Chapter 136: The Corrupt Soil Breeds Wicked Seeds! Justice Must Not Compromise! (9,000 Words)
"Just supervising a Jinchūriki, and yet this happens… That child—wasn’t she the poor Hiruzen Clan kid from last night?"
Hidden in the shadows of the Ninja Academy, Kakashi stared at the cold, lifeless body not far away.
"…If only she’d been in the same class as Naruto Uzumaki."
Kakashi didn’t know why, but a flicker of guilt tugged at his chest. Perhaps it was the thought that he could have saved her.
After all, as an elite Anbu Ninja and high-level Jonin, if he’d seen a child attempting suicide, he could have stopped it in an instant.
The problem? He hadn’t seen it happen.
One eye, obscured by a shadow, narrowed.
"Did she take her own life because of past wounds? But why choose the Ninja Academy… as the place to end it?"
Kakashi couldn’t make sense of it. And as someone assigned to secretly monitor Naruto, he couldn’t afford to show himself now.
So he remained still, observing the Academy’s reactions—watching the teachers' anxious faces, their voices tense, their hands trembling as they tried to maintain order.
And then…
He saw them.
Naruto Uzumaki and Uchiha Sasuke, standing just a few feet from the body of Hiruzen Sakuko.
Sasuke stared at the bloodied kunai clenched tightly in her hand.
"Cutting her own throat with a kunai…" He swallowed hard, his voice tight. "She must’ve had incredible resolve to do this. Look—her face… there are still clear tear tracks. She was devastated when she died."
"Damn it!" Sasuke scowled, lips curling in frustration. "Why can’t we get any closer? I’m the second son of the Uchiha Clan Head! Even without joining the Investigation Corps, I know their procedures. If I could examine this properly… there might be something new."
"Yo, Dead Last," Sasuke turned to Naruto. "What do you think?"
"Ugh, stop calling me that!" Naruto grumbled, then narrowed his sapphire-blue eyes toward the right. "I don’t know… but I’ve got this weird feeling. It’s like… those guys over there are involved."
"Those guys?" Sasuke followed Naruto’s gaze.
There, near the edge of the courtyard, stood a group of older Academy students—maybe three or four years ahead of them—watching from a distance.
When they caught Naruto and Sasuke looking their way, they flinched, instantly turning away as if nothing had happened.
That reaction… even Sasuke found it suspicious.
"Naruto! Sasuke!"
Suddenly, both boys felt their collars yanked sharply—like they’d been lifted off the ground by an invisible hand.
A stern voice snapped: "Didn’t I tell you not to get close? Teachers will handle this. Back to class. Now!"
Sasuke twisted, struggling against the grip. "We’re sworn to Absolute Justice! We have a duty to investigate!"
Naruto, dangling midair, gasped, "Yeah! Iruka-sensei, put us down, please!"
"No!" Iruka, the dark-skinned teacher, kept his face stern. "I don’t care what creed you believe in. Here, in the Academy, you follow me. This isn’t a pretend ninja game. Don’t treat a tragedy like a joke. Do you understand? This is disrespect to the dead!"
With that, he dragged them both back toward the classroom, not letting go even as they squirmed.
But as he walked, he paused.
He turned his head slowly, giving a long, heavy glance toward one of the female teachers—Izumi Kaede.
His voice dropped low.
"Fūka-sensei… This girl… she was in your class, wasn’t she? She ended her life so suddenly… do you have any idea why?"
Izumi Kaede froze. Her expression twisted with sorrow. She shook her head. "I… I don’t know. She came in this morning… something was off. Maybe… something happened at home?"
"Ah…" Iruka nodded. "I’m still new here, but I’ll say this: as a teacher at the Academy, you must be responsible for every student. When the Investigation Corps arrives, I hope you don’t hold back. Only then can the truth come out. Only then can the child rest in peace."
Izumi Kaede’s brows furrowed sharply. "Iruka-sensei… what do you mean by that? Are you suggesting she wasn’t a suicide?"
Iruka shook his head. "I never said that."
He said nothing more.
Still dragging the squirming boys, he disappeared into the building.
No matter how much they protested, he didn’t let go.
…
"Found her."
On the other side of the village, an Anbu Ninja sent by Hiruzen Sarutobi had searched for nearly ten minutes before finally spotting Uchiha Iizumi.
He took a deep breath—then shun—and appeared directly before her.
Blocking her path, he spoke rapidly, voice sharp.
"Uchiha Iizumi. Hokage-sama requests your presence for a special case."
Tachibana Jiro narrowed his cat-like eyes. "Third Hokage sending Iizumi-sama on a case? Now that’s a first. The sun’s rising from the west."
"And what kind of case?"
