Chapter 142: Professor Snape's Gift (Second Update)
Chapter 142: Professor Snape’s Gift (Second Update)
"Thank you, Agent Hill, but there’s no need to trouble yourself with a helicopter. I can go back on my own. I’ll be here on time tomorrow morning!"
On the aircraft carrier’s deck, Jerry declined Hill’s offer and took off on his flying broom, vanishing in a flash.
Actually, the helicopter wasn’t much faster than his flying broom, and the carrier wasn’t too far from New York City.
Earlier in the office, Jerry and Nick Fury had reached an agreement.
Jerry agreed to come over the next day and take a special flight to Mexico to help investigate the secrets of Mjolnir.
In return, Nick Fury promised to help Jerry crack the code for the twelve robotic soldiers in his mirror and to create a remote control for them. He also offered to repair a few of the damaged robots.
Initially, Jerry had planned to ask Iron Man for help with this, but he decided it would be a waste of Iron Man’s time and resources. Besides, S.H.I.E.L.D. was already asking for his assistance, so he decided to entrust the task to them.
Would S.H.I.E.L.D. tamper with the robots while cracking the code?
Of course, they would!
However, Jerry wasn’t worried at all. He never intended to use these twelve flying, modern-weapon-wielding robots in this world. He planned to take them to another world, rendering any tampering by S.H.I.E.L.D. useless.
Seeing Jerry leave, Agent Hill returned to Fury’s office.
"Director, is it really a good idea to help the wizard crack the code for these robotic soldiers? He’s just a kid, and I’m afraid—"
"It’s fine!"
Director Fury looked at the scattered robotic soldiers that Jerry had just pulled out of the mirror and waved his hand dismissively.
In his view, the wizard’s magic was just as powerful, if not more so, than these robotic soldiers, especially the magic that shattered Ivan’s War Armor in one blow.
If the wizard truly wanted to cause trouble, a few more or fewer robotic soldiers wouldn’t make much of a difference.
Moreover, during the negotiations, the wizard had made it clear that he didn’t want money. If Fury hadn’t agreed to the terms, the wizard wouldn’t have offered to help in New Mexico.
"By the way, while cracking the code and repairing the robots, make sure to install a hidden tracking system in each one!"
"Understood, Director!"
Hill knew that the Director still harbored doubts about the wizard’s true identity and wanted to use the robots to track the wizard’s location to uncover his true identity.
As the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick felt uneasy until he knew the wizard’s true identity. From Nick’s perspective, this was understandable, but from Jerry’s standpoint, he needed to protect his family and couldn’t risk revealing his identity, at least not yet.
This world was like that sometimes; there was no absolute right or wrong, no absolute good or evil. Most of the time, it was just a matter of perspective.
"By the way, Director, the wizard gave you a nickname. He calls you ‘Cyclops.’ I think it’s quite fitting!"
Just before leaving the office, Hill remembered the meaning of “Cyclops” she had looked up on her phone and couldn’t resist a bit of teasing.
"Cyclops?"
Fury raised an eyebrow, puzzled. He found the word’s pronunciation strange, almost like Mandarin.
Turning on his computer, he used voice search to look up the meaning of "Cyclops." Soon, he saw an image of a large, peeled Cyclops on the screen.
Looking at the computer, then at the mirror on the desk, Fury chuckled helplessly:
"...It really does look like it..."
2:00 AM.
Jerry arrived home, put away his broom, and checked the Panel. The cooldown time for Mini World had already ended.
Now, he could choose to enter the world of Mage Apprentice again or return to the world of Harry Potter.
Without a moment's hesitation, Jerry chose the latter.
A brief dizziness, and when he opened his eyes again, he was back in his room at the Leaky Cauldron.
Checking the clock and the Magic Calendar, it was 2:00 AM on January 1, 1992.
He had spent a week in the Sorcerer's Apprentice world, and he had been absent from this world for a week as well.
However, the room's furnishings remained unchanged, as he had paid for the room in full until the start of the school term. So, even though he wasn't at the bar, the room was still his.
The only difference was the numerous gifts and dozens of letters that now filled the room.
The gifts were responses to the Christmas presents he had sent to every professor and classmate he knew before he left. Similarly, the dozens of letters were replies from his classmates.
Sure enough, there were letters from Hermione, Harry, Ron, Daphne, Pansy, and surprisingly, even Draco Malfoy. It was quite rare.
There was also a letter from Professor Snape:
"Merry Christmas, Jerry. This is the first time I've received a gift from a student—a rare Blood Crown. It's excellent. I've already used it to brew a Limb Regeneration Elixir. Hopefully, you'll never need to use it!"
"Professor Snape is really generous!"
Seeing the reply, Jerry quickly found the bottle of Limb Regeneration Elixir that Snape had sent him from the pile of gifts.
A Limb Regeneration Elixir is a high-grade potion that is quite rare in the potion market. As long as you don't die immediately, even if you lose half your body, drinking this potion will allow you to recover in a short time.
Of course, if the injury involves Dark Magic curses, the potion won't work.
Even so, this potion is one of the most expensive in any potion shop.
Jerry hadn't expected that sending a relatively rare Blood Crown would result in Snape personally gathering the other rare herbs and brewing a bottle of Limb Regeneration Elixir for him.
Honestly, Jerry was a bit moved.
After reading all the letters, Jerry organized the gifts and stored them in his box space.
Most of the gifts from his classmates were various magical snacks, with only Hermione, who knew him well, giving him a spellbook. The gifts from the professors were generally more valuable, usually around ten gold galleons.
The most valuable gift was the Limb Regeneration Elixir from Snape.
It seemed that Professor Snape really favored Slytherin students, especially the outstanding ones, and he certainly wasn't short on gold galleons.
However, the gift Jerry had the highest hopes for—Dumbledore—was just a pair of knitting needles. Although they were enchanted to knit sweaters on their own, they weren't very useful to him!
