Chapter 131: The Onslaught of the Player
Great威 Tianlong’s charge had already thrown the City Defense Force into chaos. The overwhelming presence of the colossal Earth drew all their fire, allowing Ogre and Great Goblin units—Dragonline Followers—to advance unimpeded into the city’s heart, preparing to transition into close-quarters urban warfare.
“Now it’s my turn to shine!”
“Watch me pull off the same trick!”
“For every Monk’s dream!”
Numerous MonkPlayers, eager to emulate Great威 Tianlong’s legendary maneuver, leapt across rooftops and charged forward with reckless bravado. Most of them met their end—pierced through like sieves by enemy blades.
After all, not everyone could be Great威 Tianlong. With their fragile, armorless Monk frames, they couldn’t survive more than a few hits.
But some Players had already begun carving out their own unconventional paths.
Take Charlotte, for example.
For the first time ever, his 【Magic Coin】 accepted a DruidPlayer—Holy Light Guy.
The two slipped silently to the top of the towering City Wall, surveying the dense mass of City Defense Force troops below. Their eyes locked, exchanging a sinister, shared grin.
“Holy Light Guy, shift into Owlbear form.”
“Got it.”
Naked and barefoot, the Druid lowered his body, his form pulsing with a radiant natural aura. With a thunderous rumble, he expanded—growing into a monstrous Owlbear, standing two meters tall at the shoulder and weighing several tons.
Charlotte smirked, raising his Inlaid Wood Wand.
The spell boosted the target’s size by one full tier. As shimmering arcane light flared around him, Holy Light Guy’s Owlbear form doubled in height and multiplied his weight to eight times its original mass.
Charlotte raised his Staff, pointing down at the dense formation of city guards—over a hundred strong—gathered below.
“Holy Light Guy, crush them! Smash them flat!”
“ROOOOAR!”
With a primal roar that shook the very air, the giant Owlbear charged forward.
At that moment, Baron Altar—the temporary commander on the western flank—was mid-speech, sword raised high, rallying his men.
Clad in ornate, heavy armor, his face set with unwavering resolve, he stood surrounded by his elite Trusted Guardsmen.
Altar had been raised from childhood within the Lakanman Family, a warrior of unmatched skill. Years ago, he had left for distant lands, seeking glory and experience. Now, with the nation teetering on the brink, he had journeyed thousands of miles from the south—returning to defend Northwind Keep, repaying the debt he owed to the family that raised him.
“Soldiers! It is time to give your lives!”
“For the honor of our family!”
“Die defending Northwind Keep! Stop these invading Monsters!”
Suddenly, the world before him darkened.
A shadow swallowed his vision.
He looked up—only to see the colossal silhouette of the Owlbear filling his entire field of view, growing larger with every passing second.
“What… is this—”
CRASH!
A deafening explosion split the air. Dust and debris erupted into the sky.
When the smoke cleared, a massive crater marred the ground.
Baron Altar and his twenty trusted elite guardsmen lay shattered—reduced to unrecognizable, pulpy remains.
And atop the pile of blood and gore, a naked, pale corpse lay still—its buttocks exposed, its body grotesquely enlarged.
That was Holy Light Guy—dead, having failed his Fall Death Check.
Though the transformation had ended, the 【Enlarge】 effect lingered. His corpse remained a towering three-meter giant.
Charlotte stared at the carnage below, nodding in satisfaction.
“Direct hit on the boss. You died gloriously, Holy Light Guy. Well done.”
He opened the Player Forum, messaging the still-reviving Holy Light Guy:
“How many Experience Points (XP), and how much Faction Contribution did you get?”
“3,900 XP, 4,000 Faction Contribution.”
“WHAT?!?” Charlotte’s eyes nearly popped out. Jealousy burned in his chest—he nearly wished it were him lying there, dead but rewarded.
As Guild Leader, Charlotte felt the familiar, conflicting emotions: the dread of seeing a brother suffer… yet the bitter envy of seeing him rewarded so handsomely.
“Keep grinding,” Charlotte growled, fists clenched.
Just then, a new notification flashed across his Character Sheet.
“Wait… is this—?”
Special Quest?
…
Though Player levels were still capped at four, their impact was already undeniable.
In System terms, most creatures in Ailezegai had no formal level. Even in military ranks, only the most seasoned soldiers were considered Level 1. A unit composed of Level 1 Professionals was already elite.
Now, with over a thousand Professional Players—many of them Spellcasters—this force was no longer just a novelty. It was a power that could shake the very foundations of the Anzeta Great Wasteland, or even the entire continent of Ailezegai.
And when the Public Test Version 【Northern Winds and Storms】 launched, drawing tens of thousands of Players into Ailezegai, their influence would spread across the world.
Back to the present.
With the Players’ arrival, Northwind Keep’s fall was inevitable.
The Followers of Ashen Hollow surged forward, crushing the last remnants of resistance, pressing relentlessly toward the Council Chamber.
But the Lakanman Family had not yet exhausted their secrets.
The elite “Eagle’s Shield” and the Court Spellcasters stood firm, inflicting heavy casualties and slowing the Dragonline advance.
Just as the battlefield grew more chaotic, a secret unit moved unseen through the city’s winding alleys.
In a hidden corner of Northwind Keep, in a narrow, shadowed alley, Singo checked his Quest Panel.
[Special Quest: Prohibit Ascension!]
Quest Description: In the dense forest, a withered tree weeps. Within the sinister Lakanman Castle, Duke Brad Lakanman plots an evil scheme—sacrificing the spiritual souls and flesh of 1,674 Vampire Offspring to achieve a mighty Ascension. When the Black Fog hides the Moonlight, and blood boils within his veins, Duke Brad will become the Immortal Vampire King! Once ascended, he shall walk under the sun and wield unimaginable evil power. Heroes, stop him!
[Faction Quest: Prevent the Ascension Ritual]
Affiliated Faction: Ashen Hollow
Quest Description: Join forces with Meizhuolashi and Alje to thwart this Ascension Rite. Kill Brad Lakanman. The Lord of the Ashen Flame shall bestow upon you strength and riches.
Singo’s voice trembled with excitement.
“Duke Brad Lakanman—the vampire lord of Northwind Keep. Only ever mentioned in lore. This boss is gonna be brutal.”
Xia Ye Qiu Yu nodded. “We need to be ready.”
Tian Sheng Zhan Kuang, meanwhile, rubbed his bald head with a carefree grin. “Who cares? Just swing the sword and go.”
Stuffed Bun’s dragon-like face twitched with tension.
“This quest description… it’s terrifying. Is this some horror dungeon? I—I’m actually kind of scared of ghosts.”
Singo shot him a dismissive glance.
“Pathetic. You wanna go back?”
“Even Qiu Yu isn’t scared. You’re just making a fuss.”
Stuffed Bun flushed red, arms crossed in defiance.
“Fine! I’ll go. Let’s see who’s scared at the end!”
Xia Ye Qiu Yu sighed, stepping in to mediate.
“Our strength alone won’t be enough to take down a boss like this. The quest says we need to coordinate with Meizhuolashi and Alje. Let’s follow the guidance and find their convergence point first.”
