Chapter 13: Secrets Hidden in the Restricted Section
"Come, sit down, don't be so formal."
Hagrid placed a plate of Rock Cakes on the table and sat down first, the wooden chair creaking under his weight. Ivan and the others looked a bit worried, but the chair held up, stubbornly supporting the weight it shouldn't have to bear.
"Hagrid, this is Ron, and this is Hermione." After settling down, Harry pointed to the others and introduced them to Hagrid. However, before he could finish, Ivan stood up.
"Hello, Hagrid, I'm Ivan. Nice to meet you!"
"Oh, nice to meet you too." Hagrid extended his large hand to shake Ivan's, but the size difference made the gesture look a bit comical.
The big dog Fang circled around Ron, sometimes jumping up and covering his face with slobber.
Ron had already hidden Scabbers in his pocket the moment Fang approached. Although he had never heard of dogs eating rats, his recent experiences made him paranoid, as if someone was deliberately trying to harm his rat.
Next, Harry and Ron began to complain to Hagrid about Snape's biased treatment in class, which made Hermione frown, but she didn't contradict them.
Ivan didn't join their discussion. While Snape clearly disliked Harry and had a bias against Gryffindor students, he was still competent in teaching. Many of the potion recipes he taught were his own improvements.
Especially in the first Potions Class, when he unexpectedly gave Ivan an excellent grade, it made it hard for Ivan to say anything negative.
Of course, it would be better if Snape gave more questions during class.
"Gringotts Bank robbery?" Just as Ivan was about to try one of Hagrid's Rock Cakes, a newspaper by the teapot caught his attention.
Harry and Ron, who were chatting, stopped and leaned over to read the newspaper. It reported that on the night of July 31st, Gringotts suffered a major heist, and some believed it was the work of Dark Wizards or Dark Witches. However, the Goblins at Gringotts insisted that nothing was stolen.
"It happened on July 31st." Harry seemed to remember something and suddenly exclaimed, "Hagrid, I remember that was my birthday, and we were there!"
"Is that so?" Hagrid muttered, avoiding eye contact with Harry. He quickly changed the subject to the Rock Cakes, enthusiastically inviting everyone to eat more.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were all nearly chipped their teeth on the rock-hard Rock Cakes, but they couldn't bear to throw them away when they saw Hagrid's earnest expression.
Ivan secretly soaked a Rock Cake in his tea, hoping it would soften a bit, and managed to eat half of it.
The four of them walked back to the castle together, then parted ways at the stairs. Harry and Ron returned to their dormitory, while Ivan took the opportunity to search for the Room of Requirement in the castle.
In his previous experiments, Ivan found that no matter how much knowledge he had, without practical experience, his proficiency could stagnate.
The search continued until Tuesday morning of the second week, when Ivan finally found some traces on the eighth floor of the castle.
It was a wide corridor lined with many portraits, ending with a tapestry depicting a troll clubbing Barnabas the Barmy.
Ivan walked to the wall opposite the tapestry, focusing his mind on the practice room he needed. After pacing back and forth three times, a door appeared on the previously flat wall.
The door fit seamlessly into the wall, as if it had always been there.
Ivan pushed the door open with a mix of excitement. As he entered, the door closed automatically behind him. Inside was a massive training ground, brightly lit and spacious, with rows of dummies used for practicing Spells.
Ding, discovered the Room of Requirement
The voice in his mind was expected, but the exploration task's progress increasing by three percentage points was something Ivan hadn't anticipated.
After all, the Library of Inherited Knowledge only increased the progress by five points, indicating how important this place was.
"Diffindo!" After a brief warm-up, Ivan began practicing the Spells he had learned.
A white beam struck the dummy, causing one of its arms to explode into splinters, which filled the air. Ivan then used a repair charm to restore it.
For the next half hour, various colorful beams of light swept through the practice room.
Transfiguration Spell, Petrification Spell, Summoning Charm, Lumos
After nearly half a month of intense study, Ivan had learned all the basic Spells, even though they were only at Level 1, they were reliable and consistent.
However, during his first trial, Ivan quickly realized that his Spell accuracy was a bit worrying. Fixed targets were manageable, but moving targets were much more challenging, often requiring several attempts to hit once.
Ivan also tried using a Scholar Buff Card during practical practice and found that it was equally effective.
The enhanced brain function and analysis speed allowed Ivan to cast Spells more quickly and accurately, significantly improving his hit rate. He could even predict the movement of distant targets and the trajectory of the Spell beams.
This meant that despite having the same Spell levels, Ivan was much stronger while using the Buff Card.
"I've become both dumber and stronger."
Ivan couldn't help but sigh as he exited the Buff mode. Each time he used it, the decline in brain function made him feel suddenly less intelligent.
After practicing for the morning, Ivan's mind was already foggy, and his Magic Power was nearly depleted. Considering the Flying Lesson in the afternoon, he rested for a while before leaving the Room of Requirement. He found an unused secret passage on the eighth floor and planned to use it to return to the main hall of Hogwarts.
As Ivan stepped out of the secret passage, the long-lost System notification sounded again.
Ding, discovered unknown secret passage, exploration of [[Hogwarts progress now at forty percent.
