Chapter 1339: The Victor
Chapter 1339: The Victor
"I can't believe I overslept today. That's rare."
In the small garden within the cabin, Katrina, having finished her breakfast, lounged on a comfortable recliner and leisurely flipped through the latest issue of Witch Weekly.
Ever since they learned about the murder of a wizard in Italy's magical community, they had decided to temporarily take to the seas and avoid any potential encounters with Voldemort.
"There's nothing urgent happening today anyway."
Albert stretched and yawned lazily before asking, "Any news today?"
"Another wizarding family has been mysteriously slaughtered."
Without looking up from her magazine, Katrina replied, "The magical governments of various countries seem to be planning to join forces against this unknown assailant."
"Those are just empty words to appease the public," Albert scoffed as he picked up the stack of newspapers on the table, glanced at the headlines, and casually tossed them back down. "If they really wanted to deal with the assailant, they would have united a long time ago. And by the time they actually form an Auror squad to hunt him down, it will probably be half a year later."
"Why is the assailant after Grigovich?" Katrina asked, setting her magazine aside.
"Who knows what's going on in that deranged mind of his," Albert said.
"No, I'm sure you have some idea. You're just unwilling to say," Katrina asserted, believing that there must be a significant reason for Voldemort's relentless pursuit of Grigovich.
"You can't help me with this anyway," Albert said as he finished peeling an egg and started on his warm oatmeal and milk.
"It'll satisfy my curiosity," Katrina said with a slight arch of her brow. "And it's so boring being cooped up on this boat all the time."
"If you were in my shoes, you wouldn't be so curious, especially not about the assailant," Albert warned.
"Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back," Katrina quoted.
"You mean, knowing might kill me?" Katrina asked, surprised.
"Knowing might cause you to drop dead," Albert said nonchalantly. "Look at the Weasley family. They almost lost their entire family at the wedding. They should thank Harry Potter for keeping things under wraps."
"Voldemort can't find me here, and he can't do anything to me," Katrina said, confident in their current location's safety.
"My suggestion is to enjoy your life as it is now," Albert said, finishing an apple and turning to look at Katrina, who was staring at him intently. "And besides, don't you have things to do every day?"
"Mother and Sister are both focused on Alice right now, and you won't help me," Katrina replied in a plaintive tone. "My research on beauty potions has stalled."
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that," Albert said.
Isabella, dressed in a beige wool sweater and with a rosy complexion, walked across the lawn and sat down next to Albert. She sipped on a mug of papaya juice with milk.
"I know, and I'm already an adult," Katrina huffed, falling silent.
"Has Katherine been in touch lately?" Isabella glanced at Albert and asked.
"No," Albert said, surprised by the question. He hadn't expected Isabella to bring up the subject. "We haven't been in contact for a while, you know..."
"She has," Katrina cut in, finding Albert's reaction amusing. "The latest generation of beauty potions from their side is already out."
"Oh, I forgot you two have been keeping in touch," Albert said, suspecting that they were doing it on purpose, although he had no proof.
"Katherine is very ambitious," Isabella explained with a smile. "She's opened beauty shops in many countries and even formed a beauty association, inviting potion masters interested in beauty potions to join."
It seemed incredible, but Katherine had indeed achieved this, bringing people together under one association. What surprised Albert even more was that wealthy women were willing to invest in the association and share their research findings.
"Just as you said, there isn't a woman who doesn't want to be beautiful," Katrina said, giving Albert a strange look. "And it's true what they say—it's easy to earn a woman's money. By the way, Katherine has left you the honorary title of vice president. This is the association's magazine, the current bestseller. Do you want to take a look?"
Albert didn't reach for the magazine. Instead, after Isabella finished her breakfast, he kissed her cheek and prepared to return to Britain, taking advantage of Voldemort's absence abroad.
Katrina withdrew her gaze from Albert and turned to look at her sister. "I've noticed that Albert is getting more and more involved in this matter."
"The war may be coming to an end," Isabella said suddenly.
"The war is ending? Now?"
Katrina found this hard to believe. The assailant was still rampant and powerful; how could they be easily defeated?
"I'm not sure either, but I have a feeling this war won't last much longer," Isabella said.
"Do you think Harry Potter can really defeat the assailant?" Katrina asked skeptically. "I'd rather believe it's one of Albert's schemes. I always feel like he's plotting something."
"Maybe you should start preparing," Isabella said, unconcerned.
"The articles I've published in the magazine have been very well-received," Katrina said proudly, waving the magazine in her hand. "I've already discussed it with Katherine, and we plan to compile those articles into a book."
"A book on how to make women look younger and more beautiful?" Isabella asked, her expression odd.
"Women will definitely love it," Katrina said confidently. "There isn't a woman out there who would refuse the chance to become younger and more beautiful. With this book, I won't have to worry about galleons anymore, and I won't have to be bound by Sister and Mother's restrictions. I can live the life I want."
"Freedom isn't always as wonderful as you think," Isabella mused. "For me, a stable life is more important. It's not so bad to hide out here for a while. Besides, for you, this is just a novel experience, but I've been living like this for years."
"That's because you chose to, isn't it?" Katrina said. "I thought you would become someone as remarkable as Katherine."
"I've gotten what I wanted, and I'm content," Isabella said, clear about what mattered to her.
"I'm sure Katherine would trade anything to be in your position," Katrina said with a slight smirk.
Isabella looked at Katrina, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth, but she remained silent.
I had some things to take care of today, so this is yesterday's chapter.
