Chapter 143: He Will Definitely Become an Admiral
Chapter 143: He Will Definitely Become an Admiral
A gust of wind swept through the area where Kuro had been standing, leaving his former spot of ground empty.
The bear rose onto its hind legs, stared at its palm, and tilted its head sideways with a blank expression.
Confusion.
Could a man like that actually be slapped away by him?
"Oho~ That’s quite rare indeed." Lucius Kro finished the banana in his hand, surprised.
"Kuro!" Lida gasped, her eyes reddening again.
"It’s alright", Lucius Kro reassured, glancing over. "The bear just slapped him away."
"Slapped away?" Lida tilted her head.
Sengoku stepped forward. "Bear’s ability can slap people away. I’ve heard it can send someone flying nonstop for three days and three nights. Where exactly they end up, only the person themselves would know."
"With Big Brother Kuro’s strength, he shouldn’t be injured. He’ll contact us himself once a few days pass."
At these words, Lida’s face immediately turned expressionless, tinged with subtle disgust.
So that’s what this guy’s thinking, huh?
No wonder he rushed toward the bear earlier.
Silvers Rayleigh was also puzzled. Though the bear had assured him Luffy’s crew would be safe, with another man involved, things weren’t so certain anymore.
They had Luffy as a weakness, but this young Navy officer didn’t. Clearly, Kuro would be the more capable choice.
But suddenly being slapped away? That was something Silvers Rayleigh never anticipated.
Had Bartolomeo Bear’s ability truly become this terrifying?
After a moment of confusion, the bear turned toward Luffy and saw the boy now glaring at him with burning hatred.
"Goodbye."
Bang!
With one slap, Luffy vanished.
Luffy’s crew was officially wiped out at Shabondy.
Silvers Rayleigh exchanged glances with Lucius Kro. "Guess I’m just too old. Almost got taken down by this new generation. Lucius Kro, your Navy really has a remarkable figure now."
"Old man thinks so too", Lucius Kro chuckled. "Though you pirates keep causing trouble every year—truly headaches for the Navy. This generation’s labeled 'Worst Generation,' sounds scary just hearing it!"
"Don’t lie."
Silvers Rayleigh smirked. "Since my goal’s achieved, an old retired guy like me shouldn’t interfere anymore."
With that, he turned to leave, waving his hand.
Lucius Kro watched him. His sunglasses reflected a shimmer of light, but he ultimately let Silvers Rayleigh depart.
Approaching the bear, he asked, "You’re ready to explain this to the higher-ups?"
"I’ll handle it", the bear said softly.
Lucius Kro sighed lightly. "The World Nobles are stubborn and ruthless. Is sacrificing yourself worth protecting a small pirate crew?"
As a frequent guest at Vegapunk’s, Lucius Kro naturally knew the bear well.
The bear’s original modifications had already been sufficient.
The cyborg project had already succeeded.
But now, releasing criminals who assaulted World Nobles without authorization—if the bear insisted on taking full blame, he’d face complete reconstruction.
"Well, you’ve got your own ideas. Since the main criminal’s gone, this old man needs to bring someone back as a scapegoat. The World Nobles can be quite annoying."
Lucius Kro rubbed his chin. "Sengoku, go capture some pirates to report back. As for Kuro, we’ll wait for his call."
"Understood, Gramps." Sengoku nodded, turning to Lida and Klah. "Will you two join and capture some pirates?"
Klah’s eyes lit up. "Of course!"
Capturing pirates was great!
The more pirates he caught, the faster he’d achieve promotion goals—both for himself and Kuro.
Once his rank rose, he wouldn’t have to be a mere tool anymore.
High above the sky, an air mass accelerated through the clouds, soaring past seagulls.
Kuro had finally achieved his wish.
He grinned mischievously, adjusting his hat.
"Let’s go!"
With a snap of his fingers, he activated the Heavenly Treasure Vault hovering in the higher atmosphere, fleeing alongside it.
Lida had named this vault, and Kuro found it quite fitting.
The vault must come with him—leaving it outside his control range would erase Shabondy entirely.
"Three days and three nights! Three days and three nights!"
Kuro laughed so hard his teeth nearly showed. Lying relaxed in the air mass, he lit a cigar and exhaled a satisfied smoke ring.
Three whole days!
At this speed, even if warships spotted him upon landing, there wouldn’t be enough time to return before the Top War concluded.
By then, the Top War would be long over.
What concern would that be to him?
Later, he’d request a transfer to some remote station—safe and comfortable retirement.
Preferably East Blue, his hometown. Can’t abandon one’s roots.
Daily cultivation, cigar breaks, salary collection, and occasionally catching a few clueless pirates to meet quotas. Doesn’t that sound blissful?
Grinning, Kuro hummed happily, lying flat with his legs crossed, thoroughly enjoying himself.
...
At Headquarters, the atmosphere was tense.
Sengoku had already begun operations.
Groups of Navy arrived continuously, some already gathered at Marineford. Never before had so many Navy officers gathered here.
Those summoned trained at Headquarters’ training grounds.
"One, two, one!"
Massive drills echoed—some were Headquarters veterans, others newly arrived from the Four Seas.
This mobilization sought ten thousand elite Navy officers—anyone with notable achievements was directly summoned to Headquarters, transferred to Headquarters’ jurisdiction.
"One, two, one!"
In one training ground, countless Navy officers swung their fists in unison. A burly man in his thirties exerted the most effort, roaring the loudest.
His earnest spirit seemed to infect those around him, inspiring nearby officers to train harder.
"Stop! Five-minute break, then run two hundred laps!"
A training officer barked orders.
"Sir!"
The Navy officers saluted in unison before dispersing. Only the burly man remained standing rigidly.
The officer nodded at Kas approvingly before departing.
"Hard work!"
"Still training later? Drink some water."
The Navy chatted casually, but the crowd gathered around the burly man was the densest.
"Hey Kas, I heard you’re from East Blue. How’s the pirate situation there? I heard it’s extremely peaceful, unlike our North Blue—so chaotic, pirates are brutal!"
A Navy officer asked enviously.
This sharp-eyed, burly figure was none other than Kas!
After achievements in East Blue, he’d immediately applied to transfer to Headquarters upon receiving the mobilization order. His promotion to Ensign was swiftly approved.
Hearing the question, Kas replied seriously, "No sea is peaceful as long as pirates exist. But don’t overestimate them—so long as we uphold our Justice with unyielding resolve, pirates will never defeat us. Pirates lack conviction, while we have it!"
His tone carried infectious energy, electrifying the surrounding Navy.
"No wonder they call you Kas—the man of 'Unyielding Justice.' Right! As long as we’re resolute, pirates won’t scare us!"
"Exactly, Kas!"
"Big Brother Kas, I want to follow you!"
Kas smiled. "My Justice was learned from another man I deeply admire. I came to Headquarters to follow him, but I’m not worthy yet. When I grow stronger, I’ll stand behind him, supporting him."
He inhaled deeply, shouting to the crowd, "If you follow me, we’ll help that man rise step by step. I believe—he will definitely become an Admiral!"
