Chapter 134: The Newcomer Asking for Directions
Chapter 134: The Newcomer Asking for Directions
After returning from Diagon Alley, Kyle put aside all his tasks and thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of his vacation while testing out the performance of his new broomstick.
A year had passed, and Kyle finally owned a broomstick.
It wasn't the outdated Cleansweep One, nor the more cost-effective Cleansweep series, but the Nimbus 2000, which had just gone on sale a month ago and had taken the wizarding world by storm.
This was also a birthday gift from Diana and Chris.
Because Kyle had previously gone to Dorset County, the gift had been waiting in his room until recently.
It must be said that as a broomstick sought after by almost all professional teams, the Nimbus 2000 was indeed impeccable in performance.
Aside from its speed and stability, it was also extremely smooth to use; Kyle only needed to touch it lightly, and the Nimbus 2000 would turn in the direction he needed.
With this broomstick, Kyle could easily defeat the Weasley twins in the Quidditch Championship of St. Kachel Village, even if he was outnumbered.
The next day, Cedric finally returned from France and, as expected, joined Kyle's team.
The odds had shifted from one-on-two to two-on-two.
The outcome, of course, was a resounding defeat for Fred and George.
"This isn't fair!" George exclaimed, glancing at the old Cleansweep in his hand and sighing. "There's just too big a gap between brooms. If we had a Nimbus 2000... or even a Nimbus 1500, you wouldn't stand a chance."
"That's not the most important thing, George," Fred said, patting him on the shoulder. "Term starts soon, and Kyle is sure to join the Hufflepuff Quidditch team this year. It's not good news for us Gryffindors."
"Yeah... you're right," George said dejectedly as he sat on the ground.
He knew exactly what Fred meant.
With Kyle's addition, Hufflepuff could smoothly navigate the transition between old and new players without losing much strength.
But it was a different story for Gryffindor.
After Charlie graduated, Gryffindor couldn't find a suitable Seeker to fill his shoes.
Unlike other positions, Seekers required exceptionally high natural talent from their players, and such individuals were few and far between.
It was extremely rare to find a Seeker like Cedric, who displayed outstanding talent as early as his second year, even across all of Hogwarts.
Lee Jordan had decent talent, although he wasn't as good as Cedric, but at least he wouldn't fall too far behind.
Unfortunately, he had already decided to become a commentator.
At this thought, Fred and George exchanged a sigh.
And so, the summer holidays quickly drew to a close.
On September 1st, it was once again Mr. Weasley who took them to King's Cross Station.
At the station, Kyle casually observed his surroundings.
But as he walked towards the platform, he didn't spot any boys with glasses nearby.
"Did I get the time wrong?" Kyle wondered, but he didn't think too much of it.
Just then, Mrs. Weasley asked, "Now, which platform is it?"
"Nine!" Ginny exclaimed. "Mom, can I go?
"You're still too young, Ginny. Don't talk now," Mrs. Weasley said, glancing to the side. "Percy, you go first."
Without a word, Percy walked into the platform.
"It's your turn, Kyle."
"Sorry, Kyle," said Percy, who was walking ahead of him. He turned around and added, "I need to head to the prefect's compartment. You know, prefects are responsible for maintaining order on the train, and there's a lot to prepare in advance." As he spoke, he fiddled with the crimson and gold badge on his chest.
Percy had been proudly proclaiming his achievement of becoming a Gryffindor prefect for over a month now.
"It's fine, go ahead," Kyle replied. "I'll wait for Fred and George."
"See you at school, then," Percy said, fiddling with his prefect badge again before picking up his luggage and making his way towards the train.
Kyle remained where he was.
For some reason, it took Fred and George quite a while to enter the platform.
When they finally arrived, Fred smiled and said, "We met a little wizard who was lost."
"Yes, right after you and Percy left, Mum noticed her asking a Muggle about Platform Nine," George added.
"That little girl was so determined," Fred continued. "She seemed convinced that there was a platform with a '9' sign somewhere here."
"That Muggle must have been so annoyed," George said.
"As we were coming in, we could still hear him grumbling about people wasting his time," Fred finished.
'A little girl...'
Kyle paused for a moment, thinking of Harry Potter.
Just then, two more people entered the platform, one after the other.
They appeared to be a father and daughter duo. The man who entered first looked around the same age as Chris, with neatly combed hair and a sophisticated dark suit.
He curiously examined his surroundings, eventually fixing his gaze on the scarlet Hogwarts Express.
Following him was a young girl with a large box. She had thick, unruly, brown hair that fell loosely around her shoulders.
Upon seeing his daughter, the man immediately reached out and said, "Here, let me help you with that, dear."
"No, Dad, I can manage," the girl shook her head. "I put a spell on the trunk before we left. It's not as heavy as it looks, and as you know, I've memorized all my textbooks."
"Yes, I know, but Hermione..." The man trailed off as he eyed the large trunk uncertainly.
He had helped carry it down at King's Cross Station, and it hadn't felt any lighter than it did now. Whatever spell she had cast didn't seem to have made much difference.
"Just a moment, Dad," the girl said, noticing Kyle and the Weasley twins.
"Thank you for helping me find the platform," she said to the boys.
"You're welcome," they replied, shrugging nonchalantly. To them, it had been a trivial matter.
"No, really," the girl insisted, shaking her head. "If it weren't for you, I might still be searching the station. I've memorized all my textbooks, but nowhere in them does it mention the location of the platform—by the way, I'm Hermione Granger. And you are...?"
"Fred Weasley," Fred introduced himself.
"George Weasley," George added.
