Chapter 1407: Motion Passed
Chapter 1407: Motion Passed
While Su Yu was busy reconstructing his organization, the "Supreme Council Meeting" at the Taling Hub was in full swing.
As the Speaker of the Taling Hub Council, Angly had initially planned to hold the meeting the next day. However, the current situation was too critical to delay any further. As soon as Su Yu left, all the council members were summoned to the hub council for an emergency meeting.
By the time Su Yu returned to Blue Star, the "Supreme Council Meeting" had already been ongoing for over six hours. After a heated debate, the meeting was nearing its conclusion.
Standing at the podium in the council chamber, Angly announced, "We have thoroughly discussed this matter, and everyone is now aware of the pros and cons. Let's proceed to the vote to decide whether to allocate the two trillion Psychic Coins to Su Yu."
Angly waved his hand, and a voting panel appeared in front of each council member.
During the six hours of debate, the council members had been in constant disagreement. Some believed the two trillion should be given to Su Yu to avoid the potential disaster if the Blue Whale AI successfully upgraded. Others thought Su Yu was a fraud, arguing that a Level 5 AI couldn't be upgraded so easily and that he was just trying to scam the council out of their money.
The debate had been intense, and the two sides remained evenly matched. Only a vote could decisively resolve the issue.
...
Seeing the voting panel, most council members cast their votes without hesitation. A few, however, remained indecisive, carefully weighing their options.
Angly quickly cast his vote on his panel. He voted in favor of giving Su Yu the two trillion Psychic Coins. His reasoning was straightforward: if the AI upgrade failed, the hub would lose 1.6 trillion Psychic Coins at most. But if the AI upgrade succeeded and they lost the bid for the Level 5 AI's usage rights, the backlash from the hub's residents would be unimaginable. Every council member who voted against it would be seen as a traitor to the hub.
It was better to lose 1.6 trillion than to bear such a heavy burden of guilt.
...
Twenty minutes later, the votes were tallied. The Taling Hub's Level 2 AI, "Holy Tower," announced the results in its mechanical voice: "Regarding the two trillion Psychic Coins, the final vote count is as follows: 473 votes in favor, 336 votes against, and 113 abstentions. The majority is in favor, so the motion is passed."
"Phew—" Angly let out a sigh of relief. It seemed many council members shared his perspective. The chamber below erupted into a buzz of discussion. Many had opposed the motion during the debate, but it turned out the majority supported it.
However, a rough voice sounded from behind the podium. It was a mature male voice, but it didn't sound human: "Since the vote has been decided, I will not continue to oppose it. However, I request seven days to personally investigate Su Yu at the Feg Hub. I must be responsible for the two trillion Psychic Coins."
Speaker Angly didn't need to turn around to know who was speaking. It was Derek Winter, one of the 22 Stellar Core council members. Derek had been the most vocal opponent of the motion.
It's worth noting that Derek was the one who had bid 5 trillion Psychic Coins for Su Yu's "Lerin's Feather" at the last auction. However, his stance on this motion was unrelated to that past event.
Without turning around, Angly replied, "Very well, you have seven days."
Then, he addressed the entire assembly, "Since a Stellar Core council member has spoken, we will wait seven days before making the final decision. However, the motion is provisionally approved. Unless Councilor Winter finds any subversive evidence, the motion will be executed as decided."
