Chapter 1412: Justified Murder
Chapter 1412: Justified Murder
"What a bunch of stingy old misers. I can't believe those worthless scum actually gained the Dark Lord's recognition."
Zack, still clutching a bag of Galleons he had just received from the Death Eaters, muttered discontentedly to himself. He used to be a member of a Snatcher crew, but ever since those damn Mudbloods went into hiding, the Snatchers had a hard time making money by capturing them.
Fortunately, these Death Eaters had gone mad, mass-producing Inferi, which gave them a decent income.
The only problem was that the price had dropped; what used to be one Galleon for one Inferius was now one Galleon for several. This had Zack considering whether to give up this damn job.
However, even if he returned to the Snatchers, it would be difficult to make Galleons by capturing Mudbloods.
Zack stopped on the street near his home, suddenly sensing something. He quickly raised his wand and pointed it in a certain direction, but soon lowered it again as there was nothing there.
"Looks like I'm being too sensitive."
Zack muttered, but he still cautiously made his way towards that direction, wand at the ready, illuminating the darkness in front of him. Yet, he found nothing.
"I really am being too sensitive."
He grumbled and turned back towards his home.
Well, this house didn't really belong to Zack; it belonged to a young couple.
Of course, now it was his.
As Zack took out his key and opened the door, he saw something flash in the darkness, and suddenly, a voice that made his heart skip a beat rang out:
"Stun!"
Zack, who had just opened the door and was about to enter, had a look of astonishment on his face before he was hit by the unexpected Stunning Spell and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"It's done, and it was even easier than expected."
A voice sounded from the darkness again, and someone reached out to pick up the wand that had fallen to the ground, waving it outside through the glass.
After a moment, the door was opened again, and someone entered the house, helping to lift Zack's feet and carry him into the hall.
The wooden door creaked shut, and the house fell back into an eerie silence, as if the attack that had just taken place had never happened.
"Is this the guy?"
"Yes, this is Zack. He not only captured quite a few Muggle-born wizards with the Snatchers but also followed the Death Eaters to slaughter Muggle villages and turn them into Inferi."
Fred rolled the man over and moved closer to George's wand, comparing the man's face to the photo, a malicious smile spreading across his face.
Based on the intelligence provided by Percy, Fred, George, and Lee Jordan had found this scumbag named Zack and planned to make him their first prey after careful preparation.
"I hope Sirius' side is going smoothly."
Lee Jordan first searched Zack's pockets, confiscating all his belongings, before taking out the borrowed briefcase from Albert and packing the man, securely bound, into it.
They had agreed to meet with Sirius at a safe house created by Albert. When Fred, George, and Lee Jordan hurried over, they found that Sirius' team had already arrived. Sirius was talking to Lupin, and at their feet lay another unfortunate soul, unconscious.
"I thought you guys would be faster than us." Sirius raised his hand in greeting and asked with a smile, "So, how did it go? Was it smooth?"
"Zack only came home in the middle of the night, so we had to wait a long time."
"Of course, the harvest was good!" Lee Jordan winked.
Fred took the briefcase from Lee Jordan and removed the tightly bound man from it.
"Yes, it's Zack." Sirius took out a photo to confirm the man's identity.
"Actually, I think..."
Lupin was about to speak when Sirius interrupted him.
"There's no way we can give up."
"No, I just feel like we're making a loss." Lupin sighed, "The Polyjuice Potion isn't cheap, and this guy's life is only worth 10 Galleons."
"Then think of it as doing a good deed or taking revenge for those he's harmed."
Lee Jordan recalled Albert's words and took out the Polyjuice Potion from his pocket. With George's help, they pried open Zack's mouth and poured the potion down his throat.
Zack's body soon underwent a violent transformation, turning him into an unfortunate Hufflepuff Muggle-born wizard.
Lupin waved his wand lightly, dressing Zack in a set of well-fitting clothes.
Sirius, on the other hand, used the Imperius Curse to control the Snatcher they had just captured, forcing him to cast the Avada Kedavra curse on Zack.
Yes, it was the Dark Wizard who did the killing, nothing to do with them.
"By the way, we went through all that trouble for just ten Galleons, right?"
As the green light of death faded, George looked at the unfortunate man, now confirmed dead by Lupin, and murmured, "Life really is cheap."
"Indeed, just ten Galleons for a life." Fred also felt like they had made a loss.
They had expended quite a bit of effort for this justified murder, and the reward was a mere ten Galleons, which they hadn't even received yet.
"Actually, we didn't just get ten Galleons." Lee Jordan shook the previous loot, "This is just a trial."
"If the Ministry of Magic were to collect Dark Wizards, the bounty would definitely be more than this. But now they're collecting Muggle-born wizards instead." Sirius shrugged, "But it's still worth it; the world is rid of a scumbag."
"By the way, do you think your Imperius Curse will be noticed by the Ministry? This guy looks a bit dazed to me." George knew that Sirius' words were meant to lessen their guilt. Although they hadn't cast the killing curse themselves, they had still participated in this justified murder.
"It doesn't matter. This guy is disposable anyway. Next time, we'll just use him directly!" Sirius didn't care at all. As long as they got the Galleons and confirmed that their method worked, it didn't matter if others suspected them.
As for guilt, they truly felt none, as the people they chose were all despicable and evil, their deaths benefiting everyone.
To avoid any complications, Sirius ordered the Snatcher under his control to take the body to the Ministry of Magic to claim the reward, and they had already prepared an excuse.
The Ministry official on duty was a bit grumpy about being woken up, and the two sides clearly knew each other, but after a brief exchange, he didn't seem suspicious, mainly because there was a body as evidence. He promptly paid the reward without hesitation.
Of course, the reason he was so agreeable was that he didn't care about this small achievement, so he wouldn't bring trouble upon himself by trying to take credit for it.
You also didn't want to mess with the Snatchers; taking their food would come at a cost.
