Chapter 138: You Want to Blackmail Me?
Chapter 138: You Want to Blackmail Me?
"Bang!"
The compartment door was slammed hard from the outside, the force causing the door frame to let out an ear-grating creak.
Kyle, who had been concentrating on maintaining the Duplication Charm, was startled by the sudden noise, his wrist twitching upward instinctively.
"Riiiip..."
A long, narrow tear appeared on the map he had just finished.
"I..."
Kyle's eyes twitched as he looked at the now ruined map.
This was a Galleon...
The others were startled by the banging as well. Fred, who had just finished casting the spell, shook, imprinting the map onto George's robe in front of him.
"Merlin's beard! This is my new robe this year," George lamented, his eyes filled with distress. "Kyle, do you know how to get this off?"
"Of course, it's simple," Kyle replied, narrowing his eyes and glancing towards the door.
Through the glass on the door, he could clearly see three boys of similar ages standing in the corridor outside.
"That Harry Potter, he actually gave up Malfoy's friendship for that damn Weasley, he's so stupid, just like his parents! They're the same... ungrateful!"
Draco Malfoy paused, then slammed the adjacent compartment door again.
"And that Weasley."
Goyle, standing next to Malfoy, rubbed his fingers and said angrily, "He dared to let his pet bite me. I'm going to teach him a lesson."
Goyle was stout and sturdy, and though he looked like a wooden stump with a teapot on top, there was no denying that his angry face exuded a hint of intimidation.
"Don't worry, Goyle, there will be opportunities," Malfoy said, rubbing his slightly sore wrist. "My father is on the school board. Once we're in Hogwarts, I have a hundred ways to make them regret their actions today."
After straightening his somewhat messy hair, he turned to leave with Crabbe and Goyle, intending to join the other Slytherins in their carriage.
However, just then, the door to the adjacent compartment was opened.
"Wait a moment, gentlemen," Kyle said, standing there expressionlessly. He scanned the three boys before him, his gaze finally settling on the pale-faced boy.
Based on their positions, the door-slammer was likely him.
After confirming his target, Kyle said indifferently, "You were the one who slammed the door just now."
"Er... yes, it was me," Malfoy acknowledged after a moment of surprise. "I'm Draco Malfoy, and I apologize for disturbing you."
Although Malfoy's manners were impeccable and his words polite, Kyle could see the unconcealed arrogance in his eyes as he spoke, especially after he introduced himself.
However, Kyle didn't mind. He replied calmly, "Your attitude is acceptable. Now, as long as you compensate us for our losses just now, we'll let this go."
"Losses?"
Malfoy paused, then noticed Fred and George standing behind Kyle.
The hint of politeness that had been on his face vanished, replaced by a look of disgust.
"Red hair... those damn Weasleys and their freak friends," Malfoy said, looking at Kyle and tossing a golden Galleon over. "Keep the change... Oh, and by the way, this is a Galleon. You probably don't know what it looks like yet."
"Wait a moment..."
Kyle gently shook the fingers holding the Galleon, his expression indifferent as he said, "That's not enough."
Malfoy paused, took a deep breath, and threw another Galleon at Kyle.
He used a lot of force, as if he wanted to smash the annoying boy in front of him with the coin.
Kyle easily caught it and shook his fingers again.
"I'm sorry, it's still not enough..."
"Don't go too far!" Malfoy's face reddened slightly, and he said angrily, "If you keep pestering me, I'll tell my father that you're blackmailing me! He's on the school board, and he has the authority to expel you!"
"I think you may have misunderstood," Kyle said, raising an eyebrow. "I'm a model student who received the Special Contribution Award from the school. How could I possibly resort to blackmail? I'm merely seeking reasonable compensation for our losses. Even if the Minister of Magic were here, they couldn't say anything about it."
"Special Contribution Award?" Malfoy scoffed. "You, a... Wait, are you that new student called Kyle?"
He remembered now. During the summer break, his father had mentioned that a new student had received the Special Contribution Award.
It must be this guy.
"To be precise, I'm in my second year. You're the new student here," Kyle said. "Now, can we continue discussing the matter of compensation?"
Malfoy frowned, intending to refuse.
Although he didn't know what the compensation was for, in his opinion, since the other party was hanging out with the Weasley kids, they probably weren't well-off. The two Galleons he had thrown should be more than enough to cover their entire outfit.
However, he couldn't leave just yet.
Not because of Kyle's identity—how could a mere Special Contribution Award holder compare to his father's position on the school board?
It was the five people standing behind Kyle that made him hesitate.
With Kyle, that made six students who were in their second year or above, and they only had three first-years on their side.
If a fight broke out, they didn't stand a chance.
"How much do you want?" Malfoy asked through gritted teeth.
He decided to buy his way out of this situation. No matter what, he just wanted to leave this place.
Kyle thought for a moment and said, "Not much. In total, it's two hundred Galleons. Including the previous one, you only need to give me one hundred and ninety-eight Galleons."
"What? Two hundred Galleons?!?"
Malfoy thought he must have misheard. He screamed, "That's impossible! Don't even think about it!"
"Don't rush," Kyle said. "Let me break it down for you..."
"I'm not listening!" Malfoy's face turned completely red, and he drew his wand, pointing it at Kyle. "I know what you're doing! You're blackmailing me!"
Two hundred Galleons was more than the monthly salary of most employees at the Ministry of Magic.
Even if he had banged on the door hard, or even if he had stormed in and beaten everyone up, he wouldn't have to compensate them that much.
Malfoy was rich, but he wasn't crazy. He wouldn't give Kyle two hundred Galleons unless he had lost his mind.
