Chapter 1407: The Power of Love
Chapter 1407: The Power of Love
Ever since eavesdropping on that brief conversation between Harry and Albus, Ginny had been in a daze.
Although she had told Harry that she didn't regret their relationship, it was clear that Ginny was not emotionally prepared to handle the truth.
The cruel reality had crushed her.
Even her love for Harry seemed insufficient to help her find the strength to pull herself together.
There was no doubt that Ginny liked Harry.
However, upon learning that Harry might die soon, she found it incredibly difficult to accept, let alone understand why things had turned out this way.
Ginny had wanted to question Harry, to ask him why he had to be the one to die.
But seeing Harry's calm acceptance of his fate made her swallow her words.
For the first time, she despised the title of 'Savior' and what it entailed.
Once upon a time, she had admired Harry because of his status as the Chosen One, but now that same title was leading him to his death.
The hopelessness of the situation drove Ginny to the brink of madness, as the happiness she had finally grasped slipped through her fingers.
"Ginny, I'm coming in!"
Hermione knocked on the door and saw Ginny sitting on the bed, hugging her knees and sobbing uncontrollably. She offered a handkerchief and gently patted the red-haired girl's back, attempting to provide some comfort.
"Why did it have to turn out this way?" Ginny looked up at Hermione, her face streaked with tears.
"I'm sorry, I know this is difficult for you, but I thought you should know," Hermione murmured.
"Do the others know?" Ginny asked as she took the handkerchief and wiped her tears.
"No, Harry never intended to tell anyone," Hermione shook her head. "He wanted to bear it alone. I know he has accepted that he must die along with the Dark Lord."
"And you..."
"I asked Albert. He didn't hide it from me and told me directly," Hermione said sadly. "At that moment, I was just as devastated as you are now. The cruel truth crushed me."
"But why does it have to be this way? Why does Harry have to sacrifice himself?" Ginny looked at Hermione, her eyes pleading for an answer.
"I can only say that it's related to Dumbledore's mission and the destruction of Voldemort," Hermione spared Ginny from the most despairing reason.
If Ginny knew that in order to completely destroy Voldemort, Harry must die first, it would be too devastating for her to bear.
Ginny's mouth hung slightly open.
"Dumbledore knew this all along. He..."
"...gave Harry the choice. But there's no doubt that Harry also realized it during the course of completing Dumbledore's mission and made his decision silently."
They both knew what Harry had chosen.
"Is there really no other way?" Ginny asked again.
"It's a knot that can't be untied," Hermione replied with a bitter smile. "However, Albert said there's a slim chance that Harry could survive."
These words, like a ray of hope, made Ginny look up at Hermione intently.
"He didn't tell me the reason because he himself isn't sure," Hermione added, pouring cold water on the glimmer of hope that had just ignited within Ginny.
"What about divination? Isn't Albert skilled in that?" Ginny asked, her voice trembling as she thought of something.
"He didn't tell me the divination result, but I assume that's what it is," Hermione looked at Ginny, her lips quivering. "I hope you can awaken Harry's desire to live. If he faces the Dark Lord with the acceptance of death, I'm afraid they'll both perish."
"What should I do?" Ginny's eyes locked onto Hermione's, her voice determined. "I don't think I can stop Harry."
"No, it's about what you want to do," Hermione's lips trembled, hoping that Ginny could use the power of love to bring a glimmer of hope to Harry's survival.
Ginny was stunned.
This was a question she had never considered before.
"What do I want to do?"
It took Ginny several days to fully contemplate this question.
No, she had thought of it long ago, but she was just a little afraid.
She wanted to be with Harry, to be his girlfriend, maybe even his wife.
Yes, if it weren't for those strong feelings, she wouldn't have confessed to Harry when he was at his lowest point.
But what if Harry died and she was left alone? Ginny was terrified of that possibility! What should she do then?
Finally, Ginny made a decision and shared it with Hermione, knowing that she needed her help.
Not long after, with Hermione's assistance, Ginny succeeded in her ambush of Harry.
"It feels like I just had a sweet dream," Harry said, turning his head to look at the girl lying beside him, his heart filled with conflicting emotions.
After a long silence, he sighed softly, "You shouldn't have done that. You have a bright future ahead of you."
In that moment, Harry felt like a scoundrel, as he knew he might end up betraying a girl who liked him.
"Anderson will definitely defeat the Dark Lord," Ginny whispered. "You don't need to take the risk of facing him directly."
"There's a peculiar connection between us," Harry murmured, recalling the events of that fateful day. "When he killed my parents, the magic he used left certain after-effects. The lightning-shaped scar on my forehead linked our destinies together. If we want to completely destroy him, I will also die because of that connection."
Ginny froze once more.
"So, some things can't be avoided. This is probably fate," Harry said self-deprecatingly. "Dumbledore originally wanted Albert to tell me during the final battle, but I discovered it beforehand."
"Speaking of the Dark Lord, he's truly a fool. That idiot didn't realize that by killing me, he was attempting to murder himself. That's probably one of the reasons why I survived," Harry added.
"But Albert said..."
"Yes, he said there's a chance I could continue living, but it's merely a possibility. Instead of chasing that vague hope, I'd rather take the Dark Lord down with me," Harry shook his head with a smile. "I don't regret it, and I'm not afraid of death."
"Harry."
"Yes?"
"Let's have a baby!"
Ginny flipped over and pinned Harry beneath her.
Harry stared dumbfounded at the girl who had just uttered such absurd words. I want to be your wife, just like Albert and his wife.
Harry's lips trembled, but before he could say anything, his mouth was covered.
In the next room, Hermione sat in an armchair, gazing at the unconscious Ron lying on the bed. "I can only help you this far."
Hermione knew that what they were doing was absurd, but she truly had no better solution. As long as Harry survived, they could consider it a decent outcome.
Ginny could be said to have successfully married Harry.
As for Ron, Hermione knew that he probably wouldn't agree to such a ridiculous proposal and wouldn't want Ginny to stake her future on Harry.
So, all she could do was apologize to Ron.
