Lu HaiKong had never possessed the spirit of a true martial artist, and it was evident that Hu YinQi was not only disarmed by Dian Wei but also suffered a loss of combat effectiveness, with half his body going numb.
Under these circumstances, Lu HaiKong found it easier to fight, but this also presented a problem. Those with a sense of martial honor would typically feel a twinge of embarrassment in such a situation.
Only those with twisted morals, short-lived supporting characters, or antagonists in TV shows would dare to take advantage of someone in distress so blatantly. Even minor characters with some screen time would disdain such an act.
However, Lu HaiKong had no such psychological barriers. Firstly, he had been a nobody just a few months ago, so talking to him about the spirit of a martial artist would be like playing the flute to a cow. Secondly, in Lu HaiKong's eyes, Hu YinQi was merely a boss, and his only concern was the loot he might drop. As for a fair fight, please, Lu HaiKong was a bandit, and for them, justice meant ganging up on the weak and exploiting their strength.
So, Lu HaiKong charged forward with his axe once more, engaging Hu YinQi in combat again.
Hu YinQi was in a terrible state at this point. The blow from Dian Wei had been powerful, and now he was not only weaponless but also experiencing numbness in half his body, affecting his agility. Fortunately, he relied on his agility to fight, and despite the decline, he could still manage against Lu HaiKong's attacks. However, compared to before, his dodging was slightly more forced and desperate.
Lu HaiKong was naturally gifted, and his 10th-level Mountain-Breaking Axe Technique was even more formidable than before. Although his combo had been disrupted when he advanced to the 10th level, he quickly became familiar with the new level.
With one side's strength increasing and the other's diminishing, Lu HaiKong's combat seemed much more effortless than before. Now, he was clearly no longer in a life-or-death situation, so while his proficiency with the Mountain-Breaking Axe Technique was growing, it was at a much slower pace than before.
As Lu HaiKong and Hu YinQi fought, the middle-aged man realized something was amiss. Hu YinQi, who was already at a disadvantage in the fight, had his men unable to defeat Li Xiong and his companions. The situation seemed to be taking a turn for the worse.
The middle-aged man quickly instructed his men to retrieve those sent to intercept Hu YinLi's reinforcements and then turned to enter the tent.
In reality, this was no longer a tent; it had been mostly dismantled. Even the largest tent couldn't accommodate a hundred people fighting inside, so they had torn it down, leaving only the side facing Lu HaiKong intact.
Inside, Hu YinYuan and Hu YinYan's men stood in a daze. They couldn't comprehend how their boss had been killed, followed by the death of Hu YinLi, who had killed him. Now, Hu YinWen was outside with several Han Chinese, engaging Hu YinQi in battle.
These muscle-bound men, with limited intelligence, struggled to understand the series of events. They were even more clueless about what they should do next.
Should they avenge their boss? But Hu YinLi was clearly dead. Should they target Hu YinQi, the apparent mastermind? But their boss hadn't been killed by him, and it seemed the next leader would either be Hu YinQi or Hu YinWen. In this situation, they genuinely didn't know what to do.
The middle-aged man entered amidst this confusion.
Indeed, he was quite skilled. He was eloquent, spoke Xianbei fluently, and could quickly grasp the psychology of others.
In less than ten minutes, the middle-aged man had successfully convinced Hu YinYuan and Hu YinYan's men to temporarily join Hu YinQi's camp.
His success was due to two factors. Firstly, these men had families and needed to survive. With their original leader dead, they would have to submit to the new chief, whether they liked it or not.
Secondly, he played on the fact that Lu HaiKong and his group were Han Chinese. He blamed them for everything, convincing the Xianbei tribe that supporting Hu YinWen was both just and necessary.
With the promise of rewards, these confused men willingly followed the path laid out by the middle-aged man.
In the earlier fight between Hu YinLi, Hu YinYuan, and Hu YinYan, the true brutality had come from the three leaders themselves. The Xianbei tribesmen hadn't been as ruthless, and only a dozen or so of Hu YinLi's men had died, along with another dozen or so unlucky ones from the tribe. Over a hundred others remained.
These men, along with Hu YinQi's outside guards and those sent to block Hu YinLi, totaled nearly two hundred, all with a strength of 30 or above and the potential to become martial generals. Such a force should easily handle a small group.
But the middle-aged man couldn't help but smile strangely, thinking of Li Xiong, Lu HaiKong, and Dian Wei's formidable combat prowess and Dian Wei's imposing stature.
