Chapter 14: Troubled Flying Lesson (Part 1)
Chapter 14: Troubled Flying Lesson (Part 1)
When exploration tasks reach a certain level, there are additional rewards?
Ivan was somewhat curious. The reward wasn't directly given; instead, he had to go to the Restricted Section in the middle of the night, a process that always gave Ivan the creeps.
But since it was a reward, Ivan decided to go for it. After all, he had seen ghosts and spirits before; what was there to be afraid of at night?
In the Great Hall, Harry and Ron were sitting at a round table, eating lunch. When they saw Ivan standing there in a daze, they quickly called out to him.
"Ivan, over here!"
"Where were you this morning? You look so exhausted", Harry said, noticing Ivan's drained appearance.
"Just found a place to practice some Spells", Ivan rolled his eyes, spearing a piece of roasted sausage with his fork and shoving it into his mouth. He had been burning through his energy all morning and hadn't eaten anything, nearly starving to death.
After so many days, Ivan was experiencing such intense magical expenditure for the first time. He still felt a bit dizzy even now.
Ivan gorged himself in the Great Hall, while Harry and Ron excitedly discussed flying techniques.
After listening to them for a while, Ivan remembered that there was a Flying Lesson in the afternoon, which piqued his interest a little.
After all, flying was almost everyone's dream, even if it meant riding a broomstick.
Over at Slytherin House, things were even more lively. Draco Malfoy, surrounded and flanked by his peers, boasted loudly about his past flying experiences.
"Before coming to Hogwarts, I already knew how to ride a broomstick. My dad took me on a flight back home once, and we even encountered a Muggle airplane. If I hadn't dodged quickly, I would have crashed it!" Draco boasted with a self-satisfied grin.
Ivan nearly spat out the sheep's milk he had just sipped.
Crash an airplane? If you're that good, why don't you just fly to the moon?
Flying that high with no protection, you'd probably freeze to death.
"Ivan, have you ever ridden a broomstick before?" Harry asked, annoyed by Draco's boasting. Seeing Ivan's strong reaction, he quickly inquired.
"No", Ivan shook his head resolutely. Even if he had learned before, he had forgotten.
"What about you, Ron?" Harry asked, hoping for a positive response.
Ron didn't disappoint, enthusiastically recounting his experiences practicing with Charlie's old broomstick at home.
Ivan listened quietly to Ron and Draco's boasts. After all, once they got to the Flying Lesson, their true abilities would be revealed.
Sure enough, during the afternoon Flying Lesson, when Madam Hooch blew her whistle, only Harry among the twenty-odd young Wizards managed to summon his broom from the ground to his hand immediately.
Draco Malfoy, who had boasted about nearly crashing an airplane, was a step behind Harry. Fortunately, the broom eventually flew into Draco's hand, saving him from losing face in front of Harry.
Ron, however, wasn't so lucky. Perhaps because he shouted too loudly, the broom shot up and hit him squarely in the forehead.
"Up!" Ivan shouted, mimicking Madam Hooch's demonstration, but the broom just lazily spun on the ground, showing no intention of rising.
Ivan was anxious and couldn't help but regret not reading more flying books or practicing more to improve his skills.
It wasn't until Madam Hooch finished her round and turned back that Ivan had a sudden idea. He used his foot to hook the broomstick and gently kicked it into his hand, becoming the third student to grab a magical broomstick.
Madam Hooch, seeing Ivan hold the broomstick steadily, nodded in approval and moved on to instruct the other students.
Harry looked at Ivan's slick move with wide eyes. Ivan put his hand to his mouth and made a shushing gesture, feeling a bit relieved. At least he wouldn't get a poor evaluation in this class.
As long as he had Academic Points, riding a broomstick would be a piece of cake.
However, Ivan had been complaining for a long time about the System having only the Scholar Experience Card as an exchange option.
Why wasn't there anything to enhance his talents?
He was just an average student. What if someone saw through his act as a scholar? Where would he get more Academic Points then?
To ensure his class evaluation, Ivan imagined hundreds of cool riding techniques and potential problems he might encounter during flight while Madam Hooch was instructing the other students.
He also prayed that the old broomstick would at least give him some face. If it didn't fly when he tried, it would be incredibly embarrassing.
"Everyone, pay attention. I'll only demonstrate this once", Madam Hooch said after everyone had their broomsticks firmly in hand. She walked to the front and showed the correct riding posture.
"Once I blow the whistle, you all need to kick off the ground with force. Remember to hold your broomsticks tightly and try to rise a few feet."
Madam Hooch loudly directed the students, and Ivan also mounted his broomstick, preparing for his first high-altitude flight.
However, before Ivan could even try, Neville had already shot into the air with a loud scream from a few feet away.
"Ah! Ah! Ah~"
Neville flew at least twenty feet high, causing chaos among the young Wizards below. Ivan remembered that Neville would fall and quickly drew his wand.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ivan cast a Levitation Charm at Neville, who was plummeting from the sky.
The magical force instantly stopped Neville's fall, suspending him in the air about ten feet high.
Madam Hooch's heart, which had been racing, finally calmed down. Heaven only knew how worried she had been. If anything had happened to Neville during her Flying Lesson, she wouldn't have been able to face the rest of Hogwarts.
"Good job, ten points to Gryffindor!" Madam Hooch praised Ivan with a glance.
At the same time, Ivan received a notification that his Academic Points had increased, making him feel a bit relieved.
The Gryffindor students, led by Harry and Ron, began to applaud.
However, before the clapping had even started, Neville fell from the air.
The situation was incredibly awkward.
"Sorry, Madam Hooch, my magic seems to be exhausted", Ivan said with a forced smile, shrugging helplessly. He had practiced Spells all morning, and it was already impressive that he had managed to catch Neville in mid-fall.
At least he had the Academic Points. If they deducted the five points, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
