Chapter 130: I'll Never Drink Too Much Again
Chapter 130: I'll Never Drink Too Much Again
"This is a feather headdress just like the one worn by President Robin Law of Cat House. Put it on, and you'll be the great chief of Fairy Tail!"
After securing the dangerous items, Rod opened his large trunk.
"Is this how it's worn?" Master Makarov eagerly put it on, trying to pull off a few stern expressions.
But a few seconds later, he couldn't help but burst into laughter, twisting and turning to show off his new gift to everyone.
"Ha-ha! What's that, Master?"
"Is this a comedy show?"
The small-statured Master, with the exaggerated headdress, now had a head almost as big as his body. Combined with his carefree movements, he quickly had the entire guild in stitches.
"Rod, do you have something for me?" Laki asked hopefully. "Does Cat House have anything special...?"
"Don't get your hopes up. I have a gift for you, but it's definitely not a torture device." Rod pulled out a wooden mask with sharp teeth and a demonic appearance, the most terrifying thing he could find in the entire village.
"Wow, the details are amazing." As a user of Wood Make magic, Laki immediately recognized the craftsmanship of the mask.
And while it wasn't a torture device, the demonic mask fit perfectly in her room, hanging on the wall without any sense of discord.
Rod continued to pull out items one by one. He gave Laxus an ancient set of paintbrushes; Rebi a parchment scroll with ancient Nibelitian script; Troy seeds from the unique plants near Cat House; Jet a pair of shoes worn by the Nibelitian hunters; and Erza a wooden breastplate, more decorative than practical, worn during celebrations.
He also prepared a necklace of beast teeth for Elfman, face paint for Nab, a bottle of wine for Cana, a bow and arrows for Alzack, and so on. For everyone he was close to, he had picked out suitable gifts. For those he didn't know as well, he had prepared small trinkets, bracelets, headscarves, and veils.
For Mira, he naturally picked out a beautiful outfit, complete with matching bracelets, anklets, earrings, and even a hair tie.
Unfortunately, it was a summer style, and it was now late autumn, so it wasn't quite the right time to wear it. So, Rod also prepared a shawl, which would be useful in the cooler weather and could be paired with the outfit if she really wanted to wear it.
Mira smiled and hugged the gifts, clearly delighted.
Laki, watching Rod distribute the gifts, was too tired to comment on any special treatment. She tried to convey her thoughts with a look.
"Don't look at me like that. I don't know anyone's clothing size." Rod said matter-of-factly.
But that just exposed more issues.
"Yes, yes, I know you often go shopping together and even know each other's clothing sizes."
Mira gently patted Laki, but she also realized that her relationship with Rod seemed to be getting a bit too close.
She wasn't sure what to do about the current situation. She had even mentioned taking Rod out to eat during the Harvest Festival...
While she was troubled, she couldn't help but feel a little excited.
Laki, having had enough of the gossip, noticed something strange in the trunk. "What are those pieces of wood?"
Rod explained, "Just ordinary wood, with flint. I'll give them to Natsu when he gets back."
Natsu wasn't at the guild; he had left a couple of days ago, eager to go on a job after overcoming the side effects of his latest adventure.
Laki was confused. "What are those for?"
"Is this fire considered to be brought from outside?" This was the best idea Rod could come up with.
Using the wood and flint from the Cat House, the fire he ignited should count as fire from the Cat House, right?
Hopefully, Natsu will love it.
"Is that fish bone a gift for Happy from outside?"
"That's a fish bone decoration, more like a piece of art," Rod thought that anything from Charle's guild would be something Happy would enjoy.
He had wanted to ask Charle to make something special for Happy, but she declined.
It wouldn't be right to give Happy something that Charle had given to him, so poor Happy would have to wait.
"To celebrate Rod and Gray's safe return, and to celebrate my praise from the Council, let's have a party!"
"Ooh, ooh, ooh!!!"
The Master's suggestion was immediately met with enthusiasm. Most of the guild members loved a good party, and everyone was in high spirits.
"Another party? I feel like we've been having parties all the time lately," Rod remarked, feeling the frequency of celebrations had increased.
"It's because we had the Magic Parade before we left, and then the welcome party at the Cat House after we returned. We've been partying nonstop," Gray explained, waving his hand and losing his shirt in the process as he seamlessly joined the crowd. "Anyway, cheers!"
Mira handed Rod a glass of wine. "Try to control yourself a bit this time."
Like he could control anything.
Once the atmosphere got going, it quickly turned into one toast after another.
The Master was in an especially good mood today, dragging Rod and Gray around to show off to everyone.
Even though everyone in the guild was like family, he still seemed to take pride in showing them off.
No matter what he said, his glass was always refilled.
The guild members laughed and joked, and as expected, the party lasted well into the night.
Rod ended up drunk again.
In his dazed state, he thought he saw Mira change into the clothes he had given her and ask him how they looked.
"Beautiful... really beautiful!"
He remembered saying that.
...
Sunlight streamed through the window, landing on Rod's face. He clutched his aching head and groaned, "Ah... I'll never drink that much again!"
"Hot milk or warm water? Which would you like?"
"I'll take both!" Rod focused on the person in front of him, realizing it wasn't just a delusion.
Mira had indeed changed into the Nyrubit-style attire he had gifted her. The top was slightly revealing, so she had draped a shawl over her shoulders, but her slender waist was still on full display.
A slightly ornate golden necklace replaced her usual crystal pendant, and her hair was braided in a style that complemented the outfit.
The sleeves were separate arm cuffs, but the shoulders and arms were partially covered by the shawl, giving her a more dignified appearance.
The hem of her skirt was slightly raised, revealing her guild emblem as she moved.
Her socks were designed to cover only her heels, serving as a base for her ankle bracelet, with her white ankles and restless toes peeking out.
"This is the first time I've worn this style of clothing. It feels a bit strange," Mira, the most popular model of the year, took a few uneasy steps.
Rod felt his hangover ease a bit. "You look beautiful. Even more so than the actual Nyrubit people."
"Really?" Mira spun around with a smile. "I guess it's about time to change."
"So soon?"
"Not at all. It feels weird to wear summer clothes in late autumn."
And everyone is starting to wake up.
