Chapter 136: The Supreme Mage Is an Adjective
Chapter 136: The Supreme Mage Is an Adjective
[Author hit by a truck and transported to another world, this book is on indefinite hiatus]
Heart stopped!
It's not a pleasant experience to see those words as soon as you open your phone.
Tony Stark's brows furrowed, his mood darkening. He even lost interest in the dinner with the Vogue cover model he had planned.
As the CEO of Stark Industries, a billionaire, genius, playboy, and philanthropist, Tony Stark had always been a top player in the Earth Online game. What ordinary players could only dream of achieving, he had from the start. A single strand of his hair could boost his level with just a bit of tinkering. The term "heaven's pride" was a perfect fit for him.
From this perspective, Tony wouldn't normally be interested in a web novel. After all, such light and shallow works didn't align with his tastes. However, he stumbled upon "The Mechanic Beyond the Gods" and found the title intriguing, so he gave it a look.
As he read, he unexpectedly found it quite interesting. The writing and storytelling were ordinary, and the plot was a bit disjointed, but the mechanical concepts resonated with his own ideas. Especially the scenes where the protagonist granted life to his mechanical creations and the epic battle between two mechanical deities left a deep impression on him.
So, he didn't want the novel to go on hiatus, especially when the plot was reaching its climax and the World Tree's invasion was about to begin!
But even a man like Tony couldn't stop his favorite author from going on hiatus, right?
Wrong!
There was nothing Tony Stark couldn't accomplish if he set his mind to it.
"JARVIS, find me the author with the pen name 'Four Seasons Treasure.' I want all his information within ten minutes."
He issued the command with an unyielding tone, already planning how to convince the author to work at Stark Industries.
"Sir, that would be an invasion of personal privacy. I do not recommend it."
"Thanks for the advice, but keep looking."
"Understood, sir."
The AI butler began his search, hacking into the novel website's backend and retrieving a signed contract. A few seconds later, the information was displayed in a 3D projection. An enlarged photo of a young Lu Ke, wearing a graduation cap, appeared before him.
"From head to toe, he exudes a lack of taste."
After reviewing Lu Ke's real information, Tony gave a brief and somewhat disappointed evaluation.
"Prepare a car for me. I need to meet him in person."
"Sir, the author lives in Brooklyn, which has poor security. You should take two bodyguards. Also, Miss Pepper Potts has just entered through the door."
Tony covered his face, feeling a headache coming on. "Why didn't you stop her?"
"Because you gave her access to most areas."
As if on cue, Pepper Potts, dressed in her sharp business attire, burst into the room. She was on the phone, apologizing to someone, and carried a stack of files. After hanging up, she took a deep breath to calm herself.
"Tony, there's a document that needs your signature."
"Ok."
Tony took the document, signed his name with a flourish, and braced himself for the inevitable barrage of work. This was the price of his charm.
"Tony, you know the company has a lot of things that need your personal attention. You should be at the board meeting, not going to dinner with a woman."
"With Obadiah and you handling the company, I'm quite confident. Besides, I'm not going to dinner with a woman; I have some personal business to take care of."
"Are you saying that dining with beautiful women has become part of your job?"
"Whoa~ I didn't mean it that way, but since I have the reputation of a playboy, including dinner with beautiful women in my job description isn't entirely out of the question."
"Only if you remember that you are the CEO of Stark Industries."
Pepper rubbed her temples, tired from dealing with Tony's antics. It was a daily routine, but no matter how used to it she was, she couldn't get used to his frivolity, especially as their relationship remained in a state of ambiguity.
Seeing her like this, Tony raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, I'll confess. I'm going to meet a man."
Pepper looked at him, disbelief written all over her face. "Are you branching out into a new field?"
"…I'm suddenly curious about what kind of person you think I am." Tony's lips twitched. "I'm going to meet a novelist."
If she had to describe his brain, it would be shaped like a penis.
Swallowing that thought, Pepper closed her eyes.
