Chapter 144: Hogwarts' New Rap
Chapter 144: Hogwarts' New Rap
Kyle and Professor Sprout walked through the entrance hall, climbed the marble staircase, and proceeded down a corridor.
Professor Sprout's office was not particularly large, but it was filled with the earthy fragrance of soil. A warm fire crackled in the fireplace, and lush vines crawled up the walls, alongside various magical plants, making it look identical to the greenhouses outside the castle.
Near the window stood a small desk.
Professor Sprout approached the desk and pointed to a brown box on top of it.
"I received this package two days before the start of school. It was sent by the Ministry of Magic Enforcement Division, along with a letter stating that it was compensation for the loss in the Forbidden Forest."
As she spoke, Professor Sprout's expression suddenly turned peculiar.
"But I recall that Minerva didn't ask for any compensation from the Ministry, so these must be for you."
"Cough, yes, Professor."
Kyle replied somewhat embarrassed, "I did write a letter to the Ministry, but it was at the request of the Beaters.
They seemed to know that I used some valuable magical items in the Forbidden Forest and barely survived at the hands of Auren. So, they generously decided to compensate me."
"I see," Professor Sprout said with a smile.
"But the letter also mentioned that they would soon send someone to build a new greenhouse for Hogwarts. Was that your request too?"
"Um... no, that wasn't me."
Kyle thought for a moment and said, "I only mentioned in the letter that too much dark magic had been cast in the Forbidden Forest, damaging many precious magical plants and centuries-old trees.
They probably wanted to compensate the school in this way."
Professor Sprout's expression became even more peculiar. Her face turned slightly red, and she unconsciously glanced out the window.
She knew the plants in the Forbidden Forest better than anyone.
Most of the rare and precious plants had already been moved to the greenhouses by her, leaving behind only common varieties like white ash or bubble bean pods.
As for the so-called century-old trees... to be honest, after the Beaters left, it took her and Filius just five minutes to restore the damaged forest to its original state.
After all, the Corrosion Charm wasn't exactly advanced dark magic; a simple Omnifinishing Charm could easily fix it.
Professor Sprout cleared her throat and spoke with conviction, "Yes, it's a pity about those plants. It's thoughtful of the Ministry to consider building a new greenhouse to protect them."
She seemed pleased and continued in a light tone, "Well, you can count their compensation here and see if anything is missing.
But remember to be quick; I believe the Sorting Ceremony should be starting soon."
After saying this, Professor Sprout left the office, closing the door behind her.
Once she was gone, Kyle approached the desk and opened the box.
There wasn't much inside; half of it was neatly stacked Galleons, around fifty in total, with the word "Broomstick" written beside them.
Kyle had indeed thrown a broomstick in the Forbidden Forest, which was later smashed into two pieces by a falling tree during the battle, rendering it completely useless.
The Ministry officials probably couldn't find such an old model, so they decided to compensate with money instead.
Kyle set the Galleons aside.
The broomstick belonged to the school, so these Galleons had nothing to do with him. The remaining items were the real focus.
After removing the Galleons, the box was left with only five tightly sealed glass bottles. Inside were seeds—seeds of magical plants. The names of the plants were written on the bottles: "Mandrake," "Mandragora," "Angelica," "Venomous Tentacle," and "Venomous Snapdragon."
Kael picked up the bottles and carefully placed them in his Transfigured Lizard Skin Bag. He felt relieved, as he had reported these as "lost plants" to make the situation more plausible, which was why the Ministry of Magic had sent the package to Hogwarts. After all, almost all these plants were classified as "extremely dangerous," especially the Mandrake and Venomous Tentacle, which were prohibited from trade, and the Ministry strictly forbade private cultivation and sale.
To be honest, Kael had been unsure about this beforehand. It was a gamble, hoping that the professor who received the package wouldn't open it. If they did, these seeds would have to be planted in a newly built greenhouse.
Fortunately, Kael had good luck. Professor Sprout was only interested in the plants in the greenhouse and didn't pay much attention to other things.
After putting away the bottles, Kael breathed a deep sigh of relief.

He was truly grateful that the Ministry had packaged everything so securely.
To obtain seeds from under the nose of a Master of Plants was indeed thrilling.
After leaving Professor Sprout's office, Kael descended the stairs and returned to the Great Hall. The new students had arrived, and the Great Hall was now a sea of pointed black hats, with students filling every long house table.
In front of the guest table was the old and tattered Sorting Hat, which now had some additional items compared to the previous year. A red and blue striped cloth, possibly a tea towel or a headscarf, was wrapped around the tip of the hat, and a small pair of sunglasses had been added to the brim.
When Kael arrived at the Great Hall, the Sorting Hat was just finishing its song. It seemed excited, twisting and turning on its three-legged stool, and the tune it used was completely different from traditional magical music.
"...
Hogwarts truly is a school where the magic taught is wondrous and unique.
Gryffindor's hearts are bold, with courage and spirit, unafraid of hardship and danger.
Hufflepuff's are honest, enduring hard work and toil, their students are resilient and true.
Ravenclaw's are clever, seeking secrets in books, exploring magic's mysteries.
Perhaps you'll be in Slytherin, they're cunning and precise, pursuing glory's path without a trace of mercy.
Come, take me on, don't be afraid.
And one more thing, my name is the Sorting Hat."
As soon as the Sorting Hat finished its song, the Great Hall erupted in cheers, the young wizards' applause echoing as if they were about to lift the ceiling.
Kael turned to the other side and walked towards the Hufflepuff table.
Cedric had saved him a seat between himself and Michael.
"Kael, you should have come earlier," Cedric said regretfully, "The Sorting Hat's song was completely different from previous years."
"Yeah, I heard it just now," Kael replied with a smile.
It seemed the Sorting Hat had received the Christmas gift he sent last year.
He didn't expect that Hogwarts could even play those tapes.
