Chapter 136: New Ideas, Explosive Candy
Chapter 136: New Ideas, Explosive Candy
Not long after, Cedric and Qiu arrived one after the other, adding a lively atmosphere to the private compartment.
It had been two months since they last met, and everyone was delighted to see each other again.
Kyle thought that Qiu seemed to have grown taller since the last time he saw her. As soon as she entered the compartment, she placed a large package on the table.
It contained gifts she had brought—snacks from the Muggle world.
In Qiu's opinion, Kyle, Cedric, and Connor all came from pure-blood wizarding families and must be unfamiliar with Muggle treats. This was a perfect opportunity to introduce them to something new.
So, she had spent half a day carefully selecting what she considered to be the tastiest treats.
The others were quite intrigued by the treats Qiu had brought.
Cedric, for instance, took a liking to a black-colored beverage. Although he found it unusual at first sip, he gradually discovered that its unique taste was far superior to pumpkin juice, and it gave him a strange sense of happiness as he drank it.
If he didn't know it was a Muggle drink, he would have thought it was laced with Cheering Charm.
Connor, on the other hand, favored the triangular corn crisps and the berry-filled cookies.
Midway through their feast, the Weasley twins and Lee Jordan paid them a visit. The three of them were particularly fond of the popping candy that exploded in their mouths.
"You know, I just had a brilliant idea," Fred said thoughtfully as he licked the packaging.
"We could try creating an explosive candy," George finished his sentence, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
"And then we put it on Slytherin's table," George added, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "That might keep Marcus quiet for a few days... I heard he's their new Quidditch captain this year."
"That might be a bit tricky," Cedric interjected, opening the last bottle of Butterbeer. "I doubt anyone from Slytherin would eat candy of questionable origin."
"What if we put the candy in the kitchen?" Lee Jordan suggested. "That way, it would appear with the other food and wouldn't seem suspicious."
"I don't think that's a good idea," Cedric frowned. "The house-elves wouldn't approve, and they'd get into trouble if there were any issues with the food."
"Oh well, never mind then," Lee Jordan shrugged.
"Maybe you just need to approach it from a different angle," Kyle suddenly spoke up. "What if it's a candy that explodes only after you spit it out, but it's sweet while it's in your mouth?"
A gleam appeared in Fred and George's eyes, and they finished each other's sentences:
"Kyle, have you ever been told..."
"...that you're a genius?"
Kyle raised an eyebrow nonchalantly. "Of course, many people have told me that."
"...
An awkward silence filled the compartment as everyone shot Kyle a disapproving look.
Unfazed, Kyle continued to enjoy his chocolate with a calm demeanor. Looking out the window, he spotted Neville.
The boy was scanning the platform anxiously, as if searching for something, while Mrs. Longbottom stood beside him, reprimanding him sternly.
He also caught a glimpse of Mrs. Weasley approaching the train with her three children in tow—Ron, Ginny, and a skinny boy with round glasses and messy hair that fell haphazardly over his forehead.
"Mrs. Weasley," Kyle began...
Mrs. Weasley hurried over. "Have you seen Fred and George?"
"We're here, Mum," the twins replied, stepping out of the carriage.
"By the way, Kyle, what have you been up to this summer?" Qiu asked, popping a Chocolate Frog into her mouth as she spoke. "I only got your reply over two weeks after I sent my letter in August."
Kyle scratched his head awkwardly. "Well... something came up, and I had to take a little trip."
In truth, he had received Qiu's letter the day after he arrived in Dorset, but at the time, he had been busy getting beaten up, and he completely forgot about replying until he returned home.
"I'm so envious of you guys." Qiu said dreamily as she munched on her chocolate frog. "I've always wanted to travel abroad. By the way... what do you think of Paris?"
The last question was directed at Cedric.
"It was a fantastic trip," Cedric replied thoughtfully. "We met an old wizard from there when we went to the opera, and he recognized us as wizards immediately. He showed us a lot of interesting places. If you're planning to go there, I can draw out the route for you later."
"That would be wonderful!" Qiu exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "I've always wanted to visit Paris. By the way, did you go to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic?"
"Yes, we did," Cedric nodded. "But Beauxbatons isn't in Paris; it's in the Pyrenees Mountains in the south. That's what the old wizard told us, too."
"What's it like there?" Qiu asked curiously.
"We didn't go in, but we took a look from the outside," Cedric explained. "It's a bit smaller than Hogwarts, but the architecture is more exquisite and beautiful."
Qiu's eyes lit up at the mention of exquisite architecture, a weakness of hers.
Especially when it came from another well-known magic school.
As Qiu and Cedric chatted, Kyle looked out the window once more. On the platform, Mrs. Weasley was using a handkerchief to wipe the dirt off Ron's nose.
The boy with glasses was no longer by her side; in his place stood Percy.
George frowned as he looked at his brother. "Percy, why is your robe different from ours?"
He gestured to the area over his chest. "These are new robes, but why don't I have that round badge? Is Madam Malkin cutting corners with my robe?"
"Dear, that's a badge only given to Prefects," Mrs. Weasley explained with a smile.
"So that's the Prefect badge," Fred said in an exaggerated tone. "Thank goodness you didn't win the Special Award for Extraordinary Services to the School."
"I think that was a trophy," George added.
"Can't be worn on the chest..."
"...but can be placed on the head..."
"...like a golden hat!"
Fred and George produced a trophy from within their robes and took turns wearing it on their heads, imitating Percy's greeting style.
"Shut up!" Percy's face turned crimson with anger.
