Chapter 143: This Galleon, Worth Every Penny!
Chapter 143: This Galleon, Worth Every Penny!
“So, why did you ask about the Werewolf wizards earlier?” Douglas asked with a teasing tone.
Ivan rolled his eyes. He had only asked because he noticed how poor and desperate the Werewolf wizards were, and he was considering whether he could hire them to gather information about Knockturn Alley.
When the Ministry of Magic investigated his shop, Ivan realized just how isolated he was from the flow of information.
All the intelligence he had either came from System missions or from Aisia and Douglas.
In a dangerous place like Knockturn Alley, having no sources of information was unacceptable.
That's why Ivan had his eye on the Werewolves.
Moreover, during the revitalization mission, there was a clear hint to be wary of those who had escaped the Ministry of Magic's pursuit, which made Ivan even more cautious.
However, Ivan didn't explain his thoughts, fearing that if he mentioned them, Douglas might misinterpret them in some way.
Ivan's silence only confirmed Douglas' suspicions. Feeling a mix of emotions, Douglas became even more determined to help Ivan with the Wolfsbane Potion.
He decided to devote all his efforts to helping Ivan develop the Potion within a year.
As he left, Douglas took two vials of Werewolf Blood, planning to study them thoroughly.
Ivan didn't try to stop him and let him take the two vials of blood.
Back home, Ivan eagerly began preparing the Wolfsbane Potion. He had already gathered all the ingredients except for the Werewolf Blood.
Asphodel, fig bark, and Sage roots.
After processing the various Potion ingredients, Ivan added them to the beaker, along with a small amount of Werewolf Blood, and stirred carefully. The Potion in the beaker immediately began to boil, bubbling furiously.
Soon, the Potion in the beaker erupted like lava from a volcano.
This indicated that the Potion had failed!
Fortunately, the beaker didn't explode. Ivan quickly reacted, avoiding injury.
"Scourgify!" Ivan waved his Wand to clean up the mess.
The spilled Potion residue and waste materials were gathered by his magic and thrown into the trash bin.
"Hmm, it's probably because I didn't add enough powdered moonstone as a binding agent. I'll add a bit more this time!" After cleaning up, Ivan thought about his mistake and prepared another set of ingredients for the Wolfsbane Potion.
One failure didn't shake Ivan's resolve.
He knew that the Wolfsbane Potion was difficult to prepare. Among the Potion ingredients, besides mild ones like Asphodel and powdered moonstone, there were many conflicting materials. A slight mistake during the brewing process could lead to failure.
However, looking at his nearly fifth-level Potions skill, Ivan felt there was no need to spend House Points, and he began preparing the Wolfsbane Potion again.
This time, Ivan was very cautious, carefully following the recipe's measurements, not adding a bit more or less.
After an hour of meticulous work, the Potion in the beaker gradually stabilized, turning into a thick liquid.
"Phew, finally succeeded!" Ivan sighed in relief. He had been confident it would work; otherwise, the recipe given by the System would have indicated a required Potions level.
After placing the completed Wolfsbane Potion aside, Ivan continued to prepare the next bottle. He only stopped when he had used up all the ingredients.
"There's about a sixty percent chance of success." Ivan muttered, looking at the discarded Potion ingredients in the trash bin.
Perhaps only by upgrading his Potion-making skills to level five could he achieve a hundred percent success rate in brewing the Wolfsbane Potion.
As for the cost, Ivan roughly calculated that it would be around two to three Galleons. The most expensive ingredient was Werewolf Blood, which required one hundred milliliters for each batch, regardless of whether the brewing was successful or not.
After finishing this, Ivan began to repair the heavily damaged Protective Ring from the previous battle.
During the afternoon battle, he had used the Protective Ring several times in a short period, causing the material to wear out due to the fluctuations of Magic Power. Although it still appeared to function normally, it was better to repair it just in case.
Additionally, the Magic Ring needed to be recharged as well.
Thinking about this, Ivan felt a bit depressed. After repairing the Magic Ring, there were no limits on the number of uses, but it needed to be recharged by infusing Magic Power into it before it could be used.
He had already figured out the general meaning of the Runes on it; they were simple storage and release mechanisms.
This resulted in the Magic Ring having an extremely low utilization rate of Magic Power.
If the total amount of Magic Power in his body was one unit, the Magic Ring required a full five units to be fully charged.
The only consolation was that it could still be used even if it wasn't fully charged, though the effects would be less optimal.
After infusing more than half of his Magic Power into the Magic Ring, Ivan realized that it was already dawn. He hurriedly turned off the lights and went to bed.
"Ivan-Hals!" Aisa's shout came from downstairs.
Half-asleep, Ivan heard Aisa's call from downstairs.
Yawning, he rolled out of bed and ran down the stairs. Whenever his mother called him by his full name, it was usually for something urgent or because he had caused trouble.
When he reached the bottom, Ivan sighed in relief. Aisa had called him because the Ministry of Magic had sent people over.
The three Aurors who arrived were Delius, Ellison, and Sunny. They had come to collect the final batch of Protective Items.
Before Ivan could greet them, Aisa urged him to go fetch the joke items from the Weasley brothers, which had been piling up in his room.
Ivan had to make another trip and brought down a large package, placing it on the table. Only then did he have the chance to ask, "Captain Delius, how is the recent cleanup operation at the Ministry going?"
Due to the System task's prompt, Ivan was quite concerned about it.
"The situation isn't great; several colleagues have been injured in the past few days", Delius hesitated for a moment before deciding to tell the truth.
"However, it's much better than before. Thanks to your Protective Items, none of the Aurors who used the Protective Rings were injured."
At this point, Delius felt somewhat relieved. A few days ago, he had led a team in a major operation for the Ministry and was caught in a large-scale Dark Magic spell. Fortunately, the Protective Ring had helped him withstand the impact; otherwise, he would be lying in the hospital with his injured colleagues.
Those seventy Galleons were well worth it!
