Chapter 135: Lupin's Home
Chapter 135: Lupin's Home
Far away, within the halls of Hogwarts, Harry Potter's scar throbbed painfully on his forehead, as if a terrible scream was echoing from a distant place.
He had been training on the Quidditch pitch when the pain hit, causing him to suddenly feel dizzy and lose his balance, falling from his broom.
"Harry!"
His teammates cried out, and Fred, who had been nearby, quickly flew over and just managed to grab Harry's wrist before he hit the ground.
...
Outside the cave, everyone looked at Ved, waiting for him to provide an answer.
Ved remained calm and said, "You know, when creating certain magical items, the creator often imbues them with their thoughts and intentions."
"No wonder that black shadow was so evil," Michael breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It must have been infused with evil thoughts by Tom Riddle."
The young wizards accepted this explanation, but Lupin, who had made a Marauder's Map with James Potter and the others during his school days, knew better. He gave Ved a meaningful look, as he, too, knew what it was like to infuse magic items with one's thoughts.
The fierce fire burned for a long time until there was nothing left to burn, and it gradually died down.
After moving the giant stone, they saw that the entire cave had been scorched, leaving no spider in the corner or grass root in the stone cracks untouched.
On the cracked stones, the blackened crown still sat, and Ved was pleased to see that the extra name that had appeared on it had disappeared.
Ryan wanted to go in and retrieve the crown, but Ved stopped him.
"Don't go in," Ved said. "There might still be some embers left. Be careful not to start a fire."
He raised his wand and summoned the crown.
Even if there had been an Anti-Summoning Charm on it before, it would surely have been destroyed by the intense fire.
Indeed, the crown flew towards Ved, and Lupin caught it mid-air.
He turned it over, examining it carefully.
All the magic attached to it had been destroyed, and now it was nothing more than an ordinary metal object.
There was some black, sticky substance on the surface that had been baked hard by the fire and flaked off like ash when touched.
"Aqua Spring!"
Ved summoned a stream of water to wash the crown clean before placing it back into its box.
"Is this crown still of any use?" Lupin asked.
"Not really," Ved replied. "But I promised someone that after removing the dark magic from it, I would return it to its original place."
Michael, recalling the glimpse of the crown's true colors beneath the water's cleansing, asked, "Ved, doesn't it resemble the one worn by the Ravenclaw statue?"
"Perhaps it's a replica made by Tom," Ved said calmly. "If he also attended Hogwarts, he may have imitated the Four Founders and created similar objects."
Michael nodded in agreement.
In the story, Dumbledore had only revealed the truth about the Horcruxes to Harry and his two friends, keeping it from the members of the Order of the Phoenix who had fought by his side.
Once unsure of Dumbledore's reasoning, Ved now found himself beginning to understand the wise wizard's choices.
In the wizarding world, everyone carried a wand, akin to bearing a gun.
While they may have initially used them for mundane tasks like cleaning, brewing potions, and defense, what if someone told them that this "gun" could also kill, and that killing could lead to eternal life...
How could one be sure that even those who stood firmly by their morals and values today would not change in the future?
Even if Lupin himself scoffed at Voldemort's "resurrection," what if it were his parents, lover, or children instead?
So, it had nothing to do with trust or character.
Some evil things are best kept permanently secret.
...
With the destruction of the Horcrux, their extracurricular activity could be considered a success.
However, instead of returning immediately, the group accepted Lupin's invitation to rest at his home in Hogsmeade before spending the afternoon in Hogsmeade and returning to school that evening.
Lupin's house was located in a secluded area, not far from the Shrieking Shack. Due to the nearby ghost stories, the house had been sold at a bargain price.
It was a three-story building, with an attic at the top, resembling a slender chicken leg mushroom. There was also a fence nearby enclosing a dozen chickens and a goat.
Further away was a rectangular vegetable garden filled with lettuce, snow vegetables, tomatoes, strawberries, and more. The surrounding area was adorned with colorful flowers such as cornflowers, dahlias, and peonies, creating a vibrant and beautiful border.
Wizards generally had a self-sufficient lifestyle. Lupin hadn't had this opportunity before, but now that he had a stable home, he learned to manage his household properly, just like others in the wizarding community.
With the help of magic, planting and raising animals were much simpler tasks than for ordinary people.
Upon entering, they found themselves in a spacious living room, where a fire blazed to life in the fireplace. The coat rack by the door bowed politely, inviting the young wizards to hang their coats.
There was also a small door to the side, offering a glimpse into the kitchen beyond.
"This is nice, isn't it?" Leon remarked as he surveyed the room. "It's much more spacious than it looks from the outside."
Lupin directed a teapot and cups to fly out from the kitchen, serving everyone a hot cup of tea along with cookies and cake.
Michael leaned against the fireplace, examining the photos on the wall.
There were photos of Lupin and Harry together, Ved and Harry, and even one of Harry hugging a goat.
In one photo, Lupin was clearly much younger, his face bearing the same gentle smile as always.
The photo also included a black-haired boy who looked very similar to Harry, wearing glasses and with unruly hair—undoubtedly Harry Potter's father.
Next to him was a short, chubby boy with round, small eyes and a pointed nose, his smile shy and timid.
His appearance and eyes reminded Michael subconsciously of a mouse.
There was one more person in the photo, with black hair, but his face was partially obscured, standing close to James Potter.
"Who is that person?" Michael couldn't help but ask.
"Someone insignificant," Lupin replied.
He quickly walked over, took the photo off the wall, and said, "I forgot to put this away."
He turned the photo face down on the table and then asked with a smile, "What would you like for lunch?"
While Lupin was in the kitchen, directing pots and pans to prepare lunch with a clatter, Michael quietly said to Ved, "His expression changed... He's definitely not an insignificant person."
"Stop prying, or you might get punched," Ved warned.
Theo whispered, "I've heard of that person... Sirius Black, the most notorious Death Eater and the one who betrayed Harry's father."
