Chapter 129: The Giant Blacksmith's Trivia
Chapter 129: The Giant Blacksmith's Trivia
Early the next morning, Naoki was preparing breakfast when a knock sounded at the door.
He answered it to find Mayor Thomas standing there, a worried expression on his face.
"Is there another town event coming up?" Naoki asked, somewhat surprised.
"No, not so soon," the mayor replied. "Many people in town saw lightning coming from the ranch last night, and I feared something might be wrong, so I came to check."
Lightning...
Naoki glanced down at Budew by his side and said, "That was my Pokemon practicing its Thunder move."
"Oh, I see," Mayor Thomas breathed a sigh of relief. "Well, if everything's alright, carry on then. I have other matters to attend to in town, so I won't disturb you further."
"Ba...mow," Budew murmured, finally realizing what the human's visit had been about.
Was he talking about me? it wondered. The lightning display last night certainly caused quite a stir.
"Don't worry, it's fine," Naoki reassured the Pokemon, then turned and headed back to the kitchen to bring the cooked breakfast to the table.
Today's meal was sandwiches and milk porridge. Although Golem, Aerodactyl, and Budew couldn't produce milk, the porridge was still beneficial for their physical growth and development.
The Pokemon gathered around the wooden table and began to eat.
Naoki glanced at the old-fashioned wall clock, planning his day in his mind.
In addition to restocking daily necessities and ingredients in town, he also needed to deal with the rampant weeds in the ranch.
Thanks to the existence of the Grass Dumplings, the Riding Goats rarely touched the wild grass growing on the ground.
The Miltanks only consumed the grass that had been specially cultivated in front of the Pokemon house.
"Perfect, the grass I cut can be used to make more Grass Dumplings for the Riding Goats," Naoki thought to himself.
As he mused, his eyes landed on the Pokemon in front of him, feasting on their food, and he happened to lock eyes with Budew.
"Eat up, I need to make a trip to town after this," he said.
Budew immediately sped up its eating.
Before long, breakfast was over, and the Pokemon in the ranch went about their day, some playing and others working.
Naoki, meanwhile, rode off on his Moto Lizard to the town.
With so many Pokemon, the ranch went through a large quantity of meat cuts every day.
If stored for too long, the meat's texture would deteriorate, so he had to make regular trips to town for fresh supplies.
In the supermarket, Naoki pushed a small cart down the aisles of shelves, with Moto the Gecko by his side, curiously eyeing the items on display.
"Hmm, we're out of laundry detergent, and I think we've used up all the vinegar. Better get a couple of extra bars of soap, too," Naoki muttered to himself as he placed the necessary items for the ranch into the cart. Finally, he made his way to the meat section and bought ten kilograms of meat cuts.
The price was 980 Pokedollars per kilogram, so the total for twenty kilograms came to 19,600 Pokedollars.
For most, it would seem like a substantial sum, but for the meat-loving trio of Goleton, Aerolong, and Motolizard, this amount of money would only sustain their ravenous appetites for a few days. (End of Chapter)
In other words, meat expenses alone would account for a significant portion of his monthly budget.
He was glad he hadn't acted on impulse and brought back all the Aerodrakes from Aerodrake Island to the ranch; otherwise, he would have gone broke feeding them all.
After paying, Naoki handed some of the items to Moto the lizard to carry.
Instead of returning to the ranch right away, they made a stop at a children's clothing store along the street.
There, Naoki found what he had been searching for—a brightly colored red child's cape.
Without hesitation, Naoki bought it and rode his Motolizard back to the ranch, where he found Budew managing the flock of chickens.
When he arrived at the chicken coop, Budew was floating excitedly in the air, watching the chickens feeding below.
Naoki waved at it from the fence, and Budew immediately flew over.
"Here, try this on and see if you like it," Naoki said as he tied the cloak around Budew's neck.
Budew looked at the vibrant red cloak behind it with curiosity. As a gentle breeze blew, the cloak fluttered dramatically.
"Want to give it a flight test?" Naoki asked.
"Ba...mow!"
Budew nodded its little head and then dove into the sky.
The cloak billowed behind it, making a rustling sound as the wind caught it. Budew looked incredibly cool, resembling those comic book superheroes fighting for justice and vanquishing evil.
It looked absolutely stunning! Budew was already adorable, and now with the addition of the cloak, its cuteness factor had skyrocketed.
Soon, Budew seemed to grasp the fun of it and eagerly flew back and forth in the air, clearly enjoying its new accessory.
After a while, it landed in front of Naoki, its voice filled with excitement, "Ba...mow!"
It was evident that Budew loved the gift.
Naoki smiled, gazing at Budew's delighted expression, and thought to himself, "Hmm, all it needs now is a tiny hammer. I guess it's time to catch a Giant Blacksmith."
The Giant Blacksmith, just like Miltank, was a unique Pokemon species with only female individuals and no males. They were known for their high intelligence, bold personalities, and diminutive stature, yet they wielded hammers that were disproportionately larger than their bodies.
It was said that these hammers were crafted from metal collected from Slash Commanders. To forge their massive and sturdy hammers, Giant Blacksmiths would actively attack groups of Slash Commanders to gather the necessary materials.
The Giant Blacksmith, with its incongruous appearance and strength, had become the bane of many Pokemon during their breeding season. Aside from the Slash Commanders, Steel Crowbirds also fell victim to their antics.
Rumor had it that Giant Blacksmiths particularly enjoyed using their hammers to knock rocks into the air and strike Steel Crowbirds in flight. They would then bring the incapacitated Steel Crowbirds back to their lairs and pluck the steel-like feathers from their bodies.
This was the very reason why Steel Crowbirds couldn't work as taxis in the Padia region. If they were attacked by Giant Blacksmiths mid-flight, it would pose a significant danger to their passengers.
"If I had a Giant Blacksmith, I could take it to the mines in Azeta Town to excavate minerals," Naoki mused.
The mineral-rich soil consumed by the Salt Stone Treasures was also sourced from Azeta Town.
With a Giant Blacksmith by his side, and perhaps a lucky pudding to boost their luck, rare stones like diamonds, gold, and agate would be within easy reach, making Da Wu turn green with envy!
However, there was one more thing Naoki wanted to share with Budew.
He recalled that in the game, Budew needed a specific number of steps rather than a level to evolve into its final form, Roselia.
In the game, Budew required 1000 steps to evolve into Roselia.
Although he wasn't sure if the same applied in reality, Naoki decided to inform Budew about its evolution condition.
"Ba...mow?" Budew's face lit up with determination.
It wanted to evolve into Roselia?
Now it knew what it had to do!
