Chapter 1331: Want to Bet Your Future on the Old Man?
Chapter 1331: Want to Bet Your Future on the Old Man?
The intense imbalance caused the ground to tilt and crack in all directions—some sections jutting upward, others collapsing into craters.
Cracks erupted precisely beneath Kuro's feet, lifting the earth where he stood. From the gaping fissures surged a torrent of seawater, swirling violently before suddenly surging skyward, forming a towering wall of churning ocean.
Within the seawater, a glowing object shot toward Kuro like a spear.
Hua!
Kuro narrowed his eyes, his body shooting upward. From the rising seawater emerged a grotesque fish head, its lantern-like appendage blazing with light. The monstrous maw yawned open, revealing razor-sharp teeth as it lunged at him.
Lanternfish?
Before Kuro could finish the thought, he sensed something and instinctively raised his Yokai Blade. His pupils constricted.
Ka!
The Lanternfish's gaping mouth released a shockwave that split the air itself. The frenzied blast slammed into Kuro, sending him hurtling backward with a stifled grunt. The shockwave distorted the air, revealing silhouettes within.
"Evil laugh!!"
A familiar, booming cackle echoed as the mouth-shaped distortion solidified into a hated, burly figure. A man in a black captain's hat, his chin adorned with a three-braided beard, missing two front teeth—Blackbeard himself—clenched his fist and emerged.
"Kuro! Long time no see!!"
Transparentization?!
"Marshall D. Teach!!"
Kuro's eyes flashed with fury. Mid-backflip, he swung his blade, unleashing a colossal crescent slash that smashed into the Lanternfish's head.
Boom!!
The strike sent the fish head reeling backward, crashing into the ground with a shockwave.
"Ow, that hurt..."
The Lanternfish let out a near-murmur. Kuro now saw it wasn't just a fish—it had pulled half its body out of the fissure, revealing a humanoid torso and arms. Webbed fingers gripped the earth, its exposed half alone towering dozens of meters high.
Riding the shockwave, Kuro landed and launched himself skyward again, circling to the fishman's side. He spotted the creature's massive tongue extended like a platform, carrying Marshall D. Teach and others. Beside Teach stood Shiryu, Laffitte, Daidon, and Van Augur, plus two newcomers—a pale-haired, scholarly-looking middle-aged man and an even more obese brute, his jowls jiggling with every movement.
All of them were giants.
Marshall D. Teach approached the smoking Luffy, gripping him by the collar. Seeing Luffy's rolled-back eyes, he chuckled darkly: "Blackbeard's Laugh... So this is what became of you, Luffy?"
Whoosh!
A fiery path split open as Zoro charged like a tiger, Sanji kicking a clear passage through the flames beside him. Both roared in unison: "Give Luffy back to us!"
Marshall D. Teach glanced at them, then tossed Luffy like a ragdoll. Compared to Luffy, the man's bulk was monstrous. Sanji leapt instantly, catching the smoking Luffy mid-air.
"Take him. He can't die yet—that's what the bastard Navy wants. Wait until he restores himself. I still need him to help me wipe out all these Marines here. Though, if you kill him early..."
Marshall D. Teach turned, pointing at the execution platform with a thunderous laugh: "That platform over there—that's Luffy's spot! Evil laugh!"
Swish!
A storm of slashes rained from the sky.
Shiryu, cigar clenched in his teeth, exhaled a plume of smoke. Drawing his blade, he leapt, his body surrounded by radiant arcs that shattered the slashes mid-air before landing gracefully.
"Blackbeard's Laugh, Kuro! So impatient? I came all the way here just for you!"
Marshall D. Teach spread his arms, laughing at Kuro's aerial assault: "Though you do look terrifying today!"
High above, Kuro glared down at Teach and his crew, his voice icy:
"Is that so? I thought you'd be hiding like the coward you are. I was planning to kill Luffy first, then hunt you down. Now you've saved me the trouble."
"Blackbeard's Laugh! Finding new crewmates took some time, after you killed so many of mine."
Marshall D. Teach tilted his head back, laughing at Kuro: "To celebrate your promotion to Fleet Admiral, I've prepared a welcome gift. You'll be pleasantly surprised!"
"Bro...bro...bro..."
Kuro's wristwatch buzzed with the Transponder Snail's ringtone. He frowned.
"Answer it."
Marshall D. Teach grinned. "You're Fleet Admiral now. How unacceptable if you don't take the call."
"You bastard, what trickery is this?"
Kuro cursed, activating the snail.
"Fleet Admiral! Impel Down is in chaos!" The snail's voice carried panic.
Kuro stiffened, eyes widening as he turned to Marshall D. Teach.
"Blackbeard's Laugh! My gift's not bad, right?" Teach waggled a finger, grinning.
"You really know how to stir trouble!"
Kuro gritted his teeth, barking at the snail: "Details!"
"Deputy Warden severely injured! Warden Hannyabal critically wounded! Impel Down is in ruins! Thousands of prisoners escaped! Headquarters has mobilized Sengoku, Garp as Vice Admiral, and Borsalino to assist Sakazuki as commander-in-chief to suppress the uprising!"
"I understand."
Kuro severed the call, fixing Teach with a glare: "This was your plan?"
"Blackbeard's Laugh! Isn't it perfect?"
Marshall D. Teach spread his arms wide: "The Navy and pirates clash in the New World! The Kingdom Army and Revolutionaries battle across the Grand Line! Let's make it even messier! Let the retired and the withdrawn rejoin the fray! Let the world burn in chaos! You'll get no reinforcements!"
"After all, the Marines' foundation is terrifying. Only with this chaos can the Old Man safely come here and claim what he desires!"
Marshall D. Teach pointed at Kuro, his eyes bloodthirsty: "Come, Kuro! I know where you've hidden that thing! The Old Man can't reach it... but no worries! Kill you, and everything will be his!!"
"You're truly..."
Kuro tightened his grip on the Yokai Blade, his eyes flashing with a killing intent so thick it felt like liquid. The oppressive aura froze Teach's crew in place, their bodies sinking under the weight as they raised their arms defensively.
"Too arrogant, Marshall D. Teach! Wanting to bet your future on the Old Man? I fear your single life won't be enough!"
"Blackbeard's Laugh! What terrifying killing intent! But the Old Man isn't afraid of you anymore, Kuro!"
Marshall D. Teach's hands glowed with the Quake-Quake Fruit's power and the Dark-Dark Fruit's shadows, his grin widening:
"My Devil Fruit abilities? The Old Man has perfected them!!"
