Chapter 132: Making Up for Shortcomings
Chapter 132: Making Up for Shortcomings
On Monday morning, the Ninja Academy commenced the first exam of the second semester for the year.
Unlike the previous exam, Mu Yue, now a Jonin teacher, didn't have to draw lots to decide which class to invigilate. Instead, he had the option to either inspect and observe the various first-grade classes or stay quietly in his office and drink tea.
Not one to idle away his time, Mu Yue sent his shadow clones to roam the halls while his main body went off to cultivate.
He had already cultivated the Contract Seal to proficiency without using the ninjutsu proficiency scroll, thanks to his innate talent in sealing techniques.
As there wasn't an urgent need for sealing techniques at the moment, Mu Yue decided to research and improve his skills on his own, saving the proficiency scroll for later use.
In terms of physical training, Mu Yue had already attained mastery over the Rock Breathing technique for over two and a half months. Under the constant training of 24 hours a day, he tested himself once a week, and each time, he noticed progress.
The rate of improvement began to gradually decrease after two months, but it was still more effective than regular training.
Mu Yue didn't put too much thought into the five basic ninjutsu techniques. Based on his observations and appraisals of other ninjas, he deemed his current level to be more than sufficient. Instead, he focused on researching various combinations of his ninjutsu and how to release them in combat effectively.
What Mu Yue truly felt he lacked was chakra and battle experience.
With his high level of nature transformation and many proficient ninjutsu techniques, Mu Yue's ninjutsu prowess was so powerful that he dared not release it at full force for fear of attracting the attention of the Anbu.
If he were to unleash his ninjutsu with all his might, Mu Yue believed that its power would definitely be on par with that of a Kage-level ninja. However, if he were to go all out in a battle, he would quickly deplete his chakra.
To put it metaphorically, Mu Yue had a large outflow but didn't have a substantial reservoir to match it. While he wasn't as extreme as a certain magician who could only cast burst magic once, his chakra capacity was indeed lacking when compared to his output capability.
As for battle experience, there wasn't much he could do about it. Mu Yue had no opportunity to fight at full strength to test his true capabilities unless he wanted to be suspected of being a spy and invited for tea by the Anbu or the Root Organization.
Thus, aside from the training he received as the original owner, Mu Yue had no other real combat experience to speak of.
Mu Yue was diligently working to make up for these two shortcomings.
In terms of chakra, he was already striving to obtain chakra rewards. In the first month of the new semester, he had earned about 1,180 chakra points just by attending classes.
Regarding battle experience, Mu Yue's current idea was to create shadow clones and have them fight each other, with the memories of the battle flowing back to his main body to gain experience. Whether this method would be effective or not remained to be seen, but it was certainly better than doing nothing.
Apart from the shadow clone training method, Mu Yue had another idea that could not only increase his combat experience but also train his disciples.
However, it wasn't the right time to propose this idea yet. He needed to wait until he had achieved even better results and the war had progressed further before presenting it.
The next day, Mu Yue went to observe the practical exam of Class 1-1 to assess the overall combat performance of the students.
He planned to visit Might Guy and Obito's classes on the third day when the inter-grade battles would take place.
With the summer training enhancement rewards, Mu Yue now also paid close attention to the progress of Class 1-1's students.
"Director Hanyu," the two invigilating teachers greeted Mu Yue with smiles.
Mu Yue wasn't very familiar with these teachers; their relationship was that of colleagues who knew each other's names.
"Ms. Kikuta, Mr. Murashima," Mu Yue replied with a smile.
Originally, when Murashima saw Mu Yue approaching, he felt a bit intimidated, thinking that he would have to be extra cautious when grading the students. However, after a brief chat with Mu Yue, he relaxed.
Mu Yue, just like his reputation within the Ninja Academy, was gentle and friendly. Despite his higher position and ninja rank, he didn't put on any airs of superiority.
To be honest, when Mu Yue addressed him by name, Murashima was quite surprised. He only remembered speaking to Mu Yue once, and he didn't expect Mu Yue to remember him.
"Ah, our opponents are all first-year students. I feel a bit unmotivated," Hagane Kotetsu said with a sigh, his arms crossed.
"Yeah, it feels like we'll just be bullying kids during the match," Izumo Kamizuki agreed, nodding.
"You two are also first-year students, you know. If it weren't for the fact that I know you're not that great, I would've thought you were amazing during the special training," Hinata said, rolling her eyes.
Even the top C-group participant was calling them out; they were really something else.
"Not making it to the third round was just bad luck for us. Hinata, you don't understand. Now that we've been remembered by the Hokage, our path as ninjas is smooth sailing," Hagane argued.
"Your technique is useless. If it were me, I would've beaten you so badly that you'd be picking up your teeth from the floor," Hinata said, waving her fists. She was clearly issuing a physical challenge.
For a moment, Hagane and Izumo didn't dare to retort. They had to admit that Hinata was indeed quite strong physically.
"Number one, Uchiha Stop, and number two, Mitarashi, are ready for the exam," the invigilating teacher announced.
"Hahaha, looks like you won't get the chance to face us, Hinata," Izumo said, delighted. Although there was only one person Hinata couldn't beat in the first year, she happened to be facing that very person in the first round.
"Someone's going to be out before the second round even starts. I won't say who," Hagane said confidently.
"Ugh, you two better wait for me after your match!" Hinata said, frustrated that she had to face Uchiha so early.
Murashima and his colleague were invigilating a first-year class for the first time this year, and they were absolutely astounded by the battle between Hinata and Uchiha.
"Based on first-year standards, I can't deduct any points from them," Murashima admitted.
The two students' performance far exceeded what was expected of first-year students; it was more akin to a fourth-grade class battle or an inter-grade battle.
Although Hinata lost, Murashima still gave her a perfect score. It wasn't that Hinata wasn't strong enough, but her opponent was even stronger.
After the first round of battles in Class 1-1 ended, Murashima looked at the score sheet in his hand and questioned his life choices. He felt that if he submitted these scores, he would surely be called in for questioning. The average score was just too high.
Murashima glanced at the score sheet in the hands of the other teacher and felt relieved to see that it was similar to his. It seemed that the scores weren't unusually high because of his leniency but because Class 1-1 had genuinely performed well.
"In about half a month to a month, there should be an enhancement reward," Mu Yue thought to himself as he observed the performance of Class 1-1.
After watching the first round and going through all the student battles, Mu Yue left.
On the third day, Mu Yue arrived at the location of the inter-grade battles for the fourth-grade students.
