Chapter 131: Attack Plan
Chapter 131: Attack Plan
More than twenty minutes later, Liam saw another Falcon Helicopter approaching from the distance. At the same time, Knight emerged from the rooftop entrance, carrying the Beryllium Oscillator.
Seeing that the job was done, Liam used the BB Gun to call House to teleport them back.
After being teleported to House, Liam learned through the chat that they had completed the mission so quickly because Knight had cleverly used the Slow Fall Spell and Levitation Charm rune stones. He had used the Slow Fall Spell rune stone to jump directly to the ground floor, avoiding the security robots inside the building. After obtaining the item, he used the Levitation Charm to cling to the walls of the atrium and quickly returned to the rooftop.
Because of his skillful use of all available resources, Knight was considered the most powerful adventurer in the Wasteland. Liam felt he had learned a lot from this experience.
After placing the Beryllium Oscillator in House's reactor, House finally resolved the energy issues that had been plaguing it for a long time. Everyone then gathered to discuss their next move.
"I still think we should try to minimize casualties. Despite the Railway's various faults, they have been working hard to eliminate Raiders and Mutant bandits in the Wasteland, making significant sacrifices. This has objectively maintained order in the Wasteland. At the very least, they are no more evil than the previous House. I believe we should give them a chance", Knight said when Desdemona proposed sending someone to infiltrate the airship and destroy it, along with the entire Steel Brotherhood headquarters.
"How is that possible? This is a battle. I don't think showing mercy will earn their goodwill", Desdemona countered.
"No, that's not true. Actually, Knight has a point, and it's feasible", Liam said after listening to their argument.
"Right, you're a Wizard. You must have other ways", Knight said, somewhat excitedly.
"I do have a way to deal with the Steel Brotherhood with minimal casualties, but the condition is that someone can get me close enough to them."
Everyone fell into deep thought. Finally, Desdemona had an idea: "How much space do you need?"
"A five-meter cube would be enough", Liam replied. "But it has to be close to the Steel Brotherhood at the airport. My magic range is a 200-meter radius around me, so the location must cover all the areas where the Steel Brotherhood is stationed at the airport."
"Give me three days, and I'll find a way." With that, Desdemona had herself teleported to the Railway's headquarters to prepare.
During these three days, the Federation experienced an eerie calm. The Steel Brotherhood did not launch attacks in all directions but instead pulled back many of their patrol teams to their headquarters, adopting a defensive posture. This behavior even forced the Militia to take over several abandoned outposts to resist the monsters and bandits harassing nearby settlements.
The three days passed quickly. As Liam finished carving the last stone slab, which had been purified by Power Beans and taken from the Radiant Sea Core, Desdemona and Knight arrived at the Militia Fortress in Sanctuary Hills.
Upon seeing Liam, Desdemona said hurriedly, "We're ready. When can we start?"
"Tonight. Gather reliable people. If everything goes smoothly, we won't need to fight, so keeping it small and secret is key. We can retreat quickly if anything goes wrong." Liam waved his hand to store the carved stone slab in his Spatial Bag and then stood up to speak.
At eight o'clock that evening, the small team of over twenty people from the three parties gathered in the house's teleportation room and were collectively teleported to a street not far from the airport.
"The Mutant zombies around here have all been cleared out by the Steel Brotherhood, so we have a Safehouse here. I think Knight is right; regardless of their motives, the Steel Brotherhood has made contributions to the Federation. We should try to minimize casualties as much as possible", Desdemona said after they had walked for about ten minutes and arrived at their destination.
The so-called Safehouse was actually a pre-war residential home. It was very close to the airport, and from the third-floor window, one could clearly see the giant robots and the Steel Brotherhood's airships.
"This place is about two hundred meters from the airport. We spent three days digging a tunnel to the airport and built a basement at the tunnel's end as you requested. With the help of your rune stone, we ensured that this operation went undetected", Desdemona explained to Liam.
Indeed, digging tunnels was Railway's talent. Liam felt that even if he had enough magic power to dig purely with magic, he might not have been able to achieve the same perfection as Railway.
In the first-floor bathroom, Liam saw the entrance to the tunnel: a hole about the size of a manhole cover leading downward. There was an iron ladder leading to the bottom of the hole.
Climbing down the ladder, Liam found that the entire tunnel was quite narrow, only about 1.5 meters wide and a bit over 1.6 meters high. An adult would likely need to duck to walk through it. Fortunately, Liam was only twelve years old, so he felt quite comfortable in the cramped tunnel.
After walking through the dark and stuffy tunnel for about ten minutes, Liam finally arrived at the basement at the end of the tunnel. The basement was built according to his specifications and had a large number of metal and wooden supports on the walls and ceiling.
"This place is right under the old airport's terminal. We can't dig any further because the control tower and the robots are closely monitored by the Steel Brotherhood. We're worried that digging any further might get us discovered", a female Railway agent accompanying him explained.
"This place is much better than I expected. I'm pretty sure there won't be any issues", Liam said. He then began taking the carved stone slabs from his Spatial Bag and stacking them in order, eventually creating a two-layered, two-meter diameter, and thirty-centimeter high small Altar.
These stones were made from the purified Radiant Sea Core. Previously, Liam had used Food Vouchers to offer a reward for anyone who brought in something they hadn't seen before, hoping to find useful treasures. The only group to respond was a Mutant Militia squad that had gathered a large number of items from the Radiant Sea and delivered them to the Militia headquarters.
Liam discovered that some of the stones they brought were excellent magical materials, perfect for an Altar once the radiation was purified. It turned out that these stones came from the Nuclear Ground Zero.
This should be considered a specialty resource of the Radiation World. Liam, amused and exasperated, instructed the Mutant group to gather more of these stones. He then processed the stones he had, carving runes into them and filling the grooves with a gold-silver alloy before smoothing them out.
Now, these stones had become the components of Liam's portable Altar, allowing him to use ritual magic without the need to construct a temporary Altar each time. Moreover, the Altar's effectiveness was superior to a temporary one due to the quality of the materials.
With everything prepared, Liam instructed the Railway agent standing beside him and then took out a sleeping bag and lay down inside it. He needed to wait for the optimal time in the early hours of the morning to perform the magic.
