Chapter 1351: What Voldemort Never Expected
Chapter 1351: What Voldemort Never Expected
Voldemort's reaction to stress was exactly what Albert expected; after all, it was a byproduct of ruling through terror.
Once the impression of Voldemort's invincibility was shaken, the oppressed witches and wizards would rise up in defiance unless they preferred a cowardly death.
Perhaps no one had the courage to be the unfortunate scapegoat, but with the Defense Association and the Order of the Phoenix taking the brunt of the danger, more and more witches and wizards would eventually join the resistance.
This would undoubtedly plunge the British magical community into unprecedented turmoil, but it was already in the midst of a wizarding war—the most turbulent of times.
How long could that thin veil of peace be maintained anyway? The greedy and brutal Death Eaters would only make things worse, not to mention the scheming dark wizards from the lowest rungs of society who sought to fill their bottomless pits of desires by plundering from their fellow witches and wizards.
However, witches and wizards were not sheep to be sheared indefinitely.
Making matters worse, most of the wealthiest individuals were among the ranks of the Death Eaters, and the outcome of that was predictable.
Rather than letting their power be gradually eroded, Albert felt it was better to bring all the hidden issues to light and use this damned war to resolve them once and for all.
Voldemort's actions were undoubtedly pushing many witches and wizards who tried to remain neutral towards his side, making it impossible for them to maintain their neutrality.
In fact, this was what Albert wanted. Luring students to his side and forcing other witches and wizards to align with him didn't seem to be working as effectively as he had hoped, and it might take a lot more time to accomplish. However, Albert couldn't guarantee when the final showdown would arrive.
That awkward situation of having a bunch of enemies against a handful of allies had to be reversed.
Moreover, when a problem couldn't be solved, one could always get rid of the person causing the problem.
There were plenty of similar examples in history.
In Albert's opinion, this was the time for a revolution in the British magical community, and Voldemort had brought it upon himself. Instead of defeating the mysterious man and suppressing the issues temporarily, only to wait for them to resurface again, it was better to solve the problems and get rid of the problem causer in one fell swoop.
Revolution required bloodshed, and wars inevitably led to deaths.
As long as he wasn't the one dying, Albert didn't care at all.
The beautiful endings in novel stories were ultimately just fairy tales.
Albert certainly hoped for a fairy tale ending, but he would never stake his future on such fleeting hopes.
While a savior could save the world, pinning all hopes on a single person was simply laughable.
At the very least, compared to a savior, he trusted himself more, and he trusted the experience and power he had gained from the missions over the years.
He never lacked the courage to face challenges, and he believed that he could correct the course of the future that had been led astray.
"What were you just thinking about?"
Isabelle noticed Albert's fearsome expression and glanced at his copious notes, suspecting that her husband was brewing some sort of conspiracy.
Albert looked at the newspaper beside his notes, as if nothing had happened, and said softly, "I was thinking about how many people would have the courage to stand up."
"Probably... not that many."
Isabelle had seen Sana's report on the rescue mission, and the problems they had encountered during the operation already spoke volumes.
Most witches and wizards didn't want to be dragged into this wizarding war, which was understandable.
Even though her husband seemed to be one of the main culprits behind the escalation of the disaster, Isabelle knew that it was only a matter of time before this happened. Anyone who stayed in Britain couldn't escape being involved.
Were they supposed to rely on Harry Potter, the savior, to solve all their problems?
It remained to be seen if they even believed in Harry as the savior.
"By the way, when did you become interested in fairy artifacts?" Isabelle asked, looking at the fairy silverware in the room.
She was a bit curious. Could soaking unicorn horn powder in elf-made wine cups with white jasmine really create a cup with detoxifying effects?
"There's something hidden in Gringotts' vault, something that will determine the ultimate outcome of this wizarding war," Albert closed his notebook and hugged Isabelle, letting her sit on his lap as he continued, "Harry Potter and his friends will find a way to break into Gringotts, steal and destroy that item, but I can't pin all my hopes on them. After all, the fate of the entire war is at stake, and I need an extra layer of assurance to make sure that mysterious man is thoroughly finished."
"Why don't you go yourself?" Isabelle asked.
"I thought you didn't like it when I went on dangerous adventures?"
"No, knowing you, I'm sure you wouldn't want to miss out on such an opportunity."
"Some things are better left to Harry," Albert explained, "After all, he's the chosen one, and his luck has always been pretty good."
"Are you saying he's the protagonist of a novel?"
"You're really smart."
"But I think you're more like the protagonist," Isabelle said with a strange expression, "If it weren't for the fact that you don't have a lightning-shaped scar on your forehead, I would suspect that you're the savior."
"I remember you saying something like that," Albert said with a laugh, "But I don't want to be the savior, I just need to make sure the ending is what I want it to be."
"That sounds like a behind-the-scenes boss."
Isabelle reached for the notebook, looked at the dense foreign text, and nodded again, "It does sound like that."
"I just picked up a few tricks from Dumbledore," Albert said casually.
"So, what are you planning to do next?" Isabelle closed the notebook and asked, "Are you going to do what's written in the notebook?"
"Yes, it's time to detonate the time bomb in Hogsmeade. Lately, quite a few dark wizards have come to Britain, and we can't let them unite under the mysterious man, or it will cause even more trouble," Albert didn't deny that he also intended to use this chaos to complete his own arrangements.
He had never expected to defeat Voldemort in one fell swoop, but he could gradually weaken his power.
"The Killing Curse?" Isabelle knew that Albert didn't like using dark magic, and he disliked killing even more, so there was only one way to achieve this.
The method he was best at.
The last time, many dark wizards had lost their lives because of it.
"Yes, ever since it was discovered that the Order of the Phoenix was using the Killing Curse to control the Death Eaters, the mysterious man has probably begun to suspect that his followers might be under someone else's control," Albert chuckled, as this was the result he wanted, even if it was achieved in a way he hadn't anticipated.
"An inside job, then?" Isabelle thought that the Death Eaters didn't deserve any better, and they probably never imagined that something like this would happen to them.
"After all, using the Killing Curse to control and instill suspicion and fear among their enemies has always been their favorite tactic," Albert sneered, "It's time they got a taste of their own medicine."
Voldemort probably never expected that Albert had already dug a pit for him, and once he took the bait, his situation would become very delicate.
Albert looked forward to that day, just as he anticipated the day when the mysterious man and his followers would be completely eradicated.
And he, Albert, Anderson, would be one of the ultimate victors of the wizarding war...
