Chapter 133: Professor Snape, Are You Out Shopping with Your Child?
Chapter 133: Professor Snape, Are You Out Shopping with Your Child?
"Ah, Scourgify."
Fred looked at his now-spotless robe and sighed softly. "Mom uses this spell at least three times a day. I wonder why Ron can't remember it."
"Who knows," shrugged Kyle.
His previous plan had been a spur-of-the-moment idea and was full of holes.
The biggest problem was the cleaning spell, which was also the main reason Fred and George thought Ron wouldn't fall for it.
In a wizarding household, this spell was one of the most commonly used household magics, and they figured Ron would definitely know it.
Kyle had thought the same.
In fact, when he saw the cautious look in Ron's eyes at the Leaky Cauldron, he had already started considering whether to let Ron off the hook.
But since he was already here... it wouldn't do to just do nothing.
So he came up with this plan, lowering the difficulty for Ron as much as possible.
Otherwise, he could have just directly asked Ron, and with Ron's desire for a new wand, he was sure he wouldn't refuse.
Kyle's idea was simple: as long as Ron asked, "Why don't you use the cleaning spell?" he would abandon all his plans and buy a wand directly.
But... Ron didn't.
Not only that, he actually believed it!
It was absurd.
"It looks like Ollivander is out..."
Fred raised an eyebrow. "Let's go in too. I can't wait to see the show."
"Hey, is that any way to talk about your little brother, Ron?" Kyle teased.
"Thanks for reminding me, or I would have almost forgotten."
Fred smiled slyly and then opened the shop door and walked in.
As Kyle was about to follow, he suddenly noticed a familiar figure appearing from around the corner not far away.
A black cloak billowed without any wind, greasy hair glinted faintly, and a sinister gaze scanned the surroundings, making him look like a large bat flying in the night, completely out of place with the lively atmosphere.
And it seemed there was someone following him, hidden by the cloak, only a pair of small, stubby legs visible.
"Long time no see, Professor Snape."
When the figure drew closer, Kyle greeted him first: "What a coincidence, Professor. Are you out shopping with your daughter... Oh, it's Connor."
Only when they were closer did Kyle realize that the person following Snape was actually Connor.
Snape's eyes twitched, as if he had been force-fed a large dungbomb, and his expression immediately turned gloomy.
"Don't be ridiculous, Kyle," Connor said, poking her head out. "Uncle Snape hasn't..."
"Be quiet, Connor!"
The little girl didn't get to finish her sentence as Snape cut her off forcefully.
A strange expression flashed in Kyle's eyes as he noticed Connor's change in address for Snape.
But before he could think any further, he heard Snape's voice, laced with mockery.
"Why are you here, Ollivander... Did your wand break?"
"Not at all, Professor. I take good care of my wands."
Kyle's expression remained unchanged. "I came with Fred and George to help their little brother buy a new wand.
Ron Weasley, also a new student this year."
Snape looked a little disappointed.
"Also, I want to buy some potion ingredients," Kyle continued. "I'm already looking forward to your Potions class."
"Hmm~"
Snape made a short, unintelligible sound, his expression turning even more unpleasant, as if he had been force-fed another dungbomb.
But for some reason, he held back and merely glanced at Kyle thoughtfully, saying nothing.
"Let's go, Connor."
Without another glance at Kyle, Snape turned and continued walking forward.
Connor, however, seemed like she wanted to stay a little longer. This summer vacation, too many strange things had happened around her, and the experiences of these two months were more exciting than the previous two years combined.
Connor kept gesturing to Snape, but he remained unmoved, even going so far as to say bluntly, "Don't associate with Kyle in the future. He's not a good person."
Kyle watched as they turned the corner into a nearby crucible shop before finally turning and entering Ollivander's wand shop.
After being delayed by Snape, Kyle had expected to miss the most exciting part, but as soon as he stepped inside, he heard Ollivander's hurried voice.
"We never deliver wand maintenance kits; they must be purchased separately."
"I recall you're from the Weasley family. Why don't you even know the Scourgify spell?"
At that moment, the dirt Ron had deliberately smudged on his arm was gone, and he stood there, face reddening, looking down as if searching for something on the ground.
Kyle thought he must be looking for cracks in the floor.
"As for why I don't clean..."
Ollivander paused, then continued without changing his expression, "It's for Neutralizing Dark Magic. The dirt acts as a magical barrier, protecting the wands in the shop from external magical influences.
It's a complex concept that only wandmakers like us understand, and explaining it to you would be pointless!"
"So... which hand do you use for your wand!"
Ron tremblingly held out his right hand.
A measuring tape then flew off the counter and began measuring him roughly.
Fred and George stood by, heads lowered, hands covering their stomachs as they shook with suppressed laughter.
If it weren't for Ollivander's presence, they probably would have laughed uncontrollably.
After taking Ron's measurements, it was time for the wand selection process, which didn't go smoothly for him.
On the seventh or perhaps eighth try, a wand strongly rejected Ron, spraying him with a rush of water from its tip as soon as he held it.
This left him soaking wet and shivering in the breeze.
...
An hour later... the boxes on the counter were piling up.
George and Kyle sat cross-legged nearby, passing the time with a game of Wizard's Chess, while Fred watched and occasionally offered his unsolicited opinions.
Neither of the players paid him any mind.
"A superb combination."
Ollivander's voice suddenly broke the silence.
"Fourteen inches, willow wood, unicorn hair core. It suits you perfectly, Mr. Weasley.
That will be seven galleons."
Was that... it?
Kyle stood up immediately, earning a frown from George.
"Hey, I was about to win!"
Kyle ignored him and pulled out his wallet, extracting a handful of galleons.
But just as he was about to hand them to Ollivander, Fred hooked his shoulder and grinned. "Hey, Kyle, are you buying anything else?"
Taking the opportunity, George quickly stepped forward and handed over the seven galleons.
"Next year, Ginny will get a new wand or a new robe from her brothers," Fred winked.
"Feeling generous now, are we?" Kyle smiled.
"Still stingy," Fred sighed. "Ron's so clumsy; it feels like a waste to give him a new wand."
...
After leaving Ollivander's, the group simultaneously stretched their sore muscles.
"We need to hurry, Kyle," Fred said. "Mom's probably waiting anxiously. If we're any later, she might come looking for us here."
"What else do you need to buy?" George asked.
"Some parchment," Kyle replied. "And a bottle of Sleekeazy's Hair Potion."
