Chapter 137: The Blade Is Your Wife
Chapter 137 The Blade Is Your Wife
"Mighty spirit, huh?"
Zoro subconsciously nodded as he listened to Kuro, replying, "Interesting. If I can break free, I'll give it a shot!"
"Zoro, that guy's trying to steal your sword!"
Nami shouted desperately at him.
Zoro turned to face her in surprise. "Is that true?"
"You little brat sure talks nonsense!"
Kuro glared at Nami, declaring solemnly, "This is a swordsman's spirit! A true swordsman should forge his own blade into a Black Blade—the unique bond, the singular devotion! That's what every swordsman truly seeks!"
"Think about it—before forging and after forging, a swordsman's journey mirrors how a man meets a woman and grows into marriage. Day after day, night after night, walking side by side, sleeping blade-in-hand. Only when the blade darkens with your bond does it become your wife, your eternal partner!"
Kuro raised Autumn Water, his expression grave. "This Autumn Water was the legendary sword of Wano Country's Greatest Swordsman 'Ryuma'—he forged it into a Black Blade, so it became his wife. Every swordsman must seek his own wife! That's what makes a swordsman! That's a man's magnanimity and responsibility!"
His words thundered, leaving everyone awestruck.
Luffy slammed his left fist into his palm, suddenly enlightened. "So that's what a swordsman is! Awesome, Zoro!"
"Sounded epic! If that's true, then Green Algae Head's got three 'women' by his side. Unforgivable! Three of them, and I don't even have one!"
Sanji knelt, pounding the ground with a defeated hound's despair.
"Oh! Now I get it!" Usopp nodded, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Three women, huh? No wonder Zoro trains daily!"
"Hohohoho! So my sword's a woman too!"
Brook stared at his cane-sword, voice suddenly sultry. "Won't you show me your bone prick? Though you're a sword, you don't have one... Hohohoho!"
Skeleton
Twenty years alive, Kuro had never seen a living skeleton before.
Of course, he'd seen plenty of corpses.
That's what made this so bizarre.
"Zoro's such a manly man after all!" Franky gave a thumbs-up. "Totally awesome, Zoro!"
A cute little creature nearby squeaked in agreement.
"A raccoon?" Kuro glanced over.
"I'm a reindeer!" Chopper snapped.
Nami stood expressionless, watching the crowd like they were fools.
Beside Kuro, Lida and Klah wore awkward expressions.
Lida's face twisted with disgust.
"He's beyond saving", Lida shook his head.
Klah nodded in grim agreement.
"That said—"
Nico Robin pondered briefly, then pointed out a flaw. "But by wielding this sword, aren't you stealing Ryuma's wife?"
Silence fell.
The air froze.
Crows cawed in the distance.
Everyone stared at Kuro, waiting.
Kuro slowly sheathed Autumn Water, exhaled deeply, and lifted his gaze.
"I... love married women."
Nami's face contorted in disgust, her eyes screaming "scum" at Kuro.
Robin simply nodded. "A fine preference."
"Are we really talking about this right now?!"
Kuro snapped back into action. "Old man, aren't you here to capture someone? Get on with it!"
"Oh! Right!"
Lucius Kro scratched his head. "Old man forgot."
He lowered his head, yellow light swirling around his feet.
Expressions shifted instantly. The crowd cried in panic: "Zoro!!"
"Time to finish this."
Lucius Kro stomped.
Suddenly, a blur flashed past. A kick slammed into Lucius Kro's leg, lifting him skyward.
The beam from his foot shot upward, blasting the tree straight ahead.
Boom!!
A deafening explosion tore a massive crater into the canopy.
Lucius Kro set his foot down, staring at the newcomer. He smirked. "Your turn now, 'Pluton' Silvers Rayleigh."
The stranger, white-bearded and wild-haired in a tattered hooded cloak, leaned on a common Longsword. He chuckled at Lucius Kro. "Don't pluck budding shoots. Their era has just begun."
"Pluton?"
Lida and Klah, stunned by Lucius Kro's words.
One hailing from the Grand Line, the other a former pirate. Upon hearing "Pluton", their first thought was—
One of the Three Ancient Weapons?
The one Crocodile sought in Shabondy?
"Silvers Rayleigh? Roger Pirates' Vice-Captain?"
Klah stared at the old man, shocked. "Is it really him?!"
"Can't be", Lida's face twisted in disbelief. "That Silvers Rayleigh? Here?"
Sengoku asked, "Big brother Kuro, is that the real deal?"
Kuro lit a new cigar, puffing out smoke. "It's him. Just sensing his aura, even at his age, he's as strong as a damn monster."
Lucius Kro eyed Silvers Rayleigh. "Hmph, old man, I like nurturing youth too. But pirates... that's off-limits."
"Though I never imagined you'd really be on this island. Still a pirate at heart, huh? Rotting through your bones even in old age?"
"If you lift the bounties, I'd happily retire", Silvers Rayleigh grinned.
Lucius Kro replied, "Other pirates? We can negotiate if their crimes aren't heinous. But Roger Pirates? Not happening. And capturing you? We'll need better preparation. Scary stuff."
"Then, for my sake, spare these kids?" Silvers Rayleigh suggested.
"Cut the crap, old man. If we don't capture these brats, the Marine Headquarters will get endless hell from the World Nobles."
Lucius Kro waved dismissively. "Old man's subordinates hate the World Nobles. Better to end it here than let them bother us again."
"Usopp, Brook! Get Zoro out of here!!!"
Luffy's roar split the air. "Split up and run! Escape if you can! We can't beat these guys now!"
Usopp and Brook immediately bolted, carrying Zoro.
Robin glanced at Kuro, tense.
Back in Enies Lobby, she'd encountered him.
This man rivals the World's Greatest Swordsman!
Admirals, Pacifista, and now this terror.
Can they really escape?
"PX-1, don't let them escape!"
Sengoku swung his massive axe, charging after Luffy with PX-1.
"You won't run!"
Klah adjusted his glasses, used Shave, and pursued.
Time to avenge Syrobu Village!
Suddenly, Lida approached Kuro, hesitated, then asked cautiously:
"Hey, Kuro... when you said you love married women... you meant that, right?"
"Huh?"
Kuro blinked, then smacked Lida's head.
"What the hell are you thinking?! How could a sword be a wife?! You think this is some kind of spirit-cutter?!"
(I really didn't expect 'Zanpakuto' to become a sensitive term...)
