Chapter 139: Using Magic to Defeat Magic
Chapter 139: Using Magic to Defeat Magic
"Are you sure you don't want to choose me?"
"Do I have a reason to choose you?"
"I'm a transgender vegetarian who supports LGBT rights, of Asian and Black mixed heritage, born with a disability, and grew up in a refugee camp in the Middle East!"
The black woman in front of Luk, with piercings in her ears and nose and a smoky eye makeup, looked at him with a dazed and seductive gaze, as if she was about to devour him.
"If you dare not let me pass the interview, you'll regret it."
Luk: ...
What powerful magic!
The magic in Kamar-Taj's library paled in comparison to this woman's.
Luk took a deep breath and decided to use magic to counter magic.
"As for me, I am biologically male but identify as female, suffering from gender dysphoria. I also like to wear men's clothing, making me a transvestite. And because I like women, I'm a lesbian. I am exactly the kind of person you need to protect and support."
The woman clearly didn't expect a magical showdown and stood there, bewildered and at a loss.
"Additionally, I am a member of an extreme animal welfare association. I have adopted two small, pitiful, and helpless stray dogs, Blacky!"
A large black dog yawned and responded to the call, biting the woman's pant leg and dragging her out amidst her screams.
Luk leaned back in his chair, tapping his head.
Hiring in America was more difficult than he imagined. He thought the hippie who sang, danced, and rapped was the limit, but there were still more formidable contenders.
"Arf~"
The small white jade dog in his arms made a sound, drawing his attention. Luk petted the dog a couple of times and placed it on the ground. He walked to the glass window and gazed at the glittering buildings below.
This was a skyscraper in the heart of Manhattan, near Stark Tower.
Tony's actions were swift. He had found the perfect location for the clinic in less than a day. Initially, Tony offered to give Luk an entire floor of Stark Tower, but Luk declined.
That place was a Marvel disaster hotspot, and Luk didn't want to worry about his home being blown up. He had no interest in protecting a building with such a strong personal mark.
A few days later at the Las Vegas award ceremony, Tony surprisingly showed up and honestly accepted the award, reading a prepared speech to the audience.
For someone with his personality, such a positive attitude was rare.
He responded to the media's insomnia-inducing reports about "Sonic Stark" by claiming they were malicious rumors. He then chose a beautiful blonde reporter to spend the night with, in front of everyone.
Three hours later, Tony left with a steady gait and a proud head, dispelling the "Sonic Stark" legend.
Some rumors suggested he had been treated by a very skilled doctor, but due to lack of evidence, these "rumors" were quickly dismissed.
Only the top billionaires, business tycoons, and certain influential figures who attended Tony's private parties knew he had a friend who was a stunningly handsome and exceptionally talented doctor.
Tony's open admiration for Luk made others take notice. This man, who always put himself first, rarely praised someone so openly.
With his endorsement, others confirmed that Luk was a top-tier doctor and eagerly handed him their business cards and smiles. No one wants to get sick, and knowing a great doctor is a profitable investment.
Luk's name quickly made it to the white lists of various industries. However, what left him speechless was that most of the wealthy clients who came to him for treatment didn't have serious injuries or chronic diseases.
They all had issues due to a chaotic and indulgent lifestyle!
It was clear that the rich played hard.
Recalling the "Hundred Group Battle" and "Summit War" of the Draconic Luk, Luk shook his head. By living like that, ordinary people would indeed run into problems.
For these clients, Luk wouldn't show off his dual-skilled hands like he did with Tony. Instead, he chose to knock them out, treat their bodies, and play on his phone while waiting. When the time was right, he would wake them up and send them on their way.
All the influential figures who received treatment praised Luk highly, spreading his name in their circles, which only increased his fame and the number of people seeking appointments.
Given this situation, it was only natural for Luk to hire an assistant.
"So, the next applicant is..."
Luk flipped through the resume in his hand, a smile playing on his lips.
Finally, the expected force had arrived.
"Natalia Romanoff, 24 years old, 160 cm tall, 48 kg, graduated from Harvard Medical School with excellent grades and outstanding abilities, fluent in multiple languages, and exceptional administrative skills..."
The photo on the resume showed a very proper and gentle Natalia, a stark contrast to the image in his memory, making Luk marvel at her acting and makeup skills.
A knock sounded at the door, and Luk put down the resume.
"Come in."
Natalia, wearing black-rimmed glasses and with her beautiful features slightly softened to show a gentle demeanor, pushed the door open. She looked at Luk's face, her expression faltering for a moment before she blushed and looked down, speaking shyly.
"Hello, I'm here for the interview, Natalia."
"Hello, I'm Luk. Please introduce yourself briefly."
"Sure, Mr. Luk."
