Chapter 143: Domain Technology and the Crazy Dave
Chapter 143: Domain Technology and the Crazy Dave
The City Hall's technology tree is divided into three major modules: Technology, Culture, and Military.
The Technology module has the most research projects, ranging from ancient stone tools and iron weapons to modern nuclear fusion and nanotechnology. It covers a vast array of advancements.
The Culture module unlocks entertainment buildings, improving the livability of the domain and enhancing the residents' cohesion and cultural confidence.
The Military module is primarily used to defend against external threats. It unlocks war-related buildings and allows for the recruitment and strengthening of armies.
Of course, technology is the foundation of both culture and military. Without a strong technological base, powerful culture and military strength are impossible. Many research projects in the Culture and Military modules require prerequisites from the Technology module.
Therefore, the most crucial area of research for the domain is the Technology module.
Opening the Technology module, Su Yu found that he could currently research only three projects:
- Animal Husbandry: Allows your citizens to raise livestock, providing blueprints for the Barn and Slaughterhouse. Cost: 1 Gold, Research Time: 8 hours.
- Irrigation: Enables your citizens to efficiently use water resources for irrigation, providing blueprints for the Well and Granary. Cost: 1 Gold, Research Time: 8 hours.
- Iron Smelting: Allows your citizens to mine and forge iron, providing blueprints for the Mine and Blacksmith. Cost: 1 Gold, Research Time: 8 hours.
All three projects must be completed to unlock further technologies in the tree.
After some thought, Su Yu decided to start with Irrigation. Since his domain was near a river, the benefits of irrigation would be the highest.
After selecting Irrigation, a progress bar appeared, showing 0%. It would take eight hours to complete.
Su Yu wasn't in a hurry. He could let the technology research progress slowly and set an alarm to remind him to check in and advance it on time.
After setting the research project, Su Yu left the City Hall.
Apart from setting up the technology research, there wasn't much else he needed to do in the domain. Low-level domain development was straightforward—just maintain livability and prosperity to ensure a high population growth rate.
With the help of the Quilava and the butler Cole, Su Yu didn't need to worry too much about the day-to-day management.
He took a quick tour of the domain, giving some management tips to the Quilava and Cole, and then left.
There was still an hour and a half before the start of the 7th ring of Tina's quest. Su Yu wanted to use this time to get his hands on Crazy Dave.
About ten minutes later, Su Yu arrived at a small villa on the southern outskirts of Oran City. He saw Crazy Dave standing by the villa's entrance.
"Hello, Dave!" Su Yu called out enthusiastically from a distance. "I'm the lord of Apex Village, and I've come to visit you."
"Hello," replied Dave, who looked like a farmer.
As Su Yu walked closer, he took out several packages of wild boar and mountain goat meat from his backpack—these were the fruits of the domain players' hunting.
"These are for you," Su Yu said, holding up the meat.
Dave, who was a simple farmer and rarely got to eat meat, couldn't help but swallow hard.
Of course, Dave knew that Su Yu must have some ulterior motive for visiting. So he cautiously asked, "Respected lord, what brings you to my humble abode?"
"Take it easy," Su Yu said, warmly putting his arm around Dave's shoulders. "We have all this meat. Why don't we cook it up and chat while we eat?"
"Alright then." Dave wasn’t sure what this important person wanted, but as a simple farmer, he respectfully welcomed Su Yu into his home.
Following Dave into his yard, Su Yu noticed the gardens on either side of the path. They were filled with magical plants—there were smiling Sunflowers, towering and gentle Wall-Nuts, and the fierce Peashooters.
When they saw Su Yu enter, the Peashooters and Frost Peashooters immediately aimed their cannons at him.
"Wait, guys!" Dave quickly spread his arms in front of Su Yu. "This is an honored guest, not an enemy."
The plants, hearing Dave’s words, lowered their cannons and calmed down.
"My apologies, my lord," Dave said as he led the way, explaining, "These are magical plants I accidentally cultivated. They’re a bit skittish."
"No problem."
Su Yu didn’t seem to care much about the plants, smiling as he followed Dave into the house.
Soon, the aroma of grilled meat filled Dave’s home. Su Yu had used some very precious spices, such as black pepper, rosemary, and valuable palm oil.
Dave, who rarely got to enjoy grilled meat, couldn’t resist the delicious smell and began to eat ravenously. Su Yu, sitting beside him, also picked up a small piece and nibbled on it slowly.
Once Dave had eaten his fill, Su Yu smiled and said, "Dave, to be honest, I do have a request."
Dave, realizing that Su Yu was finally getting to the point, swallowed his mouthful of meat and looked at him earnestly.
"Here’s the thing," Su Yu said slowly. "I’ve established a territory by the Moonlight River, called 'Aphsi Village.'"
"Right now, Aphsi Village has fewer than 100 residents and is still a small village. Building it up will require a lot of capable people."
"I’ve heard that you have the best planting skills, even capable of cultivating magical crops. Would you be willing to come to my territory and help me build the village?"
Dave nodded to himself, understanding the reason this important person had come to him. However, he didn’t want to leave his yard or the magical plants he had nurtured, so he hesitantly said, "I’m sorry, but—"
"Wait, don’t rush," Su Yu interrupted. "If you come to my territory, I’ll offer you 100 Psychic Coins per day. And if you’re unhappy living there, you can leave at any time."
"100 Psychic Coins per day?!" Dave’s eyes lit up. He usually earned only 20 to 30 Psychic Coins a day, so this offer was incredibly generous!
But thinking about the magical plants he had grown to love, he still hesitated. "Thank you for your generosity, but I still can’t—"
"200 Psychic Coins per day!"
"No, no, my lord, you misunderstand me." Dave quickly waved his hands. "It’s not about the money. Let me show you around the yard, and I’ll explain in detail."
"Alright then," Su Yu nodded.
Given Dave’s unique situation, Su Yu knew he wouldn’t be easily recruited. He could only be patient and take his time.