A woman’s voice—cool, calm—suddenly cut in.
The Anbu Ninja stiffened.
He hadn’t sensed anyone behind him.
Then—a hand on his shoulder.
His body tensed. An Anbu Ninja should have sensed that.
He spun around.
And saw her.
Kushina—one of the Sannin of the Leaf Village—standing there, arms crossed.
Beside her, her student Shizune, holding a small, plush pig-like creature in her arms.
"Kushina-sama?" The Anbu Ninja blinked. Though surprised to see her with Iizumi, he quickly snapped to attention.
"It’s about a girl—Hiruzen Sakuko. Hokage-sama brought her to the Academy, and shortly after… she took her own life. Used a kunai to cut her throat."
Kushina’s eyes widened.
Shizune gasped.
Iizumi’s expression didn’t change.
But Kushina—her face darkened instantly.
She lunged, grabbing the Anbu Ninja by the collar, lifting him off the ground with terrifying strength.
"What?!" Her voice was a snarl. "How could she even think of suicide?!"
The Anbu Ninja trembled, sweat pouring down his back.
He’d never felt such raw, unfiltered kill intent—not even from the strongest enemy.
"I… I don’t know! Hokage-sama didn’t know either!" he stammered. "He was furious when he heard. That’s why he sent me to fetch you!"
"Kushina-sama, calm down!" Shizune tugged at her sleeve, voice urgent.
Kushina inhaled deeply. Her face twisted with fury—but she released the man.
He fell to the ground, gasping.
"Kid," she turned to Iizumi, fists clenched. "We have to—"
She stopped.
Iizumi—and her orange-colored Ninja Cat—were gone.
"Shizune! Move!"
"Y-Yes!"
…
Moments later.
The Ninja Academy.
Three Uchiha Police Force ninja had arrived before Iizumi—sent immediately after the body was discovered.
Of course, the teachers had alerted the Hiruzen Clan.
But they’d also contacted the Uchiha Police Force.
This was murder. A ten-year-old child. Witnesses everywhere.
Root couldn’t hide this. And the Academy teachers weren’t reckless enough to try.
"Victim: Hiruzen Sakuko, member of the Hiruzen Clan. Age ten. Female. Fourth-year Academy student. Cause of death: severe laceration to the neck—fatal hemorrhage and asphyxiation."
One of the three Investigation Corps ninja knelt beside the body, examining it with cold precision.
"Likely weapon: the kunai she was holding—standard Academy training tool."
"No fingerprints other than hers. The wound entry angle… it’s self-inflicted."
"By all accounts, this appears to be suicide. But… I found something."
He paused.
"There’s Sharingan Power residue on her. She was subjected to a Sharingan Genjutsu within the last 24 hours."
The recording ninja froze. His pen stopped mid-sentence.
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely." The Uchiha ninja met his eyes. "I checked three times. No mistake."
The third ninja—arms crossed—frowned. "So… this suicide is linked to us? Why use a Sharingan on a Hiruzen child?"
"And which Uchiha did this?"
Before he could finish, a cold, detached voice cut in.
"The Sharingan residue belongs to my Mangekyō Sharingan."
The three Uchiha froze.
They turned.
And saw Uchiha Iizumi.
She didn’t wait for their shock to settle.
"I used the Sharingan Genjutsu to make her forget traumatic memories. Nothing more. I did not force her to kill herself. That’s the truth. But I have no proof. You’re free to doubt me."
"...We wouldn’t suspect you," one of the Investigation Corps ninja said, voice low. "Not even if we wanted to."
The kneeling ninja stood. "Everyone knows—Uchiha Iizumi doesn’t lie. Not ever."
The third ninja lowered his arms.
He looked at Iizumi. "We didn’t expect to meet you like this. After your return… this is how we’re first introduced. You might not know, but on the night Uchiha Setsuna called the clan meeting, we were among the first to leave."
"We spoke with your subordinate, Uchiha Izumi. We wanted to meet you. But never… like this."
Iizumi didn’t answer.
She stepped past them.
Stood over the corpse.
Stared at the child’s pale, tear-streaked face—so young, so broken.
The air around her grew thick.
Even the three elite Uchiha ninja—veterans, Jonin, members of the Investigation Corps—felt it.
A pressure. A weight.
Their palms began to sweat.
Not from fear.
From instinct.
From their bodies knowing—this was something beyond them.
Then—
Two figures shuned into view.
The lead one—Kushina—stopped dead.
Her eyes locked on the crimson-stained ground.
Her entire body locked up.
Every inch of her skin trembled. Her pupils flickered uncontrollably.
She should have looked away.
She should have closed her eyes.
But she didn’t.
She forced herself to stare.
At the small, broken body.
