………………
It wasn't just Wang Jun and his men who were roaring in anger; there were also two to three thousand people on the other side of the fort wall who had stopped their work and were charging in, their necks flushed with rage. They surrounded Wang Jun and his hundred men in the center.
Surrounded by thousands of people and their angry roars, Wang Jun felt dizzy. This was a complete rejection of his work, a situation he had never imagined.
The truth was, Wang Jun was a Data NPC, and this wasn't his area of expertise. If Wang Jun had been Hu Yinwen, this situation would never have occurred. Although Hu Yinwen's leadership skills were far inferior to Wang Jun's, he couldn't organize thousands of people efficiently in a short time. However, his ability to understand and communicate with the citizens was something Wang Jun lacked.
But these were minor issues; Wang Jun's current shortcomings could be overcome. The most important thing now was to calm this storm.
However, the storm showed no signs of abating. How could it be calmed so easily? Thousands of people, their faces red and necks bulging, demanded Wang Jun and his men leave the fort and hand it over to them. They seemed determined not to rest until the fort was theirs.
Wang Jun had never faced a situation like this before and didn't know how to handle it.
Although Wang Jun was unsure how to proceed, the burly man across from him knew exactly what he was about to do. He had finally managed to stir up the citizens' anger, and his goal was not just to drive Wang Jun and his men out of the fort. This crowd would not let such an opportunity for revenge slip away.
"Get out of here! What are you still doing? Leave the fort now! You're not welcome here, and everything in this fort was taken from the citizens. You're not allowed to take a single thing with you!"
The burly man was Zhang Tie, and despite his recent performance of questioning and roaring like an oppressed citizen, he was actually the leader of a group of bandits.
Speaking of which, it was Lu Hai Kong who had provoked this man first. Before Lu Hai Kong destroyed the Black Wind Fort, didn't he eliminate a group of bandits?
Zhang Tie was the leader of that group. Lu Hai Kong had destroyed and taken most of his possessions. Zhang Tie had escaped only because he hadn't been there in person, but he couldn't swallow this humiliation.
By chance, he discovered Lu Hai Kong's fort and managed to blend in with the refugees, infiltrating Lu Hai Kong's fort.
Initially, Zhang Tie had felt hopeless because Lu Hai Kong's strength far surpassed his own. Even with a surprise attack, he couldn't possibly take over the fort and get his revenge.
But he couldn't bring himself to give up. Soon, his persistence paid off, and he discovered a weakness in the fort: many citizens were angry, anxious, and afraid.
In the midst of the growing unrest, neither Lu Haikong nor Wang Jun had effectively addressed the concerns of the citizens, providing Zhang Tie with an opportunity to take action. With Wang Jun preoccupied by the construction of the mountain fortress and his vigilance, Zhang Tie found it easy to execute his plans.
As thousands of agitated citizens gathered, Zhang Tie felt a sweet satisfaction, akin to having tasted honey. The thought of the mountain fortress' wealth, accumulated over years by the Black Wind Fort, made his eyes gleam with greed. He knew that Lu Haikong and his men had eliminated the Black Wind Fort and seized their riches, making the mountain fortress a veritable treasure trove. Zhang Tie believed that if he could drive out or eliminate the bandits, he would easily gain control of the fortress.
With the fortress walls in place, Zhang Tie felt invincible, unafraid of any threats from the Xianbei Tribe or the government officials. His heart raced with excitement as he envisioned a bright future.
"Get out of the fortress! We won't live with bandits!" Zhang Tie shouted, his voice filled with fervor.
As he cried out, a chilling sensation gripped him, causing his scalp to tingle. Instinctively, he raised his hand to protect his neck.
Simultaneously, a steel blade sliced through the air, grazing his arm and leaving a long, bloody gash.
"Not dead yet? Then, another strike!"
Ma Pen, with his cold demeanor and narrow eyes, raised his steel blade, ready to strike again.
However, Ma Pen had missed his best opportunity. Zhang Tie, caught off guard earlier, had managed to dodge his attack. Now, with Zhang Tie aware of his presence, it would be even more challenging.
Zhang Tie quickly evaded Ma Pen's assault and turned to his companions, including the enraged citizens who surrounded Ma Pen.
Ma Pen, one of Lu Haikong's subordinates, stood out for his sinister aura and villainous appearance. Though skilled in basic knife techniques, he preferred using a short blade. He excelled in sneak attacks rather than direct combat, embodying the archetype of a villain.
Despite his villainous nature, Ma Pen's loyalty was unparalleled among the group, reaching an impressive 99%. He had infiltrated the crowd during Zhang Tie's initial incitement, seeking an opportunity to eliminate him.
In truth, Ma Pen had executed his plan well, but his strength fell short. With a mere 55 in strength, he was no match for Zhang Tie, whose strength had surpassed 60. If Zhang Tie's strength had been slightly higher, Ma Pen's attempt might have succeeded.
"Did you see that? This is the true nature of these bandits! They dare to kill in broad daylight. Can you imagine living with such bloodthirsty individuals?"
Zhang Tie, despite his bleeding arm and the near-assassination attempt, quickly regained his composure and seized the moment to further incite the citizens.
"Get out of the fortress! We won't live with bandits!"
The citizens' roar intensified, and amidst the clamor, a voice as cold as ice echoed through the air.
"You don't want to live with us? Very well, I'll grant your wish!"
