Chapter 138: Kyurem: Let's Talk?
Chapter 138: Kyurem: Let’s Talk?
Jing He dropped off Dr. Otani near the research institute.
"Uh oh, the conference!"
It was only now that he realized the Pokemon Researcher Conference had already started.
"Thanks a lot, Jing He."
With that, Dr. Otani ran off in the direction of the conference.
Jing He rubbed his nose.
Phew.
At least he didn’t try to give him another Pokemon.
He already had three at home.
Jing He turned his head to look at his Pokemon.
Emboar was about to swing its hammer at the "Zorua" statue, while Gastly had donned a silly mustache and was showing it off to Vulpix.
Forget it.
He didn’t want to corrupt the other Pokemon.
Besides, he could barely take care of the three he had; another one would be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Not knowing what to do, Jing He decided to check out the conference.
Actually, the first day of the researcher conference was the most boring. It was just a bunch of professors and researchers talking about their studies, experiences, processes, challenges, and how they overcame them.
It was like listening to a bunch of stories, but the content was utterly dull.
The second day was when the big shots would showcase their actual achievements, which would be more interesting.
He checked the time on his phone.
However, a sudden message caught his attention.
[Together in Rebellion]: Want to chat?
Huh?
Jing He examined his phone from all angles.
Was it broken?
Why wasn’t it giving notifications now?
And who was this person?
Moreover, the tone of the message was peculiar.
But since someone was “active,” Jing He had a reason to avoid the boring stories for a while.
He found a relatively clean set of steps and sat down, then replied to the message.
[Jing He]: Sorry, I’ve been adding a lot of people lately and might have missed you. Who are you?
[Together in Rebellion]: Didn’t I tell you? I am the Lord of Destruction, born from... Never mind the details.
Lord of Destruction?
Together in Rebellion?
Jing He’s expression became a bit odd.
Interesting.
[Jing He]: Greetings, Lord of Destruction. I am the Sky Sovereign, wielder of the True White Dragon, guardian of order, and creator of light!
Kyurem, in the world of destruction, stared at the text floating on the tiny glass screen, its expression turning serious.
Because it could feel the power behind the words!
Good grief!
This guy’s background is huge!
"Who doesn’t know how to brag? Just because you know a bit of Sinnoh history doesn’t mean you can fool everyone," Jing He muttered to himself.
But he understood that this was just the typical boasting between "edgelord" teenagers.
Like those who say, "There can’t be a world without Ultraman," "At that moment, we all turned into light," or "Bones can be boiled into soup."
Who hasn’t had their edgelord phase?
Men never grow up; they just get older!
Besides, anyone who added him as a friend would know who he was and what he did.
[Together in Rebellion]: You’re pretty impressive!
[Jing He]: Likewise.
[Jing He]: Alright, let’s get back to the point. What do you want to talk about? Or, you can start by telling me about yourself.
There was no reply for a while.
Jing He wasn’t in a hurry.
While waiting, he watched Emboar.
Emboar was now swinging its hammer with a serious look, sweating profusely, trying to melt the "Zorua" statue into the hammer.
But the statue was about the same size as Emboar, and it was unclear how it would fit into the hammer.
[Together in Rebellion]: I have a friend. It’s facing some trouble... (omitted) It’s not really its fault (omitted) In the end, it’s the fault of the one who created it, giving it power but not freedom! And its two brothers are cowards.
Good grief.
Writing an essay?
But Jing He got the gist of it.
A parent or creator with three children, but treating them unfairly. The eldest, feeling unjustly treated, was complaining.
From Jing He’s experience, this "friend" was probably the person themselves, using Pokemon as a metaphor.
After years of providing psychological counseling, Jing He had become adept at this.
Based on the person’s story and language, he made a quick psychological profile.
The person was likely very ambitious, with outstanding abilities, but also had a strong sense of self-esteem and perhaps a bit of jealousy.
And with the nickname "Together in Rebellion," they probably had a rebellious streak.
"Phew—"
Jing He took a deep breath.
Based on his profile, he felt the person was a lot like someone he knew—Sasuke!
Another rebellious teenager.
Jing He sighed and called out to Gastly.
"Gastly."
"Gastly?" Gastly looked at him with confusion.
Jing He waved his phone and joked, "Your brother."
After all, Gastly was known as "Vortex Gastly."
Gastly made a face and went back to helping Emboar, ignoring Jing He.
[Together in Rebellion]: Do you think my friend should rebel?
[Jing He]: By "rebel," do you mean you want to "take down" the creator?
[Together in Rebellion]: When did I say that? I, I just want what’s rightfully mine.
The message was quickly retracted, but it was too late.
Seeing those words, Jing He smiled.
"Look, it’s easy to spot. A surefire way to make friends out of nothing."
[Together in Rebellion]: My friend just wants to reclaim what’s rightfully his. Don’t you think we should rebel?
