Chapter 140: The Mission Begins
Chapter 140: The Mission Begins
"So you're my partner?" Jiang Cheng blurted out after a moment.
After all, everyone knew Nightingale's personality; she wouldn't have called him for no reason.
So, there was only one explanation.
Nightingale hummed in agreement, "I happen to have some free time these days. I've looked over your mission, and it seems pretty good. But before we start, I need to confirm something with you. If I agree to help, I'll be taking ninety percent of the spoils. You should know that, right? If you're not clear about it, I suggest you think it over carefully. You can always ask someone else for help."
"I understand, and this is a decision I've made after careful consideration," Jiang Cheng replied earnestly.
"Good." Nightingale breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
"In my opinion, we shouldn't delay. Let's start tonight," she suggested.
"Tonight?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Yes, to prevent any unexpected complications. If someone else catches his attention first, it'll be troublesome. Don't worry, with me here, there won't be any surprises," Nightingale assured him, her voice cold but exuding confidence.
"Okay," Jiang Cheng agreed without further ado. After all, he was just there to cheer her on.
"Should we meet up and discuss the details?" he asked.
"No need," Nightingale declined directly. "I'll handle everything. Meet me at the Task Center at 7 PM, and if we're quick, we can finish in an hour."
Without waiting for a response, she hung up.
"She's really confident," Jiang Cheng thought, looking at his phone with a mix of laughter and exasperation.
However, with everything arranged by his partner, he was happy to enjoy his leisure time. He decided to use this opportunity to improve his firearm proficiency, aiming for perfection.
"I didn't expect Nightingale to be a Fifth-Rank Mind Master. That Red-haired Lady, he must be at least a Fifth-Rank too."
Jiang Cheng's mind wandered as he continued practicing his shooting skills.
Several hours passed.
With a bullet hitting the bullseye, his firearm proficiency finally reached perfection.
As an overwhelming amount of information flooded his mind, Jiang Cheng felt like he had fired over a hundred thousand bullets.
From shooting stance to aiming techniques, from breath control to rapid follow-up shots, everything seemed etched into his bones.
Whether standing still and shooting, quick drawing, or shooting while moving, every bullet found its mark at the center of the target.
A smile appeared on Jiang Cheng's face.
He now considered himself a marksman, always ready for action, even after a period of inactivity.
With this level of skill, he could take a heavy sniper rifle and assassinate Fifth or Sixth-Rank Primordial Energy Warriors.
Of course, even with this ability, he wouldn't dare attempt it. Snipers faced challenges beyond just ensuring a one-shot kill; escaping undetected after the assassination was an even greater difficulty.
Glancing at the time, he realized it was not yet 6 PM. He wished he had brought his Visualization Chart, but it was still beneficial to refine his spirit energy and improve his Crystal Shattering Technique proficiency.
After dinner and some cultivation, Jiang Cheng arrived at the Task Center early.
Soon, a woman with a cold and elegant demeanor approached, followed by a man who seemed to be trying to curry favor with her. But upon seeing Jiang Cheng, the man's smile vanished.
"Are you the new guy called Sea of Stars?" he asked in a condescending tone.
"Yes, I am. And you are?" Jiang Cheng replied.
Jiang Cheng glanced at the man.
"I'm Coke, a Third Rank Force Warrior." The man puffed out his chest proudly.
Jiang Cheng looked at him and then at Nightingale.
"He lives in the same neighborhood as the target. With him leading the way, we can avoid a lot of trouble." Nightingale explained briefly.
Jiang Cheng gave her a thumbs up upon hearing this.
Nightingale, being a Fifth Rank Mind Master, had connections within the society that a newcomer like him couldn't match.
"Nightingale Sister," Coke said in a fawning tone, "Can I join you on this mission? I won't ask for any money."
"No need." Nightingale rejected him without hesitation.
"Night..."
"Hmm?" Nightingale furrowed her brows.
"Understood." Coke's enthusiasm instantly deflated.
Jiang Cheng almost laughed out loud at the sight.
"Were you laughing at me just now?" Coke noticed and turned to Jiang Cheng.
"No." Jiang Cheng quickly suppressed the smile and shook his head.
"Nonsense! I clearly saw you laughing just now!" Coke was agitated.
Jiang Cheng simply shook his head, remaining silent.
"You!"
"Alright." Nightingale glared at him, "Take us there now."
"Okay! Okay!" Coke hurriedly agreed.
The three of them took the elevator to the ground floor and entered a black SUV, heading towards the target neighborhood.
It was just a short drive of over ten minutes to reach their destination.
Jiang Cheng looked up at the fence surrounding the neighborhood; it was about four to five meters high, and there seemed to be barbed wire installed on top, shimmering under the lights.
At the entrance of the neighborhood stood three or four guards. Although they didn't carry weapons, their bulging waistlines indicated that they were likely armed.
Coke drove up to the gate, paused for a moment, and the gate opened. Two guards even saluted as they passed by.
The car entered the neighborhood.
"We're in." Jiang Cheng was a bit surprised.
But it made sense; Coke was a resident, and it would be unreasonable for a resident to undergo the same scrutiny as a suspect when entering or exiting the neighborhood.
It was already night, and many villas were still lit up. Occasionally, patrolling guards could be seen passing by.
Coke drove slowly, pointing to a two-story villa on the left, "That's number 32, where the guy named Yue Shan lives."
Jiang Cheng followed Coke's finger.
The villa was also lit up, its main door locked. Through the windows, they could see several shadows inside.
As they got closer, they spotted the villa's house number—32, matching the one mentioned in the task.
"Find a secluded spot to stop." Nightingale said as she put on her mask.
"Are we going to take action now?" Jiang Cheng looked at her in surprise.
There were people in the living room, and quite a few of them.
"With everyone gathered, it's the perfect time to strike." Nightingale glanced at Jiang Cheng, her eyes unusually calm.
"Alright." Jiang Cheng let out a bitter laugh.
Indeed, the strength of the two sides was not on the same level.
That day, over thirty or forty members of the Iron Fist Gang, including a First Rank Force Warrior, had been felled in a pool of blood in an instant.
There were only a few people in that villa, and even if there were two young gang members with handguns, they probably wouldn't have had time to draw their weapons before being pierced through the heart by steel needles.
Suddenly, he thought of something and said,
"Nightingale, can we spare the women and children inside the house for now?"
