Chapter 138: Itachi's Move
~ Ding, ding, ding ~~~
The crisp wind chimes sway gently in the breeze.
Kisame appears suddenly before them and retrieves Samehada, which had been sucking the chakra out of the unconscious ninja.
As Kisame turns to leave, he notices something and reaches out to search the body of the dead ninja. He pulls out an updated bingo book with the latest bounty information on missing-nin.
"Itachi, look what I found."
Flipping through the pages, Kisame's eyes light up, and he turns to Itachi, who is seated on a large rock nearby, with a smile. "Uchiha Sasuke, Konoha S-rank missing-nin. Charges: Leaving the village without permission; invading the Fire Temple; intruding on the Tsuchigumo clan. Hahaha, it seems your little brother has been quite busy while we haven't seen each other for some time."
Itachi Uchiha, who had been resting with his eyes closed on the large rock, opens his eyes. The black three-tomoe Sharingan spins slightly in his blood-red irises.
"Wait, there's more," Kisame adds, finding another bounty notice from the black market on the dead ninja's body. He looks at the latest page and expresses his surprise, "The bounty for your brother on the black market has reached 300 million ryo. Tsk tsk, with such a large sum, we need to be careful of Kakuzu. He will definitely not let this money-making opportunity pass."
The bounty on Sasuke's head is now on par with that of Jirobo.

As the voice falls, a figure wrapped in a tree, half-black and half-white, rises from the ground. It is none other than the mysterious being, Juzo.
"Don't tell me even you don't have any information on Itachi's brother?" Kisame asks Juzo, not too surprised by his sudden appearance.
"Even the Sage of the Six Paths isn't omnipotent, let alone us," a deep voice, contrasting the previous carefree tone, replies.
This voice belongs to Black Zetsu.
He is not lying.
The ninja world is too vast.
Even if they were to send out all one hundred thousand White Zetsu, it would be impossible to gather information on the entire ninja world, especially now that only a small number of White Zetsu are operating outside.
With the support of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, finding Sasuke's trail is no easy task.
"So, you're here with a new mission from the leader?" Itachi finally speaks up, not asking about his brother but inquiring about the reason for Juzo's arrival.
But instead of answering directly, White Zetsu turns to Itachi and asks, "Actually, it's not a mission, but the leader wants me to ask you, Itachi, aside from yourself, which other members of the Uchiha clan have awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan?"
"Mangekyo Sharingan?" Itachi's expression shifts slightly as he asks, his voice calm, "Why do you ask this?"

Black Zetsu, uninterested in the theatrics, cuts to the chase, "There's a man with the Mangekyo Sharingan by Sasuke's side, and the leader is very curious about him."

Black Zetsu, on the other hand, gave Itachi a deep look.
Without further ado, just as he had come abruptly, Black Zetsu bid farewell and retreated back into the depths.
"Itachi, you need to be careful from now on," Kisame offered a word of caution. "Since this man with the Mangekyo Sharingan is with your brother, his attitude towards you is likely hostile."
Itachi acknowledged with a simple "mm-hmm," indicating that he was well aware of the situation.
In his heart, however, he had a better understanding of the truth than those in Konoha who were clueless.
As a direct witness, Itachi knew all the truths about Uchiha Shisui.
When Black Zetsu mentioned the new Mangekyo Sharingan owner, Itachi immediately thought of Shisui's eyes.
One of them was in his possession, while the other had been taken by Danzo.
Now that Danzo was dead and the Root organization had been completely destroyed, it was highly likely that Yu Xuan Yue had taken Shisui's other Mangekyo Sharingan from Danzo's body.
Considering that Sasuke had followed Yu Xuan Yue, it made sense that there was now a Mangekyo Sharingan user by his side.
As for the identity of the Mangekyo Sharingan user, Itachi had no idea.
Perhaps it was Yu Xuan Yue himself.
Or maybe, it was one of the individuals who had escaped the net back then.

Even someone with exceptional talent like Kakashi had to completely change his combat style, and his chakra levels had even become a measuring unit.

"Just what are you planning?"
Itachi's eyes flickered with worry as he realized that Sasuke was drifting further and further away from Konoha.
Sasuke had chosen to follow Yu Xuan Yue instead of Orochimaru, and Itachi had always felt uncertain about this decision.
While he knew Orochimaru inside out, Yu Xuan Yue was like a mysterious fog that he couldn't penetrate.
Now, it seemed that his fears were coming true.
"Perhaps, I need to go and see for myself. If things deviate too far from the intended path, then..."
Thinking of the doujutsu sealed within his Mangekyo Sharingan, Itachi's gaze sharpened. He put his straw hat back on, and amidst the gentle ringing of the wind chimes, he set off into the distance.

Kisame grinned, "The leader has instructed that Akatsuki members must not act alone and must always move in pairs. Since you have business to take care of, I'll give up my vacation and accompany you."
"Suit yourself," Itachi said without turning back.
