Chapter 140: Hammer from the Heavens (Third Update)
Chapter 140: Hammer from the Heavens (Third Update)
Late at night, in Jerry's room.
"Thirty thousand! It's really necessary to participate in such major events to get enough Little Red Stars!"
Looking at the number of Little Red Stars on his Panel, which had increased by thirty thousand during the Robot Riot, Jerry couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
He knew that the side effects of his "Brain Booster" were becoming less and less severe, and he had been focusing on studying Magic and developing his bloodline to enhance his magic power. As a result, he hadn't been out much to fight crime.
This had led to his Little Red Stars remaining in a state of constant depletion. Although the process was a bit dangerous this time, the reward was unexpectedly generous.
So, he couldn't help but marvel at it.
While Little Red Stars couldn't directly increase Jerry's strength, they were the most important resource for him.
Without Little Red Stars, his efficiency in learning Magic would significantly decrease, and without them, he wouldn't be able to go to the Mini World to improve himself.
Especially since the cooldown for the Mini World was ending in just two days, he planned to spend a good amount of time in the Harry Potter Mini World this time.
Due to his last return, he had bought a large number of spellbooks, including textbooks from all seven years, which had allowed him to learn a lot of advanced spells.
However, he had only learned them; his understanding and use of many of these spells were still lacking.
For example, during the robot confrontation, the best spell to use would have been a Transfiguration Charm. If he could transform key parts of those robots into other materials, he could easily resolve the battle.
Unfortunately, he had been learning too much Magic recently and hadn't spent enough time on Transfiguration, which made it impossible for him to precisely transform those complex and sturdy robots.
Self-studying Magic always left him somewhat lacking. To quickly improve his magical power, he needed the careful guidance of a teacher.
The Magic he had learned from the Sorcerer's Apprentice world was currently being guided by Sun Long, which was sufficient for now.
However, the Magic from the Harry Potter world still required him to go to Hogwarts and study in depth with the professors.
With his thoughts clear, Jerry changed into his wizard robe and flew on his broom towards Hell's Kitchen.
"It's been a while since I've been out. I'm sure Hell's Kitchen is bustling with activity again by now!"
Two days later, at the New York S.H.I.E.L.D. Branch.
Black Widow placed two files on Nick Fury's desk.
"The first file is the complete report on the Robot Riot at the Queens Exhibition Hall. The second file is a personality assessment of Tony Stark!"
Fury carefully read through both files and then asked Black Widow detailed questions about the specifics. After some thought, he replied:
"Contact Tony Stark and ask him to come here tomorrow morning. I need to talk to him about something!"
Black Widow nodded, turned, and left the office in her black catsuit.
After Black Widow left, Fury leaned back in his chair and slowly closed his eyes.
About half an hour later, he suddenly opened his eyes, pressed a button on his desk, and spoke into a microphone:
"Notify Agent Maria Hill to come to my office!"
Five minutes later,
"Director, you wanted to see me?"
Agent Hill, dressed in her combat suit, entered the office with her usual efficiency.
"How is Captain America doing?"
Fury wasted no time on pleasantries and got straight to the point.
Hill's face broke into a smile.
"According to our experts, it seems that either the ice or the Super Soldier Serum, or both, have preserved Captain America's vital signs. Despite being frozen for 70 years, his life signs are still very strong. If everything goes as planned, once we thaw him out and give him some time to recover, Captain America should be back to his full strength!"
"Excellent, very good indeed!"
Fury's typically stern face finally broke into a broad smile.
The formation of the Avengers has not been going smoothly so far. Apart from Hawkeye and Black Widow, who were already confirmed as members, the other candidates—Hulk, Iron Man, and the wizard—each had their own issues.
Hulk was uncontrollable and might end up sacrificing his teammates before the enemy. According to Black Widow, Iron Man was impulsive and extremely narcissistic. The wizard, on the other hand, was excellent in many ways. Previously, his young age made him a suitable support role, but he has shown remarkable combat skills. However, the wizard seems to have significant distrust towards S.H.I.E.L.D. and goes to great lengths to hide his true identity, making him reluctant to join.
The unexpected discovery of Captain America was a huge surprise for Fury. Captain America met all the criteria for an Avenger, and the team needed a leader. The role of Captain did not require the strongest combat abilities but rather strong leadership and tactical command skills. Captain America had fought against Hydra and led the Howling Commandos to numerous victories, ultimately sacrificing himself to prevent New York from being destroyed by a nuclear bomb.
"I will personally handle Captain America from here on. Try to find a way to contact the wizard; I have something I want to discuss with him."
"Is this about the 'Hammer from the Heavens' that Agent Coulson reported?"
Hill guessed the reason as soon as Fury mentioned the wizard.
Fury nodded.
"That hammer is no simple object. We've tried everything, but we can't move it at all. Even our most advanced technology and the best experts can't explain it. I suspect it might have something to do with magic."
Before, Fury might not have considered such a possibility, but after interacting with the wizard and witnessing his scientifically inexplicable magic, he realized that some things might need a magical explanation.
"Contacting the wizard might have to wait until after midnight. We don't have a quick way to reach him!"
Hill shrugged helplessly.
The wizard's true identity was unknown, so the only way to contact him was to stake out Hell's Kitchen after midnight.
"Maybe this time, you should ask her for a phone number!"
"Unfortunately, I doubt this young one will give it to us."
Fury chuckled bitterly.
Despite his young age, the wizard was shrewd. He knew that once they had his number, his true identity would be impossible to hide.
