Chapter 131: Ron's Wand
Chapter 131: Ron's Wand
As Chris and Diana were occupied with some sudden business at the Ministry, Kyle ended up having lunch at the Weasley residence.
Mrs. Weasley, who hadn't seen Kyle in over half a month, was delighted and piled his plate with seven or eight sausages, insisting he have three bowls of rice.
By the end of the meal, Kyle was so full he couldn't move.
"Want to come gnoming with us?" Fred enthusiastically invited after lunch.
"We're proper Quidditch Beaters now, we'll definitely beat you."
"Maybe next time." Kyle shook his head and pulled out a yellow envelope from his pocket. "I'm going to Diagon Alley later to buy some things for the new term."
"Oh, that's right, you haven't gotten your supplies yet!"
Mrs. Weasley, who had been busy in the kitchen, walked over and said, "Wait a moment, dear. We can accompany you to Diagon Alley."
"That's alright, Mrs. Weasley," Kyle smiled. "The things I need for second year aren't much different from last year. I just need some parchment and ink, I'll be back soon."
"But..." Mrs. Weasley hesitated.
"It's fine, Mum," Fred said. "We can go with him."
"Yeah, Mum, don't worry," George added.
"Alright then." Mrs. Weasley thought for a moment and didn't say anything else, but she glanced at the twins and instructed, "Hurry back after you're done shopping, and don't take Kyle to those messy places."
"We wouldn't go to those places," Fred replied.
"To be honest, even though you're our mother, you don't understand us at all," George added.
...
As the twins spoke with Mrs. Weasley, Kyle's attention turned to Ron, who was sitting by his side... and the wand he held in his hand.
He had seen this wand at Charlie's last term, and it was in poor condition, with the unicorn hair core even exposed.
Kyle suddenly remembered something and looked up. "Mrs. Weasley, you misunderstood Fred and George."
Upon hearing Kyle's words, the twins immediately nodded vigorously, and the thumbs-up gesture they made behind their backs didn't escape Kyle's notice.
However, Kyle pretended not to see their actions and continued, "The real reason they want to go to Diagon Alley with me is to buy a new wand for Ron."
"Huh? Er... what?"
Fred and George froze halfway through their nodding, turning to stare at Kyle in disbelief.
Ron, too, was equally incredulous.
Merlin, Fred and George... wanted to buy him a new wand?
Ron couldn't believe his ears, but then a wave of elation washed over him.
He really wanted a new wand. These past few days, he had even dreamed of choosing a wand at Ollivanders.
It was just that, even though their family now had money, Mrs. Weasley had refused his request to buy a new wand, insisting that the galleons belonged to the twins and that she was merely holding onto them.
He never thought...
Ron's eyes reddened, and he looked at his two older brothers with a grateful expression, as if he might burst into tears at any moment.
Fred and George, on the other hand, were still processing what they had just heard. Their expressions were somewhat dazed.
When did they say they wanted to buy a new wand for Ron? That would be a pure waste of galleons! He was only in his first year, and Charlie's old wand would suffice for now.
However, because they trusted Kyle, the twins hesitated for a moment before deciding not to refute his statement.
George took a deep breath and forced a dry smile. "We just didn't say anything because we thought you'd object."
"Dear, why would I object?" Mrs. Weasley's eyes welled up with tears as she stepped forward and hugged Fred and George tenderly.
"I'm glad you feel that way. George is right; I don't understand you boys well enough."
"I'm Fred, Mum." George's face reddened as he squirmed awkwardly. "You mistook us again."
"Sorry, Fred, dear." Mrs. Weasley released them and smiled. "Wait a moment, you two."
With that, she headed upstairs.
Seizing the opportunity, the twins turned to Kyle, their eyes filled with confusion.
Kyle remained calm and shook his head subtly, signaling them to be patient.
Soon, Mrs. Weasley returned with a bag in her hand.
"Here are your galleons."
She handed the bag to George, who was standing closest to her, and said, "I've always been worried that you boys might be too young and would spend this large sum of money recklessly. But now I see that you've truly grown up.
Take it; you won't be able to buy a wand without it."
George eagerly opened the bag, revealing around thirty gleaming galleons.
A hint of disappointment flashed in the twins' eyes.
They had expected all the galleons to be there, only to find a mere thirty.
Mrs. Weasley immediately guessed their thoughts and sternly said, "What? You think it's too little? Then forget about it."
She made a move to take the bag away.
George took a step back and shook his head vigorously. "Of course not, Mum. How could we ever think that?"
Apparently afraid that Mrs. Weasley might change her mind, George strode to the fireplace, clutching the bag in one hand and grabbing a handful of Floo powder with the other.
"We're running out of time. Let's go."
Without another word, he threw the Floo powder into the fireplace and stepped into the green flames without a backward glance.
"Diagon Alley!"
In the blink of an eye, George had disappeared.
Fred and Kyle quickly followed suit.
...
When Kyle opened his eyes again, he found himself in front of the fireplace at the Leaky Cauldron.
Fred and George stood on either side of him, their voices urgent.
"When did we ever say we wanted to buy Ron a wand!"
"We need an explanation, Kyle."
A wand cost seven galleons—that was enough for them to make a hundred Acid Pops!
"Don't get worked up. Aren't you curious? Why is Ollivanders so dirty..."
Kyle leaned in and whispered something into the twins' ears.
As they listened, their eyes gradually lit up with interest, though a hint of confusion remained.
Fred hesitated. "But a wand costs seven galleons... isn't that a bit wasteful?"
"Don't worry, I'll cover the cost." Kyle smiled. "Consider it a school enrollment gift for Ron..."
"Puff..."
Just then, a rotund figure tumbled out of the fireplace, covered in soot.
Ron paid no heed to the dust on his clothes and immediately stood up, looking around anxiously.
Only when he spotted Kyle and the twins nearby did he breathe a sigh of relief and hurry over with joyful steps.