Natalia cleared her throat and recited five minutes of fabricated information, speaking clearly and calmly, displaying her professionalism while subtly mentioning her family background.
Living with a gambling father, a sick mother, a school-going sister, and a broken home, Natasha often highlighted her hardships, feeling unloved and pitied by no one.
Planning to create a public persona of a saintly figure dedicated to saving the world and contributing to all of humanity, Luk naturally wouldn't refuse a girl with such a tragic backstory.
"I have a lot of varied tasks here, so it might not be particularly easy."
"I can handle it, Mr. Luk. I used to work three jobs a day by scheduling them at different times."
"You're hired, Miss Natasha. I'm glad to have you on board."
Luk stood up and extended his hand, and Natasha, blushing, took it.
They shook hands formally, and then Luk released her hand and began to introduce her to her new duties.
"You'll need to answer incoming calls, ensure none are missed, and manage patient appointments. When patients with appointments arrive, you'll escort them to the examination room."
"Understood, sir."
Natasha pulled out a notebook and began to take notes seriously.
"During your downtime, you'll need to maintain the cleanliness here. It won't be too much work; you can clean every two or three days."
"Sir, with these two dogs around, it might be better to clean more frequently. Dogs have a lot of energy and can easily damage furniture. Their fur can also spread around the house, and if they have an accident, it needs to be cleaned up promptly."
Natasha pointed to the two dogs by Luk's pant leg.
Hearing Natasha's words, the black and white dogs perked up and looked at her with slightly displeased eyes.
This human-like reaction made Natasha step back, a glint of curiosity in her eyes.
Luk squatted down and patted the dogs' heads to calm them. "Don't worry, they're very well-behaved and won't destroy furniture. They don't shed much and can go to the bathroom on their own. You don't need to worry about them."
"Go to the bathroom on their own?"
"They're very smart."
Natasha pushed up her glasses, her eyes showing a hint of longing. "Sir, may I pet your dogs? They look very cute."
"Of course, feel free."
Luk nodded, his warm smile making Natasha glance away.
She approached White and tentatively petted its head.
Under its owner's command, White didn't resist, just glanced at the human female and closed its eyes, out of sight, out of mind.
The soft fur felt wonderful under Natasha's hand, and she stroked it a few more times before reluctantly letting go.
"They're very cute."
"Thank you, Miss Natasha."
Next, Luk gave Natasha a quick tour of the clinic's interior.
"Work hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM, with a break from 12 PM to 2 PM. You'll have weekends off, and there's generally no overtime. Miss Natasha, do you have any other questions?"
Natasha lowered her head slightly, her voice hesitant. "If I must ask, Mr. Luk, do you have a girlfriend?"
"Not at the moment."
Natasha's face lit up with a charming smile. She stepped forward, tiptoed, and placed a light kiss on Luk's cheek.
"This is to thank you for hiring me."
With that, she blushed and ran off, quickly disappearing around the corner.
Luk touched the spot where she had kissed him, feeling the soft touch and a faint, pleasant scent. It was a nice perk...
If it weren't for the micro tracker installed on his shoulder.
Truly, that was acting.
No wonder she's the Marvel queen!
...
Natasha's face turned red as she entered the elevator. The moment the doors closed, her bashful expression vanished, and she pulled out a small plastic bag, placing a strand of white dog fur inside.
After leaving, she changed directions frequently, altering her appearance to ensure no one was following her. She then found a coffee shop, sat down, and took out her phone.
"Did the interview go well, our top agent?"
"It went smoothly. I've infiltrated the organization, but I haven't noticed anything particularly unusual yet." Natasha thought for a moment. "If I must say, there are two points."
"Go on."
"First, the target is very handsome."
"..."
There was a long pause before the other person spoke again.
"Natasha, are you making a joke?"
"I'm not joking. The target's appearance is exceptional. Even though his photos were already impressive, in person, he has an extraordinary allure, almost magical."
"If he learns to harness his charm, he could be very dangerous."
"..."
"But he's a man, okay, okay. What's the second unusual point?"
"The two dogs he keeps are extremely perceptive of human nature. I only mentioned common issues with dogs, and they immediately looked at me, as if they understood human speech. They are highly intelligent."
"Pay close attention to this." The other person's voice rose two octaves. "Some animals that seem harmless can be very dangerous, especially cats and dogs!"
"I stole a strand of fur from one of the dogs and will take it back for DNA testing..."
Natasha took out the small bag, but her words trailed off.
"What's wrong, Natasha?"
The person on the other end asked, noticing her silence.
"There's a big problem with Luk's dogs."
Watching the fur slowly turn to black smoke and disappear, Natasha's expression turned serious.
Sorry for the delay.
