."
The Glaceon turned its head, blew a puff of cold air at the meat, and Rhyperior happily dug in.
The rest of the Pokemon quickly caught on, and the Glaceon found itself blowing cool air onto their food while sneaking bites in between.
Naoki smiled warmly at the sight of the Pokemon interacting so amicably.
He turned to the Sandshrew, who was enjoying its meal, and asked, "How is it?"
"Ba'mo~" The Sandshrew nodded vigorously.
Naoki teased, "What if I wanted to use those chickens for other dishes in the future?"
"Ba'mo?!"
The Sandshrew paused, blinking as it considered this dilemma. Its expression was one of sheer conflict.
These past few days, it had been spending time with the flock of chickens, unable to communicate with them but feeling a sense of accomplishment as it watched the fluffy chicks grow into full-fledged chickens.
But the chicken meat was just so delicious.
Torn between its affection for the chickens and its love for the tasty meat, the Sandshrew didn't know what to choose.
It even felt that whenever it saw those chickens from now on, it would be reminded of the delectable flavor of today's meal.
"Ba'mo..."
Seeing its dilemma, Naoki smiled and said, "Don't worry, I won't use them for cooking."
After all, they were just a few ordinary chickens. If Bulbasaur wanted to keep them, he could let it, and he didn't mind the expense.
Naoki sat down and began eating, placing pieces of meat into the bowls in front of the Pokemon.
He had cooked several chickens, and they were devoured in no time.
After the meal, Golurk, Moto Lizard, and the other Pokemon went outside, lying contentedly on the grass.
Watching them, Naoki felt like he could even skip making dinner for the night.
It was a good opportunity for him to rest.
After he finished washing the dishes, evening fell.
Zack arrived in his large truck to collect the goods. Naoki chatted with him while helping load the buckets of milk and a large bag of rock salt onto the truck.
"Hey, did you hear about the cave-in that happened in Azalia Town?" Zack asked.
Naoki was surprised. "A cave-in? What happened?"
Zack explained, "Apparently, a construction team accidentally disturbed a wild Banette that was dwelling in the mountains. It flew into a rage and caused several mine tunnels to collapse! Fortunately, it happened at night, so while several miners were injured, there were no fatalities."
Banette, known as the Sandstorm Monarch, was a powerful pseudo-legendary Pokemon native to the Johto region.
Naoki's collector's instinct kicked in. "Is it still there?"
"I don't know," Zack shook his head. "It probably left after causing all that chaos. But the tremors it created exposed ancient ruins underground! Many adventurers have heard the news and are heading there to explore, hoping to find legendary ancient treasures."
Ancient ruins... ancient treasures...
Naoki tried to recall but couldn't think of any well-known ruins in the Hoenn region.
As for ancient treasures, he guessed they were referring to the Celebrating Armor and Cursed Armor, special items that allowed Charmeleon to evolve into Red Lotus Knight and Blue Flame Edge.
"Alright, I won't keep you. I still have to collect goods from other ranches. See you later!" Zack waved and returned to his truck, driving off with the load of goods.
With all the day's tasks completed, Naoki took a deep breath and felt a sense of relief. He planned to take a shower and then relax by watching some TV before heading to bed.
Just then, another guest arrived at the ranch.
Hearing the voice, Naoki turned and saw the seed shop owner, Elro.
He was surprised to see him. "Mr. Elro? What brings you here?"
Elro explained, "I heard that the sheep milk sold in town is produced here, but it's so popular that it's hard to get my hands on it. So, I was wondering if I could purchase it directly from you..."
"Of course!" Naoki called out to Aerodactyl and conveyed the request.
Aerodactyl proudly puffed out its chest and assured, "Roar!"
"Leave it to me!" Naoki patted its head.
Elro expressed his gratitude. "Thank you so much."
Naoki waved it off. "Don't mention it. We're neighbors, after all! And you gave me a bag of fertilizer, too."
Seeing Naoki's generosity, Elro smiled. He thought back to that day and sincerely thanked Naoki again.
"If it weren't for you, I would still be forcing Abi to do something she doesn't like."