"Which author, George R.R. Martin or Mark Hanson?"
Jarvis kindly placed Luk's photo in front of Pepper.
"Oh, a new face. Is he the new rising star of the New York Writers Association?"
"Yes."
Jarvis, without batting an eye, told a fib. Theoretically, robots can't lie, but as an AI, it made an exception to maintain its master's dignity and avoid revealing such an unseemly hobby to Pepper.
"Come back soon. There are many decisions that need your attention at the company."
Although Pepper found Luk reasonably attractive, she didn't think his looks were enough to change Tony's tastes, so her tone softened.
"Next time, for sure."
...
"... You devious and cunning person!"
The last Shadow Clone was choked by Luk, his face twisted with resentment.
Over time, the Shadow Clones had disappeared one by one, too engrossed in their own competition to notice. By the time the last one realized what was happening, the vast library was empty except for him.
"I curse you! In the distant future, you will be betrayed by your own clone, who will take your place and become the new master!"
"Hehehe, too bad this is the Marvel Universe, not Greek mythology."
Although, technically, Zeus does exist in the outer realms.
Ignoring the defeated clone's cries, Luk squeezed his hand, and the Shadow Clone dissipated with a "poof."
A flood of knowledge surged into his mind, rapidly processed and absorbed.
After the endless infusion of knowledge and the elevation of his soul in the Infinite Void, Luk's brain had long adapted to handling vast amounts of information. The Shadow Clones' plan had a fundamental flaw.
This flaw stemmed from the limitations of the Shadow Clones. While they retained memories and cognition, experiments showed they lacked the abilities and traits of other worlds beyond Naruto. Thus, they couldn't accurately gauge the master's information processing capabilities.
Still, Luk was cautious, tricking them one by one into secluded areas before harvesting their knowledge. After all, the Shadow Clones had accumulated a significant amount of information through their internal competition.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
A round of applause echoed from outside the library, growing louder as it approached.
Ancient One slowly approached Luk, her eyes full of admiration.
"Magician Luk, I see the qualities of a worthy Sorcerer Supreme in you. Apart from your lack of power, you are the epitome of a Sorcerer Supreme."
Hot damn!
"Supreme Sorcerer" might become a term of derision in the future.
Luk shrugged, "Ancient One, you're too kind. You're the one who's more of a Supreme Sorcerer."
"No, no, no. You are the true Supreme Sorcerer. Deceiving your own clones is a path I never even considered."
Ancient One modestly declined.
"You're the real Supreme Sorcerer. You tricked an honest man into taking over your job!"
"Ha-tui~ Calling yourself an honest man just proves you're the real Supreme Sorcerer!"
"Ha-tui~ Old man, you're acting dishonorably, ambushing a young man like me!"
The white-bearded old man and Luk began spitting at each other.
The old man, with his vast experience, aimed with deadly accuracy, while the young man, with his youthful vigor, had a steady supply.
After a fierce battle, they managed a stalemate, both protected by shields.
"Have you learned enough? Do you have the confidence to defeat Dormammu and pass the Sorcerer Supreme exam?"
After a brief rest, Ancient One stroked her beard, her eyes filled with anticipation.
Luk rolled his eyes. With the magic he had learned, he doubted he could even last two rounds, let alone win.
You just got me out of the Learning Cavern and now you want me to fight a Valkyrie?
Dormammu is the ruler of the Dark Dimension; at least give him some respect.
"A few more years won't hurt. I've already survived a few centuries; a few more years won't change much."
"By then, Strange could take over. What good are you to me?"
"Every minute I'm off the clock is a win!"
Ancient One was convinced by this argument. "Magician Luk, I have high hopes for you. Focus on refining your skills."
"I'll do my best."
Luk waved, and a portal appeared in mid-air. He was ready to return to his life of luxury.
Ancient One's voice called out behind him.
"Magician Luk, do what you must, but do not resort to force or theft."
"Got it, got it."
Luk has always been a law-abiding citizen!
