Chapter 144: Kusnake Town is Also Kusnake
Chapter 144: Kusnake Town is Also Kusnake
Kuro continued flying through the skies aboard the Treasure Eternal Companion.
He had lost track of time, but after witnessing two sunrises and sunsets, he figured two days had passed.
Gazing at the azure sky, Kuro noted that while the past two days hadn't been purely clear—there had been storms and lightning—they were all blocked by the air bubble.
Lying on the air bubble, he reached for a cigar, only to pat his pockets and realize he was out.
"Cursed Capone Bege, acting all high-and-mighty yet brought so few cigars, and they're even hard to smoke", Kuro muttered under his breath before staring blankly at the sky. A while later, his voice echoed through the air.
"Man, this is boring."
He'd been flying for two days. He could have broken through anytime, but didn't. The sheer boredom had driven him to contemplate life, which led to recalling certain things.
Luffy had been slapped away to Amazon Lily, and Kuro remembered stepping into Luffy's spot at that moment. According to the original plan, he should have been sent to Amazon Lily by Xiong.
Amazon Lily!
The legendary nation of women.
An entire island of women!
And every one of them had a snake.
A snake!
Coiled around those cute, curvaceous figures...
Just imagining it was thrilling!
But best of all, it was home to Boa Hancock, the Snake Princess known as the World's Greatest Beauty!
Who wouldn't admire beauty? Could someone who ignored beauty even be called decent?
Despicable!
Kuro wasn't despicable—he wanted to see.
So even though he was getting hungry, he endured, determined to catch a glimpse of Amazon Lily, that mysterious land of women.
Not for any other reason—just to see.
Truly!
With these thoughts, Kuro kept flying inside the air bubble, waiting for another sunrise and sunset before finally reaching the Grand Line.
As the air bubble neared the ocean surface, Kuro jolted upright, unsheathing his sword to slash the bubble apart. He hovered above the water.
Floating on the sea surface, his expression soured.
Good thing I have my Float-Float ability, or I'd have plunged right in.
Wait, without a Devil Fruit, falling into water wouldn't matter anyway.
Glancing around, he saw nothing but open ocean. Tilting his head, he muttered, "Where's Amazon Lily?"
Rubbing his chin, he mused, "Could it be my physique differs from Luffy's, so I only reached the ocean surface?"
Rising slowly, he hovered higher until finally spotting an island's silhouette.
Eyes lighting up, Kuro dove toward it.
Amazon Lily, here I come!
As the island drew closer, its features emerged. Jagged rocks and countless mountain peaks lined the edges, with a lush grassland at the center. A river wound through the land, leading to a small town marked by a stone gate functioning as a signboard bearing the words "Kusnake" at its peak.
At the sight of the name, Kuro's face lit with excitement. He swooped low, descending from the sky to the gates, only to freeze in confusion.
An elderly man leaning on a crutch, trembling as he walked, was being supported by a young girl.
They spotted Kuro's landing, their expressions shifting to shock.
"He flew... flew here!" the girl stammered.
Kuro was equally stunned—the elderly man was a man?
And this place seemed... too rundown.
Scanning the area, he asked hesitantly, "Is this Kusnake?"
The girl nodded reflexively. "Yes, this is Kusnake."
Kuro: "Kusnake Island?"
Girl: "Kusnake Town."
Kuro: "...Huh?"
So I wasn't sent to Kusnake Island after all?
Come to think of it, did Kuma add extra force when slapping me away, just to make sure?
"Whatever, Kusnake Town is still Kusnake. I can still brag to Klah about being slapped to Kusnake later."
Kuro muttered sourly, "Besides, I'm faceblind anyway. I wouldn't know if the women are beautiful or not."
At least I escaped from the Summit War. Where I ended up hardly matters after being slapped away.
"Gurgle—"
His stomach growled loudly.
Rubbing his belly, Kuro turned to the girl. "Hey, could I trouble you for a meal? I'll pay later."
His stomach growled loudly.
Rubbing his belly, Kuro turned to the girl. "Hey, could I trouble you for a meal? I'll pay later."
"Navy?!"
The elderly man suddenly shrieked, his voice so loud the entire town seemed to hear.
Dropping his crutch, he grabbed the girl and bolted toward the town, his speed defying his earlier frailty.
Immediately, the town echoed with clattering noises.
Doors flew open one by one, revealing crowds armed with weapons—blades, firearms, all aimed at Kuro with tense stares.
What's going on?
Kuro glanced at his Navy-marked hooded cloak. Right, Navy uniforms were despised here.
The crowd encircled Kuro, half-surrounding him.
A burly man with a pistol snarled, "Damn it, why is the Navy here now?!"
"Did they arrest Ace and still want to invade our territory?!"
"Despicable Navy—think you can kill us now?! Unforgivable!!"
"Kill him, he's alone!"
"Right, take him down!"
Their faces twisted with fury.
Then Kuro noticed something else—the houses bore flags.
A skull with a crescent mustache—Whitebeard's mark!
"This is Whitebeard's territory!"
Kuro turned to leave without hesitation.
"Sorry for the disturbance, goodbye."
Damn it! Why did Bear send me to Whitebeard's territory?!
He grimaced.
At least no pirates seemed present here—he could retreat now.
"Screech!!!"
The sky suddenly erupted with an eerie screech.
A massive shadow engulfed the entire town.
"It's 'Sylla'!!!"
"Sylla's here!"
"Seek shelter! I knew today was a bad day to go out!"
Kuro looked up, eyes widening as cold sweat dripped from his forehead.
"This thing..."
A monstrous bird the size of a skyscraper blotted out the sun, its metallic-plated body gleaming green. Its parrot-like head bore a gaping maw filled with serrated teeth, and its barbed tongue writhed inside.
Most terrifying was its overwhelming life aura.
Whitebeard's territory lay in the New World.
Monsters of the New World...
Damn you Xiong!
