Chapter 143: Brother, You Smell Good
Chapter 143: Brother, You Smell Good
Nearly a thousand Marines were no match for the advancing Disaster Pirates, and the addition of three hundred Demon Clan members more than made up for the hundred dead and over two hundred injured pirates. The combat strength of the Demon Clan alone drastically shifted the balance of power.
These three hundred Demon Clan members were more than enough to take on the thousands of Marines, not to mention the presence of the officers.
Lili swung her arm, unleashing a flying bird. The azure bird-shaped air current spread its wings and slashed, felling over ten Marines in its path as it rushed toward a building on the edge of White Port, carving a gap in the roof.
This move, called 'Flying Bird', was not a simple horizontal or vertical slash. Although it was a swinging motion, the cutting attack resembled a piercing strike with volume. The entire bird shape was imbued with blades of slicing energy.
The range wasn't vast, but it was highly concentrated.
Mary's black hair writhed like a pitch-black serpent, extending forward while the tip sharpened, emitting brilliant rays of light.
It wasn't Armament Haki, but by using Life Return and channeling her Haki through her hair, she performed Finger Gun, impaling the surrounding Marines in her path, leaving them to fall to the ground.
Renitia kept it simple, wielding her mechanical hammer to wreak havoc. Her customized hammer concealed three specially made shells—small in size but packing a punch stronger than regular shells. It also held a batch of lead bullets for heavy firepower.
Most of the time, she relied on the power of the motor to stir the air, triggering air cannons. When things got messy, she would swing her hammer and smash her foes.
Although her physical strength was minimal, the inertia generated by the motor made her mechanical hammer incredibly powerful.
Hawkins strolled through the crowd of Marines, his longsword cutting down one Marine after another, unfazed by the fact that he was surrounded.
In swordsmanship, he might not be on par with Lili, but compared to the Marines, he was overwhelmingly superior.
Bang!
A Marine found an opportunity and fired a shot at Hawkins from behind, hitting him squarely in the chest. But as soon as he pulled the trigger, he froze, feeling a sting in his chest. Looking down, he saw a bloody mark on his chest.
"It's your fate to die."
Hawkins casually swung his sword, taking out a nearby Marine without even glancing back at the fallen shooter. However, a smoking straw doll with a bloody chest poked out from the fallen man's body.
As soon as he joined the battle, Hawkins had activated his ability. Against opponents of this caliber, no matter how many there were, they served as his substitutes. Although he could only have ten at a time, as long as there were enough enemies, he wouldn't take any damage until the very last Marine was finished off.
The bounty of 249 million berries was no joke.
In the first half of the Grand Line, any pirate with a bounty over 100 million berries was not to be trifled with.
He knew how to play to his advantages and avoid dangers, and he wouldn't engage in fights he wasn't confident about. But those he considered uncertain were few and far between.
His ability development was quite advanced, and ordinary people had no means of countering his power. No matter how numerous the enemies were, their efforts would be futile.
Ajin's combat crutches danced as he weaved through the Marines, his iron hammer sending several of them flying. Even in the midst of his attacks, his speed didn't diminish, and he became a fleeting shadow, a ghostly figure that toppled batches of Marines wherever he went.
Bellamy leaped and bounced among the Marines, using his Spring-Spring Fruit powers to launch himself in all directions. Each punch took out a Marine, and the force sent them flying into their comrades.
"Iron Block!"
Palu let the blades and bullets hit him, baring his teeth in a grin, his teeth gleaming in the sunlight. He gave a thumbs-up, causing the crescent-shaped bangs on his forehead to tremble.
"Even without my iron shield, I'm still a handsome man, the absolutely defensive Palu. How's that? I'm quite skilled, aren't I?"
"Woof! Woof woof!"
Mute Miot brandished his katana, slicing down the Marines surrounding him. He ignored the attacks from behind, and even when the blades and bullets struck him, his body instinctively tensed up, causing the attacks to create a series of loud clangs on his body.
He, too, had learned the Iron Block technique.
Within the Disaster Pirates, many sought only pleasure and wanted to ride on the fame of the pirate crew.
But there were also quite a few who desired to become stronger.
After all, their line of work was bloody and brutal, and without strength, they would enjoy nothing.
Sarge enjoyed seeing his subordinates grow stronger. The stronger they became, the more they could accomplish, and under his leadership, there was a clear path to strength.
