Chapter 140: Itachi's Birthday
Chapter 140: Itachi's Birthday
"It's Friday!" Obito answered eagerly.
"Tomorrow is Thursday, and I don't think Teacher Mu Yue is asking about the day of the week," Hinata corrected.
She felt that Mu Yue wouldn't be the type to forget the day of the week and need to ask her students. Besides, asking about the day of the week didn't seem like a reason to call three people over.
"I've been relying on Shadow Clones for school lately, so I haven't really paid attention to the dates. I just realized today is Wednesday," Obito said with a chuckle, scratching his head.
"Could it be a discount day at the barbecue restaurant? Or an anniversary of becoming a teacher?" Obito continued guessing.
"Are we going to learn a new super powerful forbidden jutsu?" Might Guy guessed.
"Probably not," said Obito. "We haven't even mastered the breathing technique yet, and Itachi doesn't seem to be here."
"Tomorrow is Itachi's birthday," Mu Yue said, deciding not to beat around the bush.
"I purposely didn't call Itachi, so we can surprise him tomorrow," Mu Yue explained with a smile.
While being direct was good, Mu Yue believed that a sudden surprise would bring greater results. Extreme emotions might even lead to an unprecedented 'critical hit', resulting in the mastery of a skill beyond the Proficient level.
"So it's Itachi's birthday," Obito said, looking enlightened.
"It's tomorrow? Why didn't he tell us in advance?" Obito scratched his head, confused.
He felt that even starting the preparations that night might be cutting it close.
"Maybe he didn't want to trouble others," Hinata said after thinking about it.
She had joined the group later and hadn't known Itachi as long as Might Guy and Obito, but it had still been about two months.
Itachi gave her the impression of someone who would quietly accomplish tasks on his own without bothering others.
During their usual training, Itachi tended to do his own research and only sought Mu Yue's help when he truly couldn't figure something out. This was very different from Obito, who would quickly turn to Mu Yue whenever he had a question.
"How could it be a trouble? Helping a friend celebrate their birthday is only natural," Obito said, even more confused.
"Let's not discuss this for now," Mu Yue said. "Let's talk about how we're going to help Itachi celebrate his birthday."
Obito's personality made it difficult for him to understand Itachi's actions at this point.
"Let's buy a birthday cake," Obito suggested.
"I'll get him a nice set of training clothes," Might Guy said excitedly.
"Since we want it to be a surprise, let's keep it a secret until the last moment. We can decorate Itachi's room with birthday decorations beforehand," Hinata suggested.
"Since Itachi spends his days here with Teacher Mu Yue and doesn't go home, it should be easy to do," she added.
Mu Yue nodded. When it came to daily life, Itachi and Hinata were the more reliable ones, while Obito and Might Guy were the jokers.
"I just don't know where Itachi lives," Hinata continued.
"I know, I know!" Obito volunteered.
Both he and Itachi were from the Uchiha clan and lived in the Uchiha clan's territory. Their homes weren't actually that far apart.
"Then it's settled," Mu Yue said after a moment of thought. "Tomorrow, everyone will act like they're normally training, and then we'll take turns decorating the room. Finally, we'll surprise Itachi when he returns in the evening."
The disciples nodded in agreement.
After the discussion, everyone returned to their respective homes.
...
The next day, Itachi woke up as usual and, after finishing his morning routine, created a Shadow Clone to go to school.
"Take good care of Tobirama. He's younger than you," his grandmother reminded him.
After several visits, Izuna's grandmother had also come to know Tobirama.
"I know," Izuna replied, even though he felt that Tobirama didn't need his care at all.
"What do you want for breakfast? Should we have Mr. Hand-Burn's pancakes or go out for dumplings?" Izuna asked.
"Whatever you feel like eating, Izuna. I'm fine with either," Tobirama answered.
Unless it was a choice between Moony cuisine and non-Moony cuisine, Tobirama would opt for whatever his companion preferred.
"Then let's go to Mr. Hand-Burn's place. It's closer, and we haven't been there in a few days," Izuna decided.
Even in the Uchiha clan, a ninja family, there were some who chose not to become ninjas and lived ordinary lives. The 'Hand-Burn' that Izuna spoke of was one such person, his full name being Uchiha Hand-Burn, and he owned a pancake shop.
As the two ate their pancakes, they made their way towards the Southern Forest, and along the way, they helped an elderly grandmother who had fallen down.
"Teacher Moony," the two greeted Moony upon their arrival and began their training.
Izuna continued to refine his one-handed sealing technique, while Tobirama practiced his All-Concentration Breathing.
"Focus, and focus again," Tobirama said to himself as he ran, controlling his breathing rhythm and chakra to increase his speed.
Using chakra and breathing techniques simultaneously took a toll on Tobirama's stamina, and he soon had to stop to catch his breath.
"The burst of strength still isn't enough. I need to keep training," Tobirama thought to himself as he rested, reflecting on his recent training session.
His All-Concentration Breathing still lacked focus, and he couldn't achieve the burst effect that Moony had described.
While Tobirama rested, Izuna approached him to inquire about his insights into the one-handed sealing technique.
"If you were to receive a gift, Tobirama, what kind of gift would you like?" Izuna asked.
"A gift? Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?" Tobirama was puzzled by Izuna's sudden shift in topic from ninjutsu to gifts.
Noticing Tobirama's confusion, Izuna worried that he might have suspected something. He quickly added, "Oh, it's just that I've been troubling you a lot lately, and I was thinking of getting you something. Or is there anything you'd like to eat? Like ramen, perhaps?"
"It's fine, Izuna. It's just mutual help between companions," Tobirama replied.
Due to Izuna's usual carefree demeanor, Tobirama didn't suspect anything out of the ordinary.
Later, Izuna was tapped on the head by one of Moony's shadow clones for not paying enough attention to his training.
At noon, Izuna's shadow clone led Moony, Yahiko, and the others to Tobirama's house.
"Does Tobirama live alone in such a big place?" Might Guy wondered aloud as he entered, noticing that the house was three times the size of his own home.
"It was probably built during the early days of the village's construction," Yahiko, who excelled in history, recalled similar buildings from her textbooks.
"Never mind that. Let's get started with the preparations. We don't have much time before classes begin," Izuna said.
"Be careful not to damage anything in Tobirama's house while setting up," Moony reminded them.
He had chosen items that would be easy to clean up later, making it quicker to tidy up after the celebration.