"H-huh… h-huh…" She gasped, breath ragged. Sweat soaked her back.
Shizune, panting behind her, watched in horror.
"Kid…" Kushina’s voice cracked. She turned to Iizumi. "Was she really… a suicide?"
Iizumi gave a single, solemn nod.
"She ended her life with no hesitation."
Kushina stared at her face—impassive, unreadable.
"You… don’t feel anything? Not even a flicker?"
Iizumi’s voice was flat.
"I do. But Absolute Justice cannot show emotion. To do so would be seen as weakness."
Kushina blinked.
Then—
Iizumi added, colder than before:
"Her death wasn’t random. It was caused. By sin. By guilt."
Kushina’s breath hitched.
She heard it—the shift in tone.
This wasn’t just cold.
This was hurt.
But buried.
"Sin?" Shizune asked softly. "Did someone push her to do it?"
She looked at the body.
No one could do this without Zetsu-level resolve.
"Some people know more than we do," Iizumi said.
Her gaze drifted—past the teachers, past the crowd.
To one woman in particular.
The one who kept her head down, not looking.
Izumi Kaede.
A line of blood-red text flared in Iizumi’s vision:
> Izumi Kaede — After learning Hiruzen Sakuko’s tragic past from a Hiruzen child, deliberately reminded her of her mother’s betrayal and the drowning of her own infant. Used emotional torment to drive her to suicide.
>
> Culpability: Red Mark!
Iizumi’s movement caught Kushina’s attention.
"Iizumi… your eyes…" Kushina whispered.
It was barely audible.
But the teachers heard.
A ripple of unease spread through them.
They turned—eyes darting, suspicious.
Especially toward Izumi Kaede.
She was the victim’s teacher.
And now—her face was wrong.
Tense. Pale.
Her eyelids twitched. Her lashes trembled.
"Fūka-sensei…" One teacher gasped. "You—?"
Izumi Kaede collapsed slightly, reaching for the Leaf Village forehead protector on her arm—like it was her only anchor.
She opened her mouth.
Then—her eyes flicked to Iizumi.
Her face went white.
She knew.
She felt it—the gaze.
The weight of Justice.
Her mental walls crumbled.
"I… I didn’t know she was so fragile…" Her voice cracked. "I just… I hated her mother. Because the baby she drowned… it was supposed to be my brother’s child. His last bloodline. But she—she took it!"
"I only just found out today. Three Hiruzen children were talking about it in class—out loud. They said things… terrible things. Right in front of Sakuko!"
"I just… repeated what I’d heard. I didn’t think… I didn’t think it would—!"
"Just repeated it?"
Iizumi stood before her now.
Izumi Kaede looked up—hand still covering half her face.
And saw the Sharingan.
Cold. Unblinking.
"I… I said things… awful things. I told her—you’ve had this kind of life, with parents like these… you’d be better off dead."
She buried her face. "I didn’t know… I didn’t know I’d say things like that to a child. I didn’t mean to… I regret it!"
Iizumi’s voice was icy.
"You don’t regret what you did. You regret being caught. Stop pretending. Your tears don’t move me. They disgust me."
Iizumi didn’t believe a single tear from a criminal.
He didn’t believe their words of regret.
Because they weren’t sorry for their sin.
They were sorry they’d been seen.
"Hey!" Kushina stepped forward, face stormy. "Where are those three Hiruzen kids?"
Kushina’s voice was low—but deadly.
Shizune swallowed hard.
She knew her master.
The kill intent was real.
…
Meanwhile, in Iruka’s classroom:
"Damn it! Iruka-sensei’s watching, and Root can’t sneak out!"
Naruto slumped in his seat, staring out the window.
He nearly stood—then froze as Iruka’s sharp glare hit him.
"Aaaaahhh—" Naruto groaned, grabbing his hair. "Who knew the biggest obstacle to Justice was Iruka-sensei?"
Sasuke crossed his arms, face stoic. "We wait. Until class ends."
Then—
He saw something through the glass.
His brows furrowed.
He tapped Naruto’s arm.
"Dead Last. Those three… weren’t they the ones we saw earlier? The ones you thought might be involved?"
"…Huh? Where?"
Naruto turned.
And froze.
"No way…"
There they were.
Three older students.
Skipping class.
Walking toward the main gate.
Sasuke’s voice dropped. "They’re leaving. Are they running?"
Naruto shot up. "They’re trying to escape?!"
Sasuke stood too. "We have to stop them!"
"NARUTO!"
"SASUKE!"
Iruka’s face turned purple.
"You two—nowhere. You’re standing in the back. I told you—this isn’t for kids! The Uchiha Investigation Corps will handle it!"
Naruto: "..."
Sasuke: "..."