The Six Powers provided a systematic way to enhance one's physical abilities, and mastering them meant a comprehensive enhancement of one's physique.
Learning this skill began during the East Sea period, with Sag teaching Ajin cultivation methods and leading him on the path to improvement.
However, this was a voluntary endeavor; those who wanted to become stronger followed his teachings, and those who didn't were left to their own devices.
After all, not everyone could master this art, no matter how hard they tried.
200 times the effort?
Don't make such absurd jokes.
As for the new recruits from Devil Valley, it was too soon to tell, but even the most promising among them, Bellamy, had yet to master the Six Powers.
Among the volunteers from the East Sea, only Miot had learned the 'Iron Block' technique.
Standing at three meters tall, he was an exceptional individual with a sturdy physique. Given the time he had spent training, it was only natural that he had mastered one of the Six Powers.
The battle between the pirates and the Marines was a one-sided affair. In no time, most of the thousand Marines were either defeated or fleeing. Just then, the Death Star, which had been quietly waiting on the ocean, sailed into the port. The fierce-looking pirates jumped off without even using the gangplank and immediately drew their swords, ready to plunder.
The collapsed naval base was unable to respond, as their cannons were buried under the rubble, and even their personnel struggled to escape due to the blocked exit. The main gate had collapsed, trapped under stones, rendering them unable to strike the approaching pirate ship. They could only watch helplessly as the pirates charged into the port.
Soon, they wouldn't even have a chance to organize a counterattack.
After dealing with the Marines, the pirates stormed into the town, turning their attention to the naval base.
Ajin, at the forefront, used 'Shave' to increase his speed and rushed to the entrance blocked by debris. With a fierce swing of his hammer, he smashed it to the ground.
Boom!
The naval base's entrance, buried under stones, was blown apart by Ajin's hammer strike. With a loud command, he said, "Charge!"
The Demon Clan poured into the base like a flood through the broken entrance.
"I thought I told them to plunder the town. Why are they bothering with this rubble?"
Sag strode forward and clicked his tongue.
"There's no rush for that, and they're doing a pretty good job here," replied Lili, walking alongside Sag.
"Indeed, they are doing well," Sag agreed with a laugh. "In the future, even the weakest among them will be as strong as Ajin is now."
Mastering all six techniques was not a difficult task for the Demon Clan, given their unique physique.
Compared to natural-born giants, the Demon Clan might seem inferior, especially since they weren't 'Devil Fruits' like the legendary Oz. However, their normal stature granted them greater agility, making it easier to master the Six Powers.
With the naval base's entrance breached, the Demon Clan members charged in, knocking down the already-leaning walls and wreaking havoc. The Marines inside the base didn't stand a chance against their onslaught.
All that was left to do now was to ransack the place.
When Sag punched the naval base, he didn't shatter it to pieces; it still maintained its structural integrity.
Ajin took the lead, locating the storage room within the naval base and retrieving weapons and gunpowder.
They had no use for cannons.
Cannons were the same everywhere, and unless they had special abilities that affected their power, they were all equally mundane.
As for food supplies, they helped themselves to those as well.
This was different from robbing the rich; Sag had his standards. Stealing ingredients and supplies wasn't worth much, except for the large quantities involved.
Sag, having once farmed with his foster father, knew that wealthy people in this regard were few and far between. Those self-sufficient farmers would usually be paid after being robbed, as if the pirates had simply purchased the goods.
Only when encountering large-scale food merchants would Sag directly plunder their goods.
After all, not all islands were blessed with abundant resources, and merchants transporting unique produce from other islands made for very lucrative targets.
For now, however, they didn't have to spend a dime as they helped themselves to the naval base's provisions.
"Captain Sag! I've found gold!"
Ajin, standing atop the naval base, called out excitedly, "There are three boxes of it!"
"Excellent! That's fantastic news! Get it all down here!" Sag exclaimed, overjoyed.
Finally, their efforts would pay off! Otherwise, even with the single treasure chest they had, he would have considered this trip a waste.
The Demon Clan and the newly arrived subordinates finished looting the naval base and immediately headed for White Port, joining the ongoing plunder.
Even little Lass drew his knife and joined the crowd, entering lavishly decorated buildings and shops to take part in the chaos.
