Chapter 14: The Combat Use of Little Red Stars
Chapter 14: The Combat Use of Little Red Stars
"Smith, I think it’s best to just take one as a hostage, just in case. The others are a burden to carry around!"
The first robber clearly understood the boss's thoughts and made a reasonable suggestion.
Smith thought for a moment and nodded, then began selecting from the group of children in the car.
Miss Berry, who was being held at gunpoint by Smith, trembled and raised her hand.
"Use me as a hostage. They’re just children, and if they start crying, it will be hard to calm them down!"
Miss Berry’s speech was stammering, clearly indicating her fear.
Meanwhile, the driver, Paul, lowered his head even more. He had a family to support, including his children, wife, and parents. Despite feeling guilty, he was unwilling to take the lead.
"Hmm, that makes sense!"
Smith was clearly convinced by Miss Berry’s words.
While taking a child would ensure they wouldn’t resist, the potential for crying and fussing would be a problem. They needed a hostage to prevent the police from catching up, and killing a child would be too extreme.
"Smith, I think this is a good idea!"
The other two robbers, eyeing Miss Berry’s attractive features and curvaceous figure, flashed a sinister smile.
Miss Berry’s body trembled at their gaze, but she didn’t say anything more, standing obediently next to Smith.
"Ah!"
Jerry, who had been observing the situation from the back, sighed and slowly stood up.
"I think it’s best if you take me as a hostage. My father is the sheriff of Queens, and he might be in charge of the pursuit. I’m just a child, completely harmless, and very obedient!"
Miss Berry was a dedicated and loving teacher, and Jerry didn’t want her to fall into the hands of the robbers.
More importantly, by leaving with the robbers, he could act freely without worrying about the consequences. So, he stood up voluntarily.
"Jerry, what are you saying? Sit down! Mr. Paul will take you all home soon!"
Miss Berry’s face changed when she saw Jerry stand up.
Jerry was a well-known good student, excelling academically and morally, and she was very fond of him.
Seeing Jerry offer to take her place as a hostage, she felt both moved and anxious.
On the other hand, Smith, upon hearing that Jerry was the sheriff’s son, immediately turned to look at him.
Having the sheriff’s son as a hostage would be more intimidating to the police than a regular elementary school teacher. Plus, a child was safer and less likely to resist than an adult woman.
"Bring him over!"
Smith ordered one of the robbers.
"Smith, I still think the woman is a better choice!"
The robber puffed out his cheeks, clearly harboring other thoughts.
Smith, knowing his subordinate well, kicked him.
"Once we have the money, any woman will do. Quickly take the sheriff’s kid, and let’s get out of here!"
"Brother!"
Elsa, seeing the robber approach her brother Jerry, realized something was wrong and grabbed his hand in fear.
Though she could be a bit scatterbrained and somewhat naive, she wasn’t stupid. She understood that if her brother was taken, something bad might happen.
“Elsa, big brother is going to send these little devils back to hell. I’ll be back soon, so listen to Miss Berry. Don’t worry, I’m the Demonic Overlord!”
Jerry let go of Elsa’s hand, then winked at her before walking over to the robber.
“Brat, behave yourself on the way, or don’t blame me for busting your head open!”
As they stepped off the school bus, the robber who had been angry earlier kicked Jerry’s butt, but Jerry nimbly jumped forward to dodge it.
When the robber tried to kick again, he was scolded by the leader, Smith.
The four robbers escorted Jerry off the school bus, then used their assault rifles to shoot out all four tires before heading into a nearby grove of trees.
Before long, they arrived at a black Suv that had been prepared in advance.
“Looks like they were well-prepared!”
Jerry sat in the back of the Suv, flanked by two burly robbers, and inwardly sighed.
The Suv started up, made a few turns through the grove, and then emerged onto a hidden road. After a short drive, it merged with the main traffic and vanished without a trace.
An hour later, a black Suv slowly pulled up in front of an old warehouse in the suburbs.
The four robbers, carrying a large bag of dollars they had stolen from the bank, escorted Jerry into the warehouse.
“Click!”
Jerry watched as the wooden door was locked and muttered to himself:
“Looks like they don’t plan on leaving any witnesses. Don’t blame me then!”
As soon as he entered the warehouse, he saw the four robbers take off their masks, and he knew that they had already subconsciously decided his fate.
For now, their minds were still filled with the joy of a successful escape and the thrill of their loot.
But once they realized the situation, it would be his end.
“Strike first, or be struck down. If not now, when?”
Hearing the robbers laugh heartily over their bag of dollars, Jerry knew this was the moment when their guard was lowest and the best time for him to act.
“Flavordus!”
Pulling out the wand from his pants, Jerry cast a transfiguration charm on a broken chair leg he found in the room, turning it into a sharp dagger.
At his current level of transfiguration, the dagger should last about ten minutes, which should be enough.
“Alohomora!”
He pointed his wand at the locked wooden door, and the lock clicked open. Jerry, wand in his left hand and dagger in his right, carefully pushed the door open and crept out.
The old warehouse was cluttered with useless junk, providing plenty of cover for Jerry to hide behind.
In the center of the warehouse, the four robbers were happily drinking beer and counting the cash in the large bag, clearly in the midst of a joyful division of their loot.
“Use Little Red Stars!”
Instead of casting a spell on the robbers, Jerry first activated the “Brain Booster” function on his panel.
Thanks to his nightly acts of kindness in town and the final night when he prevented a robbery, he had successfully accumulated over fifty Little Red Stars.
With over fifty stars, the “Brain Booster” function could last for over fifty minutes.
