Chapter 135: Tom, You’re Being Mischievous Again! [Additional Chapter 13 for the Protector of the Wuwang Flower Family]
"That’s not acceptable either. Just don’t let me find out that you’ve gone out alone!" Aisia warned.
Ivan had to give up the idea of sneaking out by himself. There were only the two of them in the shop, and if he stayed out too long, Aisia would definitely notice.
*Gurgle*
After breakfast, two owls coincidentally flew in from outside, just like last time, each carrying a large package, though these seemed particularly heavy.
It must be George and Fred’s reply, Ivan guessed, and then he went to remove the packages from the owls.
Opening them, he found some Extendable Ears and Quick-Answer Quills, along with a letter.
After reading the letter, Ivan was somewhat surprised. He hadn’t expected Mrs. Weasley to agree to George and Fred’s research on magical trick items.
In his memory, Mrs. Weasley was the one who disliked their pranks the most.
Ivan smiled. It seemed that the official order from the Ministry of Magic and the fifty Galleons were quite persuasive.
"Is that a letter from your two classmates?" Aisia, who had been clearing the dishes, walked out of the kitchen and saw the large package on the table.
"Yeah, they’ve sent over the first batch of their products", Ivan nodded.
"They’re called George and Fred, right? They seem to have some good ideas. You could have them work here after they graduate", Aisia looked at the joke toys in the package and said approvingly.
While these were simple prank items, they were creative and would likely sell well.
"I doubt it. George and Fred have always wanted to open their own magical item shop. They’ve even come up with a name for it", Ivan shook his head and explained.
Aisia was a bit disappointed but didn’t dwell on it. She had just mentioned it in passing.
After a pause, Aisia continued.
"Your wand has been processed almost completely. I think it’s best if you engrave the Runes yourself."
Hearing Aisia say this, Ivan became interested. He had used the Dragon Heartstring Wand for so long that he had almost forgotten about his previous Unicorn Wand.
In the basement, Ivan found his wand soaking in a colorless liquid, looking somewhat limp.
Ivan looked at Aisia in confusion.
"Without these treatments, the wand won’t be able to accept the engraving of Rune Formulas", Aisia explained.
Ivan nodded, half understanding, then looked at the wand in front of him, having a new idea. He asked curiously.
"Besides the Concealment Rune, can I engrave other Runes on the wand? For example, the Enhancement Rune?"
The Enhancement Rune was a special Rune Formula that Ivan had studied with the Horcrux Diary over the past few days. To do this, he had to reveal more information to the young Dark Lord.
Aisia thought for a moment. Engraving two different Rune Formulas on the same item was something she had never done before. She hesitated and said.
"It’s not impossible, but it’s very difficult. Multiple Rune Formulas can conflict with each other, so a unique Rune Circuit might be needed."
Ivan was very interested. Since he was going to modify his wand, he wanted it to be as strong as possible. Just being able to shield the Trace wouldn’t be enough to satisfy him.
Especially since he was planning to visit the Werewolf Wizards in Knockturn Alley soon to obtain some Werewolf Blood for brewing Potions, which could be dangerous.
Thinking about this, Ivan discussed the method of resolving Rune conflicts with Aisia.
Unfortunately, Aisia didn’t know much about it. She was also busy making Protective Rings and didn’t have much time. After discussing for a while, they only managed to gather some ideas but didn’t come up with a concrete solution.
Ivan returned to his room after dinner and once again opened the Horcrux Diary, writing down his question on it.
[Tom, do you have a way to resolve the conflict between two Rune Formulas?]
[Yes!] The black ink gradually faded from the diary, and new words appeared.
[Have you seen real Alchemy items?]
Real Alchemy items?
Ivan paused. The anti-curse gloves and protective rings he had made, weren’t they Alchemy items?
[Invisibility Cloak?] After hesitating for a moment, Ivan tentatively wrote with his quill on the diary.
Seemingly surprised, the black ink lingered on the diary for a while before slowly reorganizing into new words.
[Since you’ve seen them, you should know that real Alchemy items don’t require the user to actively input magic to function.]
Ivan nodded. He hadn’t noticed it before, but now, after hearing Tom Riddle mention it, he realized the difference.
The anti-curse gloves and protective rings he had made used rune arrangements to replace the casting steps, fundamentally still requiring the user to provide magical support.
The Invisibility Cloak, however, functioned continuously without the need for any additional magic. Even a Muggle could wear it and become invisible.
By extension, the Gryffindor Sword, which could appear in the hands of those who needed it, and the Sorting Hat, which constantly hummed new songs, as well as other treasures left by great wizards, were likely true Alchemy items.
Ivan felt he was on the verge of finding a way to further upgrade his Alchemy skills and eagerly continued to ask, but unfortunately, the Horcrux Diary didn’t know how to create true Alchemy items.
Then why did you say you had a solution? Ivan complained, feeling rather speechless.
Perhaps sensing Ivan’s frustration, new words gradually appeared on the diary.
[My point is, while we can’t create Alchemy items, we can borrow this concept.
The key to the conflict between Rune Formulas is that the user’s input magic simultaneously triggers two spells. If one of the spells can operate independently without the need for input magic, it would naturally resolve the conflict.]
[So, how exactly should we do that?] Ivan thought for a moment, feeling that this method might actually work, and quickly wrote down his thoughts with the quill.
[Not sure yet, but we can research it together. I don’t think it will be too difficult for us, right?] A series of words appeared on the diary, exuding a strong sense of confidence.
Ivan smiled at the words on the diary.
That’s true. In a short time, they had together researched a large number of Rune Formulas, creating a miracle. Creating another miracle wasn’t impossible.
With this in mind, Ivan didn’t hesitate and wrote down all the conjectures about Rune Circuits that came to mind, exchanging ideas with Tom Riddle.
Before long, the system notifications started ringing one after another.
[Ding, after some discussion, your Alchemy proficiency has increased!]
[Ding, after some discussion]
[Ding, after some discussion, your Alchemy proficiency has decreased]
Huh? Decreased?
Ivan, who was writing new plans on the diary, suddenly froze. He carefully read the system notifications and, confirming he hadn’t misheard, pouted.
Tom, you’re being cheeky again!
