Chapter 1300: Reclaiming the Epithet of Sea Emperor
Chapter 1300: Reclaiming the Epithet of Sea Emperor
One day later, the Marine Warship Fleet arrived to escort the remaining Navy forces on the island back to Headquarters.
They had no choice but to retreat. There were no supplies left here. The entire island had been ravaged by combat, leaving nothing but devastation and rivers of molten lava.
The only silver lining was that the villagers remained largely unharmed.
Through the navigation systems of the high Capital Ship, Kuro could clearly see the villages that had remained relatively intact. These areas were untouched by the lava and earthquakes, protected by a perfect circular barrier surrounding them.
Kuro turned to Yi Xiao. "Was this your doing?"
"Well", Yi Xiao scratched the back of his head, "during the fight with Luffy's Crew, everyone still had some restraint. But once Blackbeard showed up, things got chaotic. There were just too many things to worry about."
Kuro said nothing more.
In many cases, the Navy was at a disadvantage during battles against pirates.
The Navy had too many concerns. On a populated island, most Marines would prioritize protecting civilians, but pirates had no such qualms.
Sakazuki didn’t care about civilians. His sole focus was eliminating wickedness. In his mind, eradicating evil was the only way to ensure peace. With peace, civilians would naturally be safe. As for the casualties in between, they were simply the cost—the growing pains.
As a ruthless leader, Sakazuki naturally held this mindset. In fact, he considered anyone obstructing his mission to eradicate pirates as part of the wicked themselves.
Yi Xiao was slightly better. During combat, he still showed some restraint. Perhaps that was why he hadn’t left a single pirate standing.
Kuro’s resentment toward Yi Xiao eased slightly at this thought.
"These people can’t stay here anymore. This island is dead. Send someone to evacuate them and help them relocate elsewhere", Kuro ordered.
Yi Xiao nodded. "That was my plan too."
The island was beyond saving. Even if protected, the people would still perish. The port had become a volcanic wasteland. With the natural harbor destroyed, no ships would stop here. Without trade, the island couldn’t sustain itself. If left alone, the civilians would die anyway.
This was something the Navy couldn’t stomach.
"Kuro Admiral."
A Navy Vice Admiral approached, lowering his voice. "The Five Elders want you to report to Mariejois after returning."
"Hmm?"
Kuro turned. He didn’t recognize this Vice Admiral. The man wasn’t renowned, nor had he risen through combat achievements. Clearly, he was a World Government loyalist.
"They’re summoning me now? Isn’t this an odd time? Sakazuki Fleet Admiral is still critically injured and unconscious", Kuro asked.
The Vice Admiral shook his head. "I don’t know the details."
"Fine. You’re dismissed. I’ll handle it", Kuro waved his hand, signaling the officer to leave.
"The World Government wants you?" Yi Xiao frowned. "Sakazuki’s still out cold. What could they want now?"
Kuro rolled his eyes. "Nothing good, I’m sure. When have they ever summoned someone for good news?"
"Admiral! Admiral!!"
Before the Vice Admiral had fully retreated, a Navy Commander burst in, clutching a newspaper. "It’s terrible! Something’s happened!"
"What’s the emergency?"
Kuro hadn’t finished speaking before his gaze locked onto the newspaper in the Commander’s hands. The Commander thrust it forward, revealing a bold headline:
Fleet Admiral Sakazuki Defeated BY Pirates!!!
"What?!"
Kuro snatched the paper, scanning the article beneath the headline:
"During the World Summit, at Haisong Port, the Great Pirate Luffy (Monkey D. Luffy) and Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach) defeated the current Fleet Admiral Akainu and Admiral Vegapunk. In this all-out war between the Navy and pirates, the pirates have proven their strength! Admiral Golden Lion once ended the Four Emperors Era, forcing pirates to abandon their self-proclaimed title of Sea Emperor. But now, with the Fleet Admiral’s defeat, pirates have reclaimed that epithet! There are now two 'Sea Emperors' ruling the Grand Line. As expected, this war will not end easily! The most chaotic era has arrived!"
The article was signed by the World Economic News Bureau, with Moer Gangs listed as the reporter.
The newspaper also featured several photos: wanted posters of Luffy and Marshall D. Teach, a stern portrait of Akainu, residual combat energy at Haisong Port, and a chilling image of Sakazuki being carried onto a stretcher.
"Who the hell took these photos?!"
Kuro crushed the paper in his fist. "Moer Gangs, that pigeon bastard, dares to publish this? Who gave him the nerve?!"
"What’s wrong?" Yi Xiao asked.
Though his Observation Haki was sharp, Yi Xiao was truly blind—literally.
"Sakazuki’s and your 'defeat' made the headlines. Strictly speaking, we didn’t even lose, did we? You’re still here, yet they lumped you into the defeat too."
Kuro inhaled deeply, gazing at the sky. "Moer Gangs dares to write this? The Old Man won’t believe it! And this timing is too convenient!"
His body lifted into the air, launching himself skyward with a shockwave that propelled him toward the heavens.
If they wanted him, he’d go straight to them and demand answers.
Who allowed this news to surface?!
Combined with these photos—battlefield images clearly taken by someone on-site. From the angles, it was obvious the Navy had taken them. Regular Navy wouldn’t do this. Even World Government-aligned Marines wouldn’t dare. The only ones reckless enough were the CP agents stationed here.
The Navy had CP agents too. They operated as regular Marines until summoned, revealing their true identities. The higher-ups knew but rarely intervened. But this was crossing a line!
Clutching the crumpled paper, Kuro accelerated like a meteor toward the Red Line.
Suddenly, he halted mid-air, activating his wristwatch.
"Kuro Mr.?"
"Klah, expand the search. Notify all Navy forces—find that pigeon Moer Gangs and execute him!" Kuro growled.
The Transponder Snail fell silent before responding firmly. "Understood, Kuro Mr.!"
Click!
As the call ended, Klah stared at the Transponder Snail, then the newspaper on his desk, adjusting his glasses.
Who allowed this news to be published?!
This wasn’t just about Kuro Mr.’s preferences. Even from the Navy’s perspective, Klah felt seething rage.
"What do they mean by ‘reclaiming the epithet of Sea Emperor’?"
Klah fed the newspaper into the paper shredder, gazing out the window toward the Grand Line. "Has the title become so worthless? A single newspaper article won’t let pirates reclaim it. You’ve gone too far, Moer Gangs."
