Chapter 132: Ganging Up for a Practical Joke
Chapter 132: Ganging Up for a Practical Joke
"You said you'd get me a new wand..." Ron looked at Fred and George, his eyes flickering between hope and worry. After the initial joy, he was now afraid that this might be another one of their pranks.
After all, Fred and George had a history of such antics, and similar incidents had occurred in their family more than once.
"Of course, my dear brother," Fred said, patting him on the shoulder. "Are you doubting your brothers?"
George beside him also put on a sorrowful expression.
"Ron, you've hurt our feelings."
"Sorry... I, I didn't mean it like that," Ron stammered, his heart suddenly tense. His face flushed, and he tried to explain, "I just... I mean, I'm not afraid. I trust you, really, I..."
"It's alright, Ron. Don't be nervous," Kyle said with a smile. "They're just joking this time. Don't worry, you'll get your new wand today. I promise."
Ron was indeed a bit too tense, though he usually wasn't like this... well, maybe not that different.
Compared to Fred and George, Kyle was undoubtedly the more trustworthy one in Ron's eyes.
"Thanks, Kyle," Ron said, his flushed face calming down a bit.
Although he was still nervous, it wasn't as exaggerated as before, and he looked much more normal.
But Fred and George weren't happy about this.
"Why are you thanking Kyle?"
"I knew it. You still don't believe us."
...
And Ron was tense again.
"No, no, thank you too," he added quickly.
Only then did Fred and George nod in satisfaction.
The four of them left the noisy Leaky Cauldron and headed for Diagon Alley.
As they reached the entrance, Kyle deliberately lingered at the back, casually stretching out his leg to kick a nearby trash can, intending to move it aside.
"Bang!"
Despite the dull sound, the trash can didn't budge.
"Hmm?"
Kyle turned his head and examined it for a moment before realizing that the bottom of the trash can had been stuck to the ground with a Fixation Charm.
No wonder he hadn't been able to kick it.
"It must be old Tom's doing..." Kyle's face turned grim.
This was too much. Last year, he had said he believed in him, and now he had secretly fixed the trash can to the ground behind his back.
Was trust between people so fragile?
The more Kyle thought about it, the angrier he became. Taking advantage of the others' inattention, he quickly drew his wand and pointed it at the trash can.
The trash can visibly grew taller.
However, the change was not significant, just about the thickness of a brick.
Kyle put away his wand and casually caught up with the Weasley brothers ahead.
George looked at him curiously. "What were you doing back there? You were so slow."
"Nothing," Kyle said casually. "I just dropped a Sickle and had to pick it up."
"Did you find it?"
"Yeah, I got it."
George nodded, not thinking much of it.
The group had a clear destination in mind and headed straight for Ollivanders.
Ron walked in front, with Kyle and the twins trailing slightly behind, whispering to each other.
"What do you think would happen if we suddenly left now?" Fred asked in a low voice.
"Little Ron would break down," George said, struggling to hold back his laughter. "And we'd get a good scolding from Mom."
"Also..." Kyle added, "the thirty galleons you just got would be gone."
"So, do you have a plan?"
As soon as Ron turned his head back, George asked in a low voice, "Little Ron might not be the brightest, but he wouldn't ask that kind of question without a reason."
Fred nodded in agreement. "Yeah, his mind is probably filled with thoughts of his new wand, so he wouldn't pay attention to whether Ollivander's shop is clean or not."
"If he doesn't ask, we can always remind him."
Kyle stroked his chin and whispered to the two of them.
After listening, Fred frowned and asked doubtfully, "Do you think that will work?"
"It should be fine..." Kyle shrugged. "If not, then forget about it. I'm just curious, it's not like I have to know for sure."
"Tsk, your curiosity is expensive." George pursed his lips. "Seven Galleons, huh?"
Kyle just smiled without saying a word.
Ollivander's shop was not far from the entrance of Diagon Alley; they basically turned a corner and arrived.
Looking at the small and shabby shop, Ron's eyes lit up with excitement.
However, just as he was about to step inside, Fred walked ahead of him.
Fred kept his head down, as if deep in thought.
"Watch out, Fred!" Ron warned with difficulty. "You're going the wrong way; that's not... the door."
"Bang!"
Before Ron could finish his sentence, Fred "heavily" bumped into the display window.
"Oh, damn it, why is this shop so dirty?"
Fred brushed the dust off his robe, looking annoyed. "I knew I shouldn't have worn this new robe today."
George stepped forward to help as well.
The two of them brushed for a while, but the robe still looked dirty, covered in a layer of gray dust.
"Fred, you're too careless!" George exclaimed dramatically. "Mom will definitely scold you when she sees this."
"There's nothing I can do; this place is too dusty. I feel like the dust here is hundreds of years old."
Kyle walked over and solemnly said, "But I think you can ask Ollivander for compensation. Remember my roommate, Mickel? He dirtied his new robe in a pet shop last year, and the clerk gave him an extra bag of pet food."
"It's a pity... we're not buying a wand."
Fred looked a bit regretful. "Otherwise, I would definitely ask Ollivander for compensation, and I would get an extra wand maintenance kit at the very least."
"Yeah, it's a shame." George shook his head. "The maintenance kit costs seven Sickles."
"There's no other way." Fred sighed. "Forget it, you take Little Ron inside first."
"Okay..."
George nodded and opened the door to Ollivander's shop, stepping inside.
"Little Ron, come on in."
Ron had seemed to be deep in thought about something, but upon hearing George's voice, he quickly ran over.
However, Kyle noticed that as he entered, he deliberately rubbed against the door frame.
"So, does he believe it?"
As soon as the two of them were gone, Fred asked eagerly.
"I think he believes it," Kyle said. He took out his wand and pointed it at Fred's robe.
"Scourgify!"
In an instant, the dust disappeared without a trace.
