Chapter 144: Is This Formula... Stolen?
Chapter 144: Is This Formula... Stolen?
While the two were discussing, Sunny couldn't help but interject.
"I heard that the injured Aurors are planning to protest to the Ministry. They say if the Ministry doesn't provide them with Protective Items, they won't take on such dangerous missions anymore."
"Then you can persuade your Head of the Auror Office to buy more items", Ivan said with a smile.
Sunny stuck out her tongue; she didn't have the courage to do so.
At this moment, Ellison quietly pulled Ivan aside, showing him the dim Protective Ring on his right hand and asked in a low voice.
"Can a Protective Ring be repaired if it's broken?"
So soon? Ivan was quite puzzled. When he made the Protective Rings, he used relatively inexpensive materials, but they were expected to last at least a year or two. Unless they were used repeatedly in a short time, causing significant wear and tear.
"Aren't you a new Auror? How often do you fight?" Ivan asked.
Ellison gave a sheepish smile and then proudly recounted his experiences. Thanks to the Protective Ring and Spell-Proof Gloves, he had been extremely brave in battle recently, willing to stand out and draw fire. He had received unanimous recognition from other Aurors, and even the Head of the Auror Office praised him in a meeting!
"I think if I keep this up, I'll pass the Enforcer review in no time", Ellison said with enthusiasm.
Ivan's lips twitched. He felt that if Ellison kept this up, he might not live to become an Enforcer.
Moreover, if Ivan remembered correctly, Ellison was quite timid the last time he came. Could it be that someone had talked him into it?
"Of course, a Protective Ring can be repaired, but it's not free. It costs thirty Galleons each time", Ivan said after some thought. Originally, he had planned to refuse the repair request, as this would help increase the sales of the rings. But after careful consideration, he decided against it. Seventy Galleons wasn't a small amount, and if the ring broke and couldn't be repaired, the other party might not be willing to buy a second one. So it was better to charge a bit for after-sales service.
"Thirty Galleons is so expensive?" Ellison was quite depressed. He didn't have that much money; he had even bought the Protective Ring on an installment plan.
"Isn't this a work-related expense? Can't you apply to the Ministry for reimbursement?" Ivan looked at the newly appointed Auror, wondering why the cost of repairs mattered to him.
"Is that possible?" Ellison was taken aback, then suddenly realized he hadn't thought of that before.
Relieved, Ellison then quietly asked if he could wear multiple Protective Rings at the same time. After all, in addition to the one he bought himself, the Ministry would likely issue him another one if he became an elite Enforcer or an Auror captain.
Ivan realized that this guy hadn't changed at all; he was still as timid as ever. Wearing multiple magic items was certainly possible, but the enhancement wasn't as significant as Ellison imagined. Otherwise, Ivan would have equipped himself with ten rings, one on each finger.
In the afternoon, after the Ministry's Aurors left, Ivan hadn't even had time to rest when Douglas rushed over.
"I've got it, I finally figured it out. We can use Asphodel and Sage to suppress the aggressive factors in Werewolf Blood. If we start from here, we can produce the final product in no more than six months."
Douglas explained to Ivan with great urgency, unable to contain his excitement.
Last night, he had started analyzing the components of Werewolf Blood and made a significant discovery. Recalling the herbs Ivan had mentioned earlier, he tried them one by one and felt that the major difficulties in researching the Wolfsbane Potion had been largely resolved.
The remaining task was to determine the correct proportions of the Potion ingredients and conduct repeated experiments with Werewolf wizards.
At this thought, Douglas felt a sense of pride, as it meant the Order of Merlin was within his grasp.
"Oh, I see." Ivan replied indifferently.
Ivan's calm attitude puzzled Douglas. Just as he was about to ask, he saw Ivan take a brown Potion-filled vial from his wizard robe pocket and place it on the table.
"What is this?" Douglas's expression changed.
He had some suspicions, but he shook his head, thinking it was unlikely.
"This is the Wolfsbane Potion", Ivan said at that moment.
"Wolfsbane Potion?!" Douglas stared at the brown Potion on the table, dumbfounded.
"You've already made a finished product and are ready to start testing it?"
Douglas could hardly believe his eyes, but he soon considered another possibility. He looked around and lowered his voice.
"Did you steal the Potion formula from your Potions professor, Snape, while you were at school?"
"How could I? The Wolfsbane Potion is something I just researched, last night", Ivan rolled his eyes. Douglas's imagination was really something.
Douglas realized he had spoken out of turn and gave a sheepish smile.
He was right; if Snape had already figured out the formula for the Wolfsbane Potion, he would have published it long ago. Why wait until now?
Understanding this, Douglas felt a bit depressed. He had spent the whole night researching and analyzing, only to find that Ivan had already produced the finished Potion when he was about to share his good news.
Ivan watched as Douglas's excitement turned to disappointment and tried to reassure him, explaining that he had started researching this topic while at school and had received some help from his professors.
Douglas finally felt relieved. Even a genius couldn't produce a finished Potion in just one night.
After a bit of persuasion, Ivan dispelled Douglas's doubts and took the Wolfsbane Potion he had made the previous night to the Werewolf wizards' base.
Walking down the dilapidated street, Walker jumped down from a tree and asked curiously.
"Ivan? Why are you here today? Didn't you say you wouldn't need more Werewolf Blood for a while?"
Ivan looked up and was surprised to see that although Walker's face was still pale, it had regained some color compared to yesterday. He couldn't help but marvel at the Werewolf wizards' excellent recovery abilities.
"Right, so we're here to test the Potion today!" Ivan took the Wolfsbane Potion out of his wizard robe pocket. The deep brown liquid shimmered in the sunlight.
"You made it so quickly?" Walker was surprised. He hadn't expected Ivan to produce results so soon after mentioning it yesterday.
Did he just mix the Potion randomly?
Walker looked at the Wolfsbane Potion in Ivan's hand, swallowed hard, and began to doubt whether he had agreed too quickly.
