Chapter 13: Eight Inner Gates
Chapter 13: Eight Inner Gates
Before long, Feng Ye found Might Guy.
As he had anticipated, Might Guy, upon returning from his mission, had dinner with Maito Gai and then began training together. The two were running laps around Konoha.
Feng Ye thought for a moment, then started running in the opposite direction, also circling Konoha. After a while, he 'naturally' caught up with Might Guy and Maito Gai, running alongside them.
"You're training too, Guy," Feng Ye greeted Maito Gai.
Maito Gai saw Feng Ye and gave him a thumbs-up while running, saying, "Of course, a post-dinner fifty laps to adjust your state, that's what youth is all about..."
Might Guy almost mirrored Maito Gai's action, giving a thumbs-up and showing his gleaming white teeth, expressing his agreement with Maito Gai's statement.
This scene caused the crowds on both sides of the street to look on with strange expressions.
Feng Ye felt helpless.
Why do we have to be so eccentric...
Even he was being stared at, and he could faintly hear comments like 'someone is actually hanging out with that father and son pair,' which made Feng Ye feel weak and want to retort.
While running, Maito Gai asked Feng Ye, "Hey, hey, by the way, where's Kakashi? Aren't you guys training together?"
Maito Gai's attention was still more on Kakashi than on Feng Ye.
"He's probably off training by himself," Feng Ye replied. He knew that Kakashi wouldn't be taking on any missions in the next few days, but if he wasn't at home, he must have gone off to train somewhere. They rarely trained together.
Maito Gai gave Feng Ye another thumbs-up and grinned, "So, you're doing these basic exercises too? That's great!"
"The basics are important too," Feng Ye smiled, then said thoughtfully, "I've been practicing taijutsu a lot lately, and I feel like there's some kind of barrier within my body that I can break through. Have you felt anything like that?"
Maito Gai looked at Feng Ye with confusion, "A barrier? Do you mean the limit you reach when your stamina is exhausted?"
"No," Feng Ye glanced casually at Might Guy beside him and continued, "Not that kind of limit, but more like a shackle restraining the power of my body..."
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Maito Gai became even more perplexed. Just as he was about to ask a question, Might Guy beside him spoke up, his eyes widening with admiration as he looked at Feng Ye, "No wonder you're Kakashi's brother; you've already sensed the existence of the Eight Inner Gates at such a young age. This isn't something that can be achieved solely through hard work."
"Eight Inner Gates?" Feng Ye feigned confusion as he looked at Might Guy.
Might Guy had a straightforward personality and didn't seem to have any intention of hiding anything. He smiled and explained, "When you train your body to a certain extent, you'll feel the presence of shackles within. I call these shackles the Eight Inner Gates. Once you break through these gates, you can unleash extraordinary power."
Maito Gai was surprised to hear this from Might Guy; he had never heard of it before, and none of the ninja teachers at the academy had taught anything like this.
"Can Dad use this taijutsu too?"
"Of course!"
Might Guy gave a thumbs-up, "This is the only ultimate technique I've mastered after twenty years of hard work, and I plan to teach it to you once you've grown a bit more."
Feng Ye looked at Might Guy and asked, "Even though I can sense the shackles, if I try to break through them forcefully, won't I risk some kind of injury?"
"Yes," Might Guy nodded, his expression turning serious as he looked at Feng Ye, "To be honest, I don't recommend that you try to open your Eight Inner Gates at such a young age. However, since you can sense their existence, it means you've probably reached the threshold for cultivating the Eight Inner Gates..."
Might Guy didn't even consider keeping this a secret, or perhaps he had always intended to pass on the Eight Inner Gates technique. But as a genin, aside from his son Maito Gai, even if he wanted to find someone to teach, no one would pay any attention.
Feng Ye stopped running and bowed respectfully, a grateful smile on his face.
Seeing Feng Ye's sincere expression, Maito Gai laughed heartily and said, "Don't mention it. I'm just glad my experience could help you. After all, we're classmates of Guy's, and it's rare to have someone willing to listen to my insights as a genin... It makes me feel young again."
The first half of his sentence was normal, but the latter half quickly took a strange turn, leaving Feng Ye sighing inwardly.
Maito Guy, half confused and half understanding, looked at Maito Gai and asked, "Dad, what is the Eight Inner Gates? Can I learn it too?"
"Guy!"
Maito Gai's emotional state shifted, and he recovered from his teary-eyed sentimentality. He patted Guy on the shoulder and said, "Your training is not yet complete. Come on! Let's finish running the remaining fifty laps, and then I'll tell you about the Eight Inner Gates!"
As he spoke, Maito Gai urged Guy to continue running, and the two ran off together, their figures growing distant under the curious gazes of the nearby onlookers.
Feng Ye had intended to run alongside them for a while longer but shook his head helplessly at the sight.
Oh well.
"I've finally obtained the cultivation method for the Eight Inner Gates, and it's indeed as easy as I expected, but I feel a bit guilty... I'll find a way to repay him in the future."
After pondering for a while, Feng Ye returned home and, based on the insights shared by Maito Gai, as well as his own understanding of taijutsu, organized the cultivation method for the Eight Inner Gates.
The key to cultivating the Eight Inner Gates lay in breaking the eight inner shackles within the body.
Forcibly breaking through these shackles would undoubtedly cause damage to the body's meridians, so preparatory training and exercises were necessary to adapt the body to this process, and this was where load-bearing training came into play.
The preliminary training could be aided by tools such as weights, which would constantly exert pressure on the body. By removing this pressure, the body's adaptability to breaking the inner shackles would be enhanced.
The cultivation of the Eight Inner Gates involved repeatedly undergoing this process.
"So, I'll need to purchase some weights..."
Feng Ye searched through his collection of ninja tools and found some weights, but they weren't very heavy. They were suitable for regular training but not for the initial stages of cultivating the Eight Inner Gates.
Not having weights wasn't a significant issue, as the ninja village had no shortage of ninja tools. With the funds left by Sakumo, he could easily purchase a set of weighted training gear.
Soon enough...
After spending a considerable sum, Feng Ye acquired a set of weights.
Unlike the weights used by Rock Lee in the original story, the set he purchased was separated into different pieces, including a vest, wrist guards, and leg weights, forming a complete set.
"I wonder what these are made of. This weight doesn't seem scientifically possible."
After examining the weights, Feng Ye concluded that they fell into the 'unscientific' category, similar to the decapitated sword that grew by sucking blood or the Kusanagi Sword that could extend infinitely. They were likely manufactured using some sort of special means.
"So heavy..."
With the entire set equipped, he could feel a noticeable increase in his body weight, and even walking became slightly unstable. It took a while to gradually adapt to the added weight.