The Demon Clan, in particular, was thrilled, and the first stores they raided were clothing shops. They had long admired the clothing of those around them, as they had been hiding underground, wrapped in stone skin. Now that they had emerged into a colorful world, they wanted everything they saw.
Clearly, this man had no sense of style.
"What are you wearing?" Sag asked, spotting a member of the Demon Clan with a red headband, a leather belt wrapped around his upper body, and a mischievous smile on his face, wearing only a pair of shorts. Sag tugged at the corner of his mouth and said, "Go change, you look like a pervert!"
If it weren't for their different skin colors and the fact that this fellow's eyes lit up only at the mention of clothes, Sag would have personally dealt with this newcomer, who had only recently joined their crew.
Otherwise, scenes like 'Brother, you smell good' would soon unfold on his ship.
"Yes, boss," the Demon Clan member scratched the back of his head and turned back into the clothing store.
But as soon as he left, another Demon Clan member emerged, a burly, muscular man wearing a maid outfit.
"Boss, why does this dress have two pouches on the chest? It doesn't fit me," the man tugged at the loose fabric on his chest, perplexed.
"That's because it's a damn dress for women! Don't you feel weird wearing it?!" Sag exclaimed, a vein popping out on his forehead. "Just stick to the standard shirts and pants, don't mix and match!"
His tolerance for such fashion choices was limited.
He despised transvestites, perverts, and vulgar displays.
While his subordinates were free to do as they pleased, it only extended to their actions and not to such bizarre dressing.
The looting in White Port went smoothly and quickly, thanks to the lack of resistance. It was much faster than their previous endeavor in the kingdom's capital.
The crew hauled large and small crates, loading the spoils onto the Death Star. They also brought back the injured crew members and handed them over to the ship's doctors for treatment.
Thankfully, there were no unexpected incidents in this regard.
Then, they set sail.
There wasn't much left to plunder on this island, and to be honest, if it weren't for the Golden Kingdom's presence, this place wouldn't have been on Sag's radar for plundering.
But since they were here, they might as well take something back.
Once they were onboard, Ajin took stock of their loot. Aside from the necessary supplies, Bellamy hadn't acquired much—a total of 300 million berries from the kingdom's capital and White Port combined.
This place was prosperous, but it also depended on what was being offered. A place that only traded in stone materials wouldn't make one rich, no matter how bustling it seemed.
Sag took half of the loot, and the rest was distributed among the crew. The officers received about 40 million berries each, while the rest of the crew, including the newly joined Demon Clan members, received around a million berries each.
As for the gold coins, there were four boxes and some gold bars.
Sag divided this bounty into halves as well, and the rest was shared among the crew, along with whatever else they had managed to acquire during the plundering of White Port.
All things considered, it was a decent haul for a unified effort of over a thousand men.
Sag didn't prohibit his crew from keeping some of the loot for themselves, as long as the items couldn't be easily valued and weren't gold.
Some of his men had a penchant for unique weapons or eye-catching jewelry, and Sag allowed them to keep such treasures as long as they followed his orders and the crew's rules.
After all, trying to impose strict rules on pirates was a futile endeavor. Whether the crew was large or small, some looting and keeping of treasures would always occur, and it had little to do with numbers.
While the Golden Kingdom raid hadn't yielded much gold, Sag had gained some formidable new crew members.
Three hundred and five, to be precise, including Lass, a total of three hundred and six new Demon Clan members. Their addition made up for the disappointment of not finding any gold.
At least there was some consolation in gaining strong new subordinates.
With proper training, these new crew members would help them plunder even more riches in the future!
"Alright!"
After the distribution of spoils was complete, Sag slapped the armrest of his chair and grinned at his crew. "Now, put away your loot, and let's have a feast! Let's celebrate another successful raid!"
"Oh!" The crew cheered in response, their voices echoing through the first-floor banquet hall.
The excess food they had plundered would be put to good use for this celebration.
Barrels of alcohol were rolled out, and the newly joined Demon Clan members joined in the festivities. The kitchen crew first prepared some snacks to accompany the drinks, and then they retreated to prepare a grand meal.
Sag wasn't concerned about these new Demon Clan members integrating with the rest of the crew.
Out at sea, it didn't take much—a few drinks and a few raids together, and they would quickly become thick as thieves.
Amidst the lively atmosphere, the Death Star sailed with the wind, following the direction of the Eternal Pointer, toward their next destination—the Spring Queen's City.