Jing He nodded slightly.
Thankfully, although he has a rebellious streak, he hasn’t lost his core nature and isn’t harboring murderous thoughts.
There’s still hope.
If the other party were a ruthless villain with deeply ingrained beliefs, he would have to inform Miss Juniper.
Following Jing He’s usual “treatment” method, he always starts by going along with the other person’s thoughts.
[Jing in the Field]: Yes.
In the shattered world, Giratina stared at the message for a long time before letting out a long, mournful howl.
Roar!!
Terrifying energy instantly swept through most of the shattered world, making the already devastated place even more desolate.
But Giratina seemed happy.
Finally!
Finally, someone understands me!
[Together in Rebellion]: So, I need your help!
Did he slip up again?
[Jing in the Field]: No problem.
Jing He’s response was still straightforward.
But before Giratina could get too excited, he quickly sent another message.
[Jing in the Field]: But you have to agree to one thing first.
[Together in Rebellion]: Speak your mind!
[Jing in the Field]: From now on, don’t mention ‘rebellion,’ don’t talk about anything related to ‘rebellion,’ and don’t even think about it.
[Together in Rebellion]: ?
[Jing in the Field]: You said the creator is very powerful, extremely powerful. If you have even a hint of such thoughts, actions, or consciousness, don’t you think it might notice or even know?
Giratina shuddered.
Suddenly, he realized.
That’s right!
He’s been ranting about rebellion and wanting to crush Alakazam, but given Alakazam’s abilities, how could he not know?
[Jing in the Field]: So, what you need to do now is to have no such thoughts, and quietly build up your strength. When the time is right, you can burst forth and make him see you in a new light!
[Jing in the Field]: We have a saying, though it’s a bit cliche, it fits you well—thirty years on one side, thirty years on the other. Don’t underestimate a young man’s potential!
[Together in Rebellion]: That makes sense.
The message was retracted.
[Young Man]: That makes sense.
Pfft—
Jing He couldn’t help but laugh.
What high comprehension!
Even the nickname was changed.
This is the “cooling-off” method.
By making the other person not act, not mention, and not even think about it, over time, they might gradually forget.
At the very least.
After a while, even a few years, when the person grows up and becomes more mature, the decisions they make will be more rational.
Of course.
Jing He isn’t saying that the other person’s “rebellion” is necessarily wrong.
After all.
You can’t judge others without walking in their shoes or understanding their struggles.
His role is to guide the other person, helping them become more mature and responsible for their decisions, and to think through the consequences.
At the very least.
He might be able to lend a hand at the most critical moment, either to help or to pull them back.
After this conversation, the chat window disappeared.
Huh?
Jing He clicked his tongue.
"Tsk, looks like it’s really time to get a new phone."
The phone provided by the League isn’t of high quality; it’s already broken after such a short time.
"Jing He?"
At that moment, a voice came from behind him.
Turning around, he saw Cynthia.
She looked puzzled.
"What are you doing here?"
Jing He looked up and realized he was sitting on the steps by the side door of the research institute.
"Uh, taking care of some things," Jing He said.
"Oh? Is he the one?"
Another voice came from behind Cynthia.
An elderly woman in a white lab coat with short brown hair, looking somewhat frail, walked out.
Cynthia stuck out her tongue and whispered to Jing He, "My grandma."
Grandma?!
Jing He quickly stood up, feeling inexplicably nervous.
"Dr. Jiezi Lan."
Dr. Jiezi Lan smiled warmly, appearing quite friendly.
She glanced at Jing He and nodded to herself. "He is quite handsome."
Jing He and Cynthia exchanged a look.
"Can you beat my granddaughter, Leek?"
Dr. Jiezi Lan suddenly asked a question that caught Jing He off guard.
A cold sweat broke out on Jing He’s forehead.
"Probably... not."
"Grandma, you’re really something," Cynthia facepalmed.
Dr. Jiezi Lan chuckled, acting a bit like a mischievous old child.
Then she raised her eyebrows at Jing He.
"You’d better step up your game, young man."
"Grandma, Jing He knows quite a bit about Sinnoh’s history," Cynthia quickly changed the subject.
"Oh?"
When it came to Sinnoh’s history, Dr. Jiezi Lan became more serious.
"Jing He, didn’t you say you wanted to see the inscriptions and documents in the research institute?" Cynthia added.
"Ah?... Oh, right." Jing He was taken aback but quickly nodded in response, noticing Cynthia’s meaningful look.
Dr. Jiezi Lan’s gaze swept over the two of them, and she smiled with a deeper meaning.
"Then come on in and take a look."
With that, she turned and walked back inside.
Cynthia waved at Jing He and followed her in.
Seeing this, Jing He wiped his forehead and let out a sigh of relief.
Why does this feel like a meeting with the in-laws?