The entire class turned.
"Since when did Sasuke and Naruto become so close?" Haruno Sakura whispered, bitter. "And they’ve been together everywhere. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him!"
She turned to Ino. "Ino, what’s going on?"
"Ino…?!"
Yamana Ino snapped out of her daze, eyes wide.
"Ugh, you broad-forehead! Who wants to play this stupid love game?!"
Ino flipped her Byakugan. "I don’t know why they’re so close!"
"Sakura! Ino!" Iruka snapped, breaking his chalk in half. "You’re both back there! No more nicknames like that!"
Ino: "..."
Sakura: "..."
They stood at the back, glaring at each other.
Sakura frowned.
Something was off.
Ino—normally obsessed with Sasuke—wasn’t even paying attention.
She looked… distant.
Like she was somewhere else.
Sakura felt uneasy.
Everyone around her… changing.
But she didn’t know why.
Sasuke glanced at Sakura, then Ino.
He didn’t care.
He was about to speak to Naruto—
When—
He froze.
His eyes snapped to the window.
His cold face cracked.
"Dead Last… it’s Iizumi-sensei!"
Naruto stared. "Really?!"
Iizumi… a teacher?
Sakura blinked.
And then—
She saw Ino.
Her body jolted.
Ino knew Iizumi?
Was there even a teacher named Iizumi?
Sakura turned.
And saw.
Her blood ran cold.
…
Pfft—
A silver ninja sword—gleaming, deadly—pierced a small hand.
It drove deep into the ground.
A scream was cut short as a boot slammed onto the boy’s head, grinding his face into the dirt.
His cheek tore open. Blood and flesh smeared across the pavement.
Uchiha Iizumi slowly pulled the blade free.
One foot remained planted on his skull.
Her voice: "You ran fast enough. Now why aren’t you running?"
On the other side—
Kushina, face dark with rage, hauled two more Hiruzen children by their collars.
She threw them across the yard.
They crashed into the ground, screaming.
One gashed his arms.
The other’s arm snapped.
"Iizumi… these three?" Kushina panted, eyes on the bleeding boy.
"Yes."
Iizumi looked down.
And saw the truth in her mind’s eye:
> Hiruzen Sōshin — Spread rumors about Sakuko’s parents in class. Reopened her buried trauma. Triggered her suicide.
>
> Culpability: Red Mark!
>
> Hiruzen Kishi — Publicly stripped Sakuko’s pants in front of ten classmates, exposing her unhealed wounds.
>
> Culpability: Red Mark!
>
> Hiruzen Shōshi — Held her hands down when Kishi attacked, preventing escape. Made her break.
>
> Culpability: Red Mark!
"What did they do?" Kushina asked, voice trembling.
"I know I’m angry. But… these are just kids. They’re even younger than Rinten."
"They deserve justice."
Iizumi’s voice was quiet.
"If we lower the standard because of age, status, or circumstance—then Justice isn’t Absolute. It’s just compromise."
…
Behind them—
The Academy teachers arrived, stunned.
They’d heard it.
The list of horrors.
How could children this young do such things?
They’d only be graduating in a year or two!
They didn’t know whether to punish the bullies… or blame themselves for failing to stop them.
And then—Izumi Kaede.
A teacher.
She’d seen it.
She’d allowed it.
She’d joined in.
One teacher closed his eyes.
"…Ah…"
…
In the shadows, Kakashi watched.
His heart was cold.
He felt no pity for the children.
But as an Anbu under the Third Hokage, he had to report.
He bit his thumb—summoned a ninja hound.
"Go. Tell the Hokage."
The dog leapt from the tree—racing toward the Hokage Tower.
…
In Iruka’s classroom:
Sakura’s face was pale.
She’d seen Iizumi impale a hand.
She’d seen the face crushed into the ground.
"I…"
"Iruka-sensei!"
Sakura gasped, turning to the front. "Someone’s hurting students outside! We should go help!"
Iruka’s face twitched.
"No." He spoke stiffly. "Ignore it. Don’t look. I’ve said it before—this isn’t for you."
If Naruto and Sasuke were just disrupting class…
Then Sakura was asking to die.
He knew what was happening.
It was Iizumi.
Again.
Another private execution.
Going out would only stop Justice.
Iruka wasn’t ready to die.
Not yet.
Sakura stood frozen.
She didn’t understand.
…
"Iizumi…" Kushina whispered, voice raw.
She looked at the three children—terrified, bleeding.
If they were ninja… she’d break every bone.
But they weren’t.
They were children.
"Blood for blood."
"Life for life."
Iizumi said nothing.
But the words echoed in the air.
Justice would not yield.
Not to age. Not to pity. Not to fear.
It would not compromise.
